Jimmy Thelin on what is next for Aberdeen after 'best moment of my life' Scottish Cup win

The Dons boss has taken inspiration from the historic victory at Hampden
Jimmy Thelin has admitted lifting the Scottish Cup win as Aberdeen manager was one of the best days of his life.
It is also a major inspiration for him and his players to build on that and try to bring further success to Pittodrie this season.

The Swede currently has his new-look squad in Portugal for their pre-season camp, as the Cup holders kick-off preparations for the 2025-26 season.

It is just over five weeks since the Dons beat Celtic at Hampden to lift their first trophy in 11 years. It was also Thelin's first major success in management.
He has seen what it has meant to everyone connected with the Dons and believes it will be a driver for his team to try to bring even more success going into this campaign, which will also offer European group stage football.
Thelin emotionally said: 'I think it was one of the best moments in my life. When you see all these happy faces, not only the players but staff and everybody around.
'The emotions, the chairman, Dave Cormack, Alan Burrows and Steven Gunn, all the people who are working around the club. 'Sharing this together was one of the best moments of my life.
'When you think about it, it is always there in a really good spirit. 'I also know we need to keep working and improving.
'Now we need to look ahead and prepare for a new season. That inspires everyone to try again.

'We know it will be really difficult but we need to try and believe to be the best we can be.'
Aberdeen go into the play-off round of the Europa League and regardless of the result will get European group stage football in that or the Conference League.

Thelin knows the key is to get the balance right because Aberdeen needs to be competitive on all fronts.
The last time the Dons reached the group stages, under Barry Robson, they struggled and that is something Thelin is keen to avoid a repeat of. He can also lean into his experiences with Elfsborg.
He said: 'Our away support is incredible. You see how many people come and support us and now we are going to add one more competition. We are going to need them more than ever.

'There are so many competitions to fight for and this extra they give is like a 12th player and is so important.
'I'm so excited for the games in Europe. It is about being as good as we can be so we can be that team that copes with all the competitions and still be competitive in the league every year.'
The good thing for Aberdeen is that they will get the chance to get a couple of league games under their belt before they step into the European arena.
They kick-off away to Hearts on the opening day. 'It is an exciting start,' Thelin told RedTV. 'It is coming quickly now. Everyday is coming closer.
'Right now we need to focus on the game. It is a good game to start with away. I can imagine some of our fans will be there and it will be a good game.'

Aberdeen 'feverishly working' on new recruits, says Cormack

Aberdeen are "feverishly working" through various recruitment processes to identify players who can "fit the key roles" in Jimmy Thelin's side, says chairman Dave Scottish Cup winners have added forwards Nicolas Milanovic and Kusini Yengi, defender Emmanuel Gyamfi and goalkeeper Nick Suman to their insists "patience" is required as the Dons remain "disciplined" in their pursuit of more incomings, but he expects "another three or four" to come in this summer."The important thing for us is to be disciplined in the decisions we make in bringing players in," the chairman said in a wide-ranging interview, external. "There's a lot of competition for the same players, particularly young players in Scotland. "We just need to be disciplined because with this player trading approach we have, we're making a decision to lose £3m or £4m operationally a year as a club."To do that, you need to balance out with, if we're going to spend that more on wages, which will help us - for example, on transfer fees - then the player training model is important for the club."At the forefront of that model is head of recruitment Nuno de Almeida, who worked with manager Thelin at Elfsborg."We've probably doubled our scouting [with the team in place]," added Cormack. "We've got full-time scouts in Scandinavia and in southern Europe working with Nuno and they are feverishly working through groups of players we believe can fit the key roles Jimmy's still looking to fill."It really is a case of trying to be patient and allowing these guys to get on with their work."

