Four cases against multi-crore fraudster transferred to CID for further probe
Agency: Mangaluru (Karnataka), Aug 15 (PTI) The Karnataka Director General & Inspector General of Police has ordered the transfer of four criminal cases registered against accused multi-crore fraudster Roshan Saldanha, to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for detailed investigation. The directive was issued on August 13. Two cases–Crime Nos. 22/2025 and 40/2025–were registered at the CEN police station under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The other two–Nos. 109/2025 and 115/2025– were registered at the Kankanady police station under separate sections. These cases are linked to a 'loan-and-land fraud" operation with estimated fraud amounts ranging from Rs 10 crore to over Rs 200 crore. Roshan Saldanha (43), a resident of Bollagudda, Bajal, was arrested in July following a police raid on his lavish mansion, which featured secret chambers and elaborate deception setups, allegedly designed to dupe businessmen. Authorities have frozen Rs 3.7 crore and uncovered victim networks extending to Maharashtra and Assam. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has concurrently conducted raids under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), seizing Rs 3.8 crore in assets and tracing Rs 5.8 crore spent on fishing boats purchased under the name of Saldanha's wife, Dafney Neethu D'Souza. 610 illegal fishing cases detected in Himachal during ban
Agency: Bilaspur (HP), Aug 15 (PTI) The Himachal Pradesh fisheries department detected 610 cases of illegal fishing this year, collecting Rs 5.59 lakh in fines, officials said Friday. Every year, from June 16 to August 15, fishing is completely prohibited in common waters as this period is the natural breeding season for many fish species. During the fishing ban this year, the government detected 168 more cases of illegal fishing and collected Rs 2.66 lakh in penalties, said Director of Fisheries, Vivek Chandel. 'More than 12,000 fishermen in the state earn their livelihood from reservoirs and common water bodies. At present, over 5,900 fishermen operate in the five major reservoirs — Gobindsagar, Pong, Chamera, Kol Dam and Ranjit Sagar — which together cover an area of around 43,785 hectares. 'In addition, over 6,000 fishermen are active in the state's common waters, which stretch approximately 2,400 km. Ensuring the sustainable availability of fish resources and supply of protein-rich aquatic food to people is one of the key responsibilities of the fisheries department," he said. The department deployed special measures to protect fish — 19 camps and one flying squad at Gobindsagar, three camps at Kol Dam, 17 camps and one flying squad at Pong Dam, and three camps with one flying squad in Chamba. Boy killed in cylinder blast; CM announces 5 lakh compensation
Bengaluru, Aug 15 (PTI) A 10-year-old boy died in a suspected cylinder blast here on Friday, police said. At least and nine persons were injured in the incident. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced after visiting the blast spot and hospitals that Rs 5 lakh compensation will be given to the family of the deceased. 'And the medical expenses of those injured will be borne by the government," he added. The victim was identified as Mubarak. The incident happened at Chinnayanpalya of Wilson Garden, Central Bengaluru, a tightly packed predominantly residential neighbourhood where houses abut each other. After visiting the site, Siddaramaiah told the reporters that prima facie, a cylinder blast was the cause for the incident. 'There is no smell, but according to police and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike reports, a cylinder blast might have taken place," he said. He further said nine people were injured, and that Mubarak was declared dead at the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital. Officials had earlier said 12 persons sustained injuries in the blast. The house where the blast occurred belongs to one Kasturamma, who is also admitted in hospital with burn injuries, added the CM. According to him, 13 houses have been damaged. 'I have instructed the BBMP Commissioner to get the houses repaired. If the house has collapsed completely, we will get them constructed," he added. Earlier, speaking to reporters, City Police Commissioner, Seemanth Kumar Singh said the house in which the blast occurred, was being rented by a three-member family. 'The man works as a labourer and had left for work early in the morning as usual. The mother and the child at home were injured. But the boy who died was in a neighbouring house," said Kumar. He said the police control room received the call around 8.30am. 'We immediately informed the Bomb Disposal Squad, Anti-Terrorism Squad, State Disaster Response Force, Fire Brigade as well as the local police," Singh added. 'We are clearing the houses that are damaged, investigation is on." It was too early to say what exactly caused the blast, said Kumar.
