New £90,000 Mercedes engulfed by waves after hapless driver gets STUCK on beauty spot beach

The Sun03-05-2025
A NEW £90,000 Mercedes was engulfed by waves after the hapless driver drove onto a beach for sunset and was caught by the tide.
The 25-plate black hire car was trapped for two days after driving too far onto Black Rocks Sands in Gwynedd, North Wales.

The shiny Mercedes-Benz coupe is the latest in a spate of vehicles to get caught by the tide on the beauty spot beach.
Several vehicles have succumbed to the sea already this year despite repeated warnings to steer clear.
The Merc was stuck and partially submerged for two days as its owners waited around for a low tide to try and retrieve it.
Only a fortnight earlier, an Audi met a similar fate at the opposite end of the beach near Porthmadog.
Whilst the strandings are a nightmare for the drivers, they at least provide some amusement and interest for beach regulars.
One revealed it is a common occurrence, saying: "I've lost count of how many cars have done this on Blackrock."
Someone else quipped on social media: "Oops. Try and explain that to the insurance company because it won't cover stupidity."
Another wrote: "What an absolute plonker."
A woman had more sympathy: "Omg I'd be devastated. Easy to make a mistake, I feel sorry for them."
And one more said: "It's the cars I feel sorry for."
Ford Recalls 148,000 Vehicles: Fire & Crash Risks Explained
Meanwhile, a van driver claimed last month that he had to fork out £43,000 after his vehicle was trapped in a posh car park for two years.
Furniture designer Mark Lucas, 48, left his Vauxhall Vivaro in an underground mechanical stacked car park on Rathbones Square in December 2022 as he worked at a nearby house.
However, later that evening he couldn't access his car because the stacker had "malfunctioned".
Mark said after speaking to the concierge he was told he could collect the van after the weekend, but alleges ongoing mechanical problems meant he couldn't get his van for two years.

The amount he eventually paid out - taking into account s fees, van depreciation and the hire of the temporary vehicle - was several thousand more than the £39,000 he paid for the vehicle just months before.
On January 31 2023, he was told in an email that the van was stuck and a new lifting platform would take 40 weeks to fit and repair, reports The Telegraph.
In the meantime, Mark hired a van for £800 a month.
Early last year he said he was informed repairs were unlikely until May and that any losses would be recovered by whoever had overall responsibility.
Mark told the newspaper: "Every time we thought we would get close to the date when we thought we could get the van back they pushed it back."

Moment Carlos Alcaraz left his humble dad fuming by buying him an Aston Martin for his birthday

CARLOS ALCARAZ has only ever been whitewashed once, but he will never forget it. The Spaniard was only 10 years-old when friend Antonio Lopez, two years his senior, blasted him 6-0 6-0 in a junior tournament. 3 3 Just nine years later, Alcaraz had rocketed to the top of world tennis by becoming the youngest ever No1. Lopez, according to author Mark Hodgkinson in his new book Being Carlos Alcaraz, had forgotten about some of his destruction that day. But he admitted: 'Carlos remembers that match very well.' Lopez, who is now a tennis coach and sometimes joins his old pal's backroom staff for tournaments, says his thrashing of the five-time Grand Slam champion should serve as inspiration for the champions of tomorrow. He said: 'I'm saying to the kids that with some effort and some help from their coach, they can reach the things they dream about.' Alcaraz 's stunning start to his tennis career has seen him become one of the most marketable young sports stars in the world - he is projected to rake in £31.5million, making him the highest earning active player. His current Nike deal is worth a whopping £150m over 10 years. Despite all his riches, Alcaraz still tells his parents about any expensive purchases - the Spaniard is a sneakerhead and has no problem paying thousands for some limited-edition trainers. But the one time he decided to surprise dad Carlos with a luxury Aston Martin car, it all went wrong. Long-time friend of the family Alfredo Sarria revealed: "Carlitos' father had always said – he had been saying this since he was young – that if he had money in the future, he was going to buy an Aston Martin. Carlos Alcaraz dumps Taylor Fritz out of Wimbledon semi-final to reach third final in a row as hat-trick dreams alive 'And then one day Carlitos arrived with an Aston Martin for his father. It was a surprise. But when his father saw the car, he asked Carlitos, 'When am I going to drive this car?'" His family wanted to keep a low-profile in their village so it stays parked up for most of the year. Sarria added: 'Carlos doesn't want Carlitos to be spending money on these kinds of things. Maybe they're going to sell the car soon because they're not going to use it.' Alcaraz, however, is already eyeing up another set of flashy wheels. Lopez said: ' He has said that he would like to buy a Lamborghini but not at the moment, maybe in the future. When he's older he will buy it.' ************************ CARLOS ALCARAZ has been making a huge noise in tennis - and kept his old school quiet in the process. The Spanish superstar will never forget his roots and in the tiny village of El Palmar, the teachers are forever grateful. Alcaraz had heard the classroom chairs would make a horrendous screech when dragged by pupils. So he donated almost 2,000 old balls which have been attached to the metal legs to spare the teacher's ears.

