Aiden Markram helps South Africa beat Australia in World Test Championship final

It ends a series of agonising near misses for the five-time World Cup semi-finalists and 2024 T20 World Cup runners-up and marks the Proteas' first global trophy since 1998, when they won the Wills International Cup – the precursor to the Champions Trophy – and the Commonwealth Games.
Markram told 5 Live Sports Extra: 'It's been a very long time coming, got close in the past couple of years and not been able to get over the line.
'The first one was always going to be the toughest one, the group of guys have been playing some really good cricket but it never really feels worth it until you win something.
'Because of us getting over the line today, a lot of emotions are coming out of some of the boys and they're just really proud of what they've achieved.'
Bavuma had battled through a hamstring injury on Friday evening as he and Markram piled on the runs.
He lasted only three overs of the fourth morning before a tame edge off rival captain Pat Cummins was taken by wicketkeeper Alex Carey.
Tristan Stubbs dug in, contributing eight to a stand of 24 with Markram lasting nearly an hour before he was bowled by Mitchell Starc.

Bedingham settled South Africa's nerves in partnership with Markram as the pair put on 35 in 10 patient overs.
Markram's brilliant innings finally came to an end when he whipped Josh Hazlewood into the leg side but was superbly taken low to his right by Travis Head.
The fielder's lack of celebration suggested that the game was up and – though there was a final moment of drama when Verreynne gloved Starc through to Carey but was given not out, with Australia's reviews spent – the winning run came two balls later.
South Africa's past failures at the business end of major tournaments, some of them farcical in nature, have seen the team labelled 'chokers' and Bavuma was happy to lay the ghost to rest.

He told 5 Live Sports Extra: 'While I was batting I heard some of the Aussies use that word, the 'choke' word.
'You see the elation of past greats, guys like Graeme Smith and AB de Villiers, they had that opportunity and with the greats they had, they weren't able to do something like this.
'So we know what we just did is not only for us, it's also for them. We've been etched in history, we're part of something that's never been done.
'It's special in a lot of ways. For South Africa, there's an opportunity for us to be united. We've got a cause in front of us where we can put aside our differences and live in this joyful moment as a nation.'

Speaking after making Romero skipper, Frank revealed: "I would say I've worked with him now closely for more than five weeks, I've seen a very, very committed player who's trained very well. The staff have said to me they've never seen him train that well. He's in a very good place. I see a player that will want to lead the team and push the team." The new boss was keen for the two-time Copa America winner to remain for the long haul and develop further as a leader under his tutelage. "I think when you name a captain it's because you think he's the best that can help the team no matter what now and also in the future," he explained. "It's not really linked with the contract situation. Of course he's a very good player so I want him to stay longer. "I see a very big and very good player. What I like about him and why I have chosen him as captain is his leadership qualities on the pitch, there is a big respect for him from the players. Off the pitch as well he also sets the standards, but it's fair to say, he's 27 and there are a few older than 27. "When I was 27 of course I thought I could do everything but I also found out that as a leader I am 1,000 per cent better now so he also needs to learn and become better and better so I will do my best to guide him." Romero felt immense pride after being given the armband by the Dane, revealing in a rare English interview for the club: "I'm very happy to be the first team captain of the club. It's amazing for me. Today, we [he and Frank] spoke before training. Maybe before the start of the season I've spoken a lot with him. He's a good coach and I said, 'thank you' for this, also. "It's a big responsibility. I spoke with the players and tomorrow is also another big night for the club, for the players, for the fans, we need to enjoy this moment." On social media, he posted after that announcement: "Today begins a new season for us, one that is truly special to me. Becoming the first [team] captain of this beautiful club is an incredible honour. "I arrived here four years ago with a single dream: to write my name into the club's history and leave my mark by winning a trophy, and I achieved that. Now, a new journey is in front of us. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney can leave ‘legacy' in Wales' World Cup plan
The UK is the sole bidder to host an expanded 48-team tournament in 2035 – and the Football Association of Wales has targeted two venues among the 16 stadiums planned. The FAW wants one in the south of the country – probably Cardiff City Stadium rather than Welsh rugby's Principality Stadium home – and one in the north, Wrexham's redeveloped SToK Cae Ras home. Wrexham's Hollywood owners Reynolds and McElhenney are seeking to expand the Red Dragons' stadium, with a proposed 7,750-seater Kop stand taking capacity to around 18,000. The pair – who were at the Cae Ras on Saturday to watch newly-promoted Wrexham play their first home game in the Championship – said in May 2024 that development on all four sides of the ground could lead to 'between 45,000 and 55,000 people in there'. 'The Kop development is a significant first step and the vision for the stadium is incredible,' FAW chief executive Mooney told the PA news agency. 'What Ryan and Rob are doing is amazing. They are looking to look to invest in the stadium and build up the Cae Ras, which is the oldest international ground in the world, and there is a potential North Star for them. 'The city and the club have a chance to bring a World Cup to North Wales. What a story that would be. What a legacy for Ryan and Rob to leave Wrexham.' The FAW and Wrexham held talks over the Women's World Cup last week and Wales will host the 2026 European Under-19 Championship next summer. All games will be played in the north at Bangor, Colwyn Bay, Deeside, Denbigh, Deeside and Wrexham, with the Cae Ras hosting the final. 'It's our 150th anniversary next year, we were founded in Wrexham, and the story is very powerful for us,' added Mooney, who said the FAW will launch a 10-year strategy for Welsh football in 2026. 'The impact of Ryan and Rob has been manna from heaven for us, the timing of it. 'We've been very fortunate over the last few years to get to a men's World Cup, first women's Euro, and have our young teams starting to qualify for major championships. 'That has coincided with Ryan and Rob coming in. Wrexham has already started collecting a lot of our national team players, and will produce lots of players for us in the future with their investment in youth development and Academy. 'There is a symbiotic relationship there where we can create a lot of value for each other. 'People all over the world are talking about Wrexham and that inspires partners like FIFA, commercial bodies and Governments to get involved.' The UK's formal bid for the 2035 Women's World Cup will be submitted in November and likely to be approved by FIFA next year, with all four home nations automatically qualifying for the tournament.
