Majlis Mohamed bin Zayed explores future of finance in age of intelligence

Zawya07-03-2025

H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, attended the first of this year's Majlis Mohamed bin Zayed Ramadan sessions, titled "The Future of Finance in the Age of Intelligence".
The session, which took place at a dedicated lecture venue at Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, featured as its keynote speaker Jim Marous, owner of the Digital Banking Report and an industry futurist and authority on disruption in finance.
Mr Marous began by exploring how artificial intelligence is reshaping the banking sector, creating both opportunities and challenges such as the rapidly evolving expectations of consumers who want engagement, dialogue and empathy, not just 'a good experience'.
The financial expert explained how financial institutions need to inspire an elevated level of trust in consumers to transform the way they bank, but also warned that banks' back-office legacy systems must keep pace in order to support the transformation taking place.
Mr Marous praised the 'democratisation of data' and said consumers had come to expect personalisation. He noted that large-scale innovation is taking place at a speed and scale we have never seen before, driven by data, analytics and technology.
The industry strategist discussed how AI will transform not just the financial sector, but every component of our lives. He encouraged everyone to embrace generative AI and constantly ask it questions, because 'prompting skills are the tools of the future.'
The topic was then opened up to a panel discussion featuring Hana Al Rostamani, Group CEO of First Abu Dhabi Bank; Abdallah Al Mansoori, Managing Partner of I3H Investment; and Feras Jalbout, Founder and CEO of Baraka.
Discussing the biggest challenges in adapting to AI-driven finance, Hana Al Rostamani highlighted three key considerations for traditional banks: Embracing technology in order to process available data and deliver the best services to clients, upskilling exiting talent and onboarding suitable new joiners to ensure banks are future-ready, and working within a robust operating environment that encompasses security, privacy and regulation.
Abdallah Al Mansoori then spoke about the opportunities in the current regulatory and policy landscape regarding fostering financial inclusion and AI adoption in financial and capital markets. He commended a programme launched by the UAE Central Bank aimed at fully integrating nine complex pillars for digital infrastructure and the advancement of financial services throughout the country.
Feras Jalbout discussed how AI is shaping investment management. He explored how investor participation in capital markets can be a great tool for wealth creation, noting that AI can further that goal.
The Majlis Mohamed bin Zayed Ramadan session was moderated by Shatha Al Shamsi, Strategy Consultant, EY-Parthenon.
'The Future of Finance in the Age of Intelligence' will be broadcast on Saturday, 8th March at 5 pm on Abu Dhabi TV and the Majlis Mohamed bin Zayed YouTube channel (youtube.com/@MajlisMohamedbinZayed).

Mideast Stocks: Gulf bourses in green as oil prices rise

Most stock markets in the Gulf were trading higher early on Tuesday as oil prices ticked up on concerns about supply. Dubai's main share index, up 0.40%, was set for a second consecutive session of gains and Abu Dhabi's benchmark index was set to snap two consecutive sessions of losses. A lower than expected supply hike from OPEC+ is boosting oil prices, a catalyst for stock markets in the Gulf. Brent crude futures were up 0.19% to $64.75 a barrel by 0627 GMT. Adding to supply concerns was a wildfire in the province of Alberta in Canada that has led to a temporary shutdown of certain oil and gas production. According to Reuters calculations, the wildfires have disrupted close to 7% of Canada's oil production. Real estate financier Amlak Finance was the top gainer on the Dubai index, up 14.29%. First Abu Dhabi Bank, the United Arab Emirates' biggest lender, was up 1.15% in early trade. In Qatar, the benchmark stock index was up 0.61%, helped by a 2.15% rise in Qatar Gas Transport and a 1.86% gain in consumer goods conglomerate Industries Qatar . Bucking the trend, Saudi Arabia's benchmark stock index was trading flat in early trade. The 1.30% fall in Tadawul Group was offset by a 2.56% rise in insurance company Buruj Cooperative Insurance. Geopolitical tensions aided the oil price increase, with Iran poised to reject a U.S. proposal to end a decades-old nuclear dispute. Failure of nuclear talks between the countries could result in continued sanctions in Iran, limiting Iranian supply. Markets, however, remain cautious as U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping will probably speak this week, days after Trump accused Beijing of violating an agreement to roll back tariffs and trade restrictions. Nasdaq futures and S&P 500 futures were both down more than 0.3%. (Reporting by Rishab Shaju in Bengaluru; Editing by Mrigank Dhaniwala)

FAB Share Sale Draws Strong Demand Amid Strategic Expansion

Arabian Post Staff -Dubai First Abu Dhabi Bank , the largest lender in the United Arab Emirates by assets, is set to raise approximately $480 million through a secondary share offering. The transaction involves the sale of around 113 million shares at a fixed price of 15.5 dirhams per share, representing a 3.7% discount to the bank's closing price of 16.1 dirhams on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange. Citi, acting as the bookrunner, confirmed that the offering was fully subscribed, with demand surpassing the number of shares available. The identity of the selling shareholder remains undisclosed. FAB's largest stakeholder is Mubadala Investment Company, Abu Dhabi's sovereign wealth fund, which manages assets exceeding $330 billion. As of the end of March, FAB reported total assets of 1.31 trillion dirhams, underscoring its dominant position in the region's banking sector. ADVERTISEMENT The oversubscription of the share sale indicates robust investor confidence in FAB's financial health and strategic direction. The bank has been actively pursuing growth opportunities beyond the Gulf region. Two years ago, FAB explored a potential acquisition of London-listed Standard Chartered, signaling its ambition to expand its international footprint. Under the leadership of Group CEO Hana Al Rostamani since 2021, FAB has undergone significant restructuring to enhance operational efficiency and shareholder returns. The bank reorganized its operations into four new divisions and appointed Linos Lekkas, a veteran from Citi, as the head of its investment banking division. This strategic realignment aims to strengthen FAB's position in the Gulf and support its expansion plans. FAB's strong financial performance further bolsters investor sentiment. In the first quarter, the bank reported a 23% increase in net profit, driven by growth in non-interest income from fees and commissions. This performance exceeded analysts' expectations and reflects the bank's diversified revenue streams and effective cost management.