Mercedes-AMG's GT XX is a Direct Shot at BMW M's Electric Future

They share a platform and a reputation for dependability, but these two SUVs aren't clones of each other. What is the Mercedes-AMG Concept GT XX? The Mercedes-AMG Concept GT XX is a four-door electric grand tourer concept, serving as the bold preview of AMG's first standalone EV. Built on the all-new high-performance platform is not just a styling study—it's a fully running, road-legal prototype with production potential. Powertrain & performance The GT XX packs a tri-motor setup with two rear-mounted axial‑flux motors and one front-mounted booster motor. Axial-flux motors are compact, lightweight, and incredibly efficient, roughly the size of a medium pizza box. They can be stacked in series for even more output—hence the insane numbers. Mercedes claims the AMG GT XX can produce over 1,340 hp with a top speed of up to 233 mph. Battery-wise, it will reportedly use high‑performance oil‑cooled NCMA cells with optimized heating/cooling for sustained power. The automaker also claims ultra-rapid charging at up to 850 kW, adding ~250 mi (400 km WLTP) in 5 minutes. Exterior design: Sexy with purpose It's been too long since a Mercedes-AMG four-door has felt truly sexy rather than just aggressive. The GT XX brings sensuality back while maintaining function-first aerodynamics. Coming in at 17 feet in length, it claims a stunning aerodynamic figure of Cd 0.198, achieved through wheel blades, active aero vents, and functional hood fins. Other touches that help set it apart from any other Mercedes model include integrated headlight speakers for artificial AMG sound, electroluminescent rocker sills, and a rear LED 'Fluid Light Panel' that displays charge status or messages. Interior: Futuristic, yet realistic Inside, the GT XX balances next-gen materials with production-ready tech. It uses sustainable 'LABFIBER' biotech leather & silk alternatives made from silk proteins produced by genetically modified bacteria, which are entirely biodegradable and very light. The 3D‑printed seat shells are custom-fitted via body scanning to ensure maximum comfort for every driver, while the dual hi-res digital displays boast a stripped-down, driver-focused layout for no distractions and the ultimate driving experience. Everything feels buildable today, not some far-off concept. What will it drive like? While no one outside AMG has driven it yet, the tri-motor layout suggests torque vectoring for razor-sharp handling with near-instantaneous power delivery. By delivering true AMG-style dynamics despite being fully electric, it aims to be a grand tourer that can also destroy lap times, blending luxury and extreme performance. Will it be built? Given its road-legal status and production-ready tech, it's highly likely a version of the GT XX will launch by 2026. Expect elements like the active aero, lighting, and drivetrain tech to trickle into future AMG models even sooner. Mercedes-Benz has been losing ground to BMW in EV sales, especially in the U.S, so the GT XX signals a hard reset for AMG's EV strategy, showing they're ready to outdo BMW's M EVs while also pushing the Porsche Taycan and Audi RS e-tron GT and establishing AMG as the performance EV benchmark. This car is both a halo and a warning shot. Final thoughts The Mercedes-AMG Concept GT XX is a statement of intent. With over 1,300 hp, ultra-rapid charging, and stunningly functional design, it could redefine what an electric grand tourer can be. If Mercedes-AMG can deliver on this promise, it will be the EV that resets the performance luxury market. Expect to see more AMG concepts and production models inspired by this design soon.