Viktor Gyokeres splits with girlfriend after making Arsenal transfer decision

Viktor Gyokeres has split from his girlfriend Ines Aguiar as the Sporting CP striker continues to push for a transfer to Arsenal this summer. The Sweden international began publicly dating the 26-year-old Portuguese actress last year and the pair were seen together during Sporting's title celebrations at Marques de Pombal in Lisbon at the end of May. Aguiar was also on the pitch with Gyokeres' family as Sporting celebrated their successive league title victory, while they also attended the Champions League final together at the Allianz Arena in Munich on May 31. But speculation over the status of their relationship began when Aguiar was not with Gyokeres at the wedding of Morten Hjulmand, the striker's teammate at Sporting, and Emilie Sofie Nissen, who she is friendly with. Gyokeres and Aguiar then went on separate holidays as the Sporting striker headed to Mykonos with his friends, while the Portuguese actress jetted off to Formentera. According to TV Guia, Gyokeres and Aguiar have now split as the striker remains determined to leave Sporting and Portugal before the end of the summer transfer window. 'Viktor doesn't want anything to link him to Portugal, especially because he has already decided that he won't continue at Sporting next season,' a source close to the player told the Portuguese outlet. 'Before going on holiday, he spoke to Ines, explained what he felt and she was also prepared in a way, despite it being something that was difficult for her because she really liked him. 'It was a way of protecting themselves, especially because they knew that one day the separation would happen.' The source added that Aguiar is 'devastated' but the pair maintain a friendly relationship. Gyokeres has been holding out for a move to Arsenal this summer and has already rejected an offer from Juventus, while he has also told Manchester United that his preference is to join Mikel Arteta's side. More Trending The 27-year-old, who finished last season with 54 goals in 52 appearances, has a €100 million (£85.1m) release clause in his contract but Sporting are willing to sell him for lower than that amount. However, Sporting's president, Frederico Varandas, has been angered by suggestions from Gyokeres' agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, that a private agreement had been reached to sell the striker for €60m (£51m) plus €10m (£8.5m) in add-ons. Sporting are understood to be holding out for a €80m (£68.6m) fee to sell the Swede this summer. Gyokeres is due to report back to Sporting for the start of pre-season training on July 7. Thomas Muller's reaction to Man Utd transfer speaks volumes - 'You mean now?'

Thomas Muller is set to leave Bayern Munich after the Club World Cup and has poured freezing cold water on any prospect of a free switch to Manchester United this summer Thomas Muller has said he was attracted to Manchester United 'many times' during his career but has laughed off any suggestion that he would be interested in a summer move. The German forward is set to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the Club World Cup and is on the lookout for a new club. And while he would be keen on trying his luck abroad, the veteran reckons it would be a poor fit for both himself and United were he to go to Old Trafford now. ‌ In an interview with CBS Sports, Muller was asked: 'Is there a European league for you that you kind of have a hankering to say 'I would like to have played in the Premier League' or…?" ‌ And he replied: "Yeah, I thought about it. There were some moments I thought, 'Ok, maybe it would be nice to experience it.' Muller was then asked "Do Manchester United look appealing to you?" The veteran replied: "Many times. Or do you mean now? No, no, no I'm not the right guy for them and they are not the right club for me. They want to have fun and I want to have fun so that's not a match.' Bayern have had an approach for Liverpool star Luis Diaz rejected and have now been linked with a deal for Marcus Rashford, who is open to playing abroad having been told there is no route back into Ruben Amorim's good books at United. Rashford, 27, flirted with a return to prolific form while on loan at Aston Villa but was injured before the campaign concluded and Unai Emery's side have chosen against activating a clause to make his switch permanent. United's first team squad reconvene for pre-season training on Monday July 7, leaving Amorim with a potentially awkward reunion with several players who are expected to leave by the end of the summer transfer window. That also includes Antony, the Brazilian winger who spent the second half of last season enjoying a successful loan at Real Betis. ‌ United have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves and remain keen on a deal for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, though the Bees asking price remains some way off United's current valuation, while talk of a move for Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres has slowed because his current side appear unwilling to budge on a £85m asking price. Amorim's side will officially kick off pre-season training next Monday, July 7, with their first friendly pencilled in against promoted rivals Leeds United in Stockholm on July 19. They then head to the United States for a training camp and three warm-up fixtures against West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton before hosting Fiorentina at Old Trafford a week before the Premier League season kicks off.
