Alabama transfer wins starting QB job for Michigan State football opponent Boston College

USA Today20 hours ago
Michigan State football will be welcoming in Boston College to East Lansing this season, a return game after the Spartans made the trip to Chestnut Hill a year ago. For the return game in East Lansing, where the Spartans will look to gain revenge against the Eagles, there will be a new signal caller.
Last year, the Spartans had to try and contain Thomas Castellanos, but after his departure to Florida State, head coach Bill O'Brien was tasked with naming a new starting quarterback.
The battle was shaking out between returning senior, and former FIU transfer, Grayson James and Alabama transfer Dylan Lonergan, who is a redshirt sophomore.
At the conclusion of the battle, with the team preparing for a game against Fordham, it was the Alabama transfer prevailing, earning the starting spot for Boston College.

Michigan State QB Aidan Chiles makes watch list for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm award

The Aidan Chiles hype train has officially left East Lansing and is sweeping across the nation. After a summer of buzz, Michigan State football starting quarterback Aidan Chiles has been named to the prestigious Johnny Unitas Golden Arm award watch list. The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm award is given to the top upperclassmen quarterback in college football. Chiles is heading into his junior season with the Spartans. Chiles showed plenty of talent last year to put him in contention for the award, showcasing elite arm ability with some smooth athleticism. Of course, last year, the big problem was making some errant, painful throws, particularly his 11 interceptions. That being said, by all accounts, Chiles has looked comfortable this offseason behind his newly reconstructed offensive line and new weapons like Omari Kelly on the perimeter. He is one of the top breakout candidates in college football this year. Steelers disrespected in ESPN power rankings, Mike Tomlin named under most pressure

Despite completely overhauling their roster this offseason with Pro Bowlers, First-Team All-Pros, Super Bowl champions, and MVP winners, the Pittsburgh Steelers are still being underestimated by ESPN. According to ESPN's latest power rankings, the Steelers are right in the middle of the pack — listed as the No. 16 team. ESPN's Brooke Pryor also selected HC Mike Tomlin as the person under the most pressure heading into 2025 — which can be read below: "For the second season in a row, Tomlin was the driving force in bringing in a veteran quarterback to lead the franchise," Pryor wrote. "This time, he courted Aaron Rodgers. Tomlin is putting his trust in Rodgers and the rest of his offense that they can expedite the gelling process and produce early in 2025. Realistically, Tomlin, under contract through the 2027 season, isn't going anywhere no matter the outcome of this season. But the fan base will undoubtedly grow restless if another season passes without a playoff win." Everything Pryor wrote about Tomlin is right on the money — but the Steelers' overall placement as the 16th-best team makes little sense. With Pro Bowl-level talent galore on the defensive side of the ball and a completely retooled offense, Pittsburgh deserves a top-10 placement at least.
