'The Summer I Turned Pretty' season three premiered Wednesday, July 16, 2025, with the first two episodes dropping on Prime Video at 12 a.m. PT / 3 a.m. ET, followed by new episodes every Wednesday through Sept. 17. From the sun-soaked piers of Wrightsville Beach to the pastel storefronts of Carolina Beach Boardwalk, and even a surprise trip overseas, this guide breaks down where the show was filmed, when to visit, how to get there and what else to explore nearby, whether you're planning your next summer getaway or just want to relive your favorite moments in real life.
Where Did They Film The Boardwalk Scene In 'The Summer I Turned Pretty'?
The boardwalk scene in 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' (season two, episode four) features Belly, Conrad and Jeremiah enjoying a fun, nostalgic night of arcade games and go-kart racing, offering a lighthearted break from the season's emotional tension. According to People, it was filmed across two locations in North Carolina: Carolina Beach Boardwalk was used for the exterior scenes, showcasing the oceanfront, carnival games and bright neon lights that create a classic summer vibe.
Meanwhile, the indoor arcade and go-kart scenes were shot at Jungle Rapids Family Fun Park in Wilmington, a large amusement center with arcades, laser tag and water rides. Together, these spots brought the show's signature summer atmosphere to life.
Where Are They Filming Season Three?
Once again, production is centered in Wilmington, the 'Hollywood East' that's been home to seasons one and two. This includes Beach settings like Carolina Beach, Kure Beach and Wrightsville Beach, alongside downtown Wilmington locales like the Cotton Exchange, Beer Barrio and Arrive Hotel, per the Outlook Traveller.
In a surprising shift, some season three scenes were shot in Paris, marking Belly's European journey (modeled after the book's Spain storyline). According to Teen Vogue, Lola Tung was seen filming on location in Paris alongside co-star Gavin Casalegno, hinting at a significant storyline abroad. While neither Lola nor Gavin has provided public quotes about filming in France, Vanity Fair interviews suggest that Belly's study abroad segment is emotionally significant – it's part of the story's broader themes of healing, love and personal evolution.

Key Scenes: Several of the show's most memorable moments were filmed here, including the 'Entering Cousins Beach' sign, Belly and Conrad's kiss on the pier and the playful boardwalk arcade night with Jeremiah.
Best Time to Visit: The best time to visit is late spring through early fall (May to September), when the weather is warm, beach towns are lively and many local events and attractions are in full swing.
Transportation Options: Fly into Wilmington International Airport (ILM), just 15-30 minutes from most filming locations. Renting a car is highly recommended for easy access to beaches, downtown Wilmington and nearby spots like Fort Fisher and Southport.
For lead actress Lola Tung (who portrays Belly) the process of filming in Wilmington helped the cast forge deep bonds. As Glamour reports, 'We got used to being in Wilmington, we got used to being together and were able to form this bond that was similar to the bond with your childhood friends and that we needed to have for the show.'
Lindsay Fort, the show's location manager, added perspective on the logistical challenges that came with filming popular scenes – especially at the boardwalk. 'It was so crazy… We did have to implement having set security on season two because everybody is super excited to be a part of it. We didn't want it leaked either because it's such an iconic scene that we were excited for everybody to see
The area's beaches offer gorgeous white sand, Atlantic waves and coastal charm reminiscent of Cape Cod. Planning a visit is ideal for fans looking to relive the show's coastal charm and create their own summer memories. Wrightsville's pier and Carolina Beach Boardwalk offer ideal scenic backdrops.

Where to Eat: For casual bites, head to The Fat Pelican near Carolina Beach, a local favorite and cast hangout known for its massive walk-in cooler and beachy vibe. Downtown Wilmington offers trendier options like Seabird, a seafood-forward spot with coastal elegance, or Beer Barrio for tacos and local brews, both located close to shooting locations.
Where to Stay: Stay close to the filming action at Arrive Wilmington, a boutique hotel in a restored 1940s building, rumored to have hosted cast and crew during production. American Eagle's 'good jeans' ads with Sydney Sweeney spark a debate on race and beauty standards

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. fashion retailer American Eagle Outfitters wanted to make a splash with its new advertising campaign starring 27-year-old actor Sydney Sweeney. The ad blitz included 'clever, even provocative language' and was 'definitely going to push buttons,' the company's chief marketing officer told trade media outlets. It has. The question now is whether some of the public reaction the fall denim campaign produced is what American Eagle intended. Titled 'Sydney Sweeney has great jeans,' the campaign sparked a debate about race, Western beauty standards, and the backlash to 'woke' American politics and culture. Most of the negative reception focused on videos that used the word 'genes' instead of 'jeans' when discussing the blonde-haired, blue-eyed actor known for the HBO series 'Euphoria' and 'White Lotus.' Some critics saw the wordplay as a nod, either unintentional or deliberate, to eugenics, a discredited theory that held humanity could be improved through selective breeding for certain traits. Marcus Collins, an assistant professor of marketing at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business, said the criticism for the American Eagle ad could have been avoided if the ads showed models of various races making the 'genes' pun. 'You can either say this was ignorance, or this was laziness, or say that this is intentional,' Collins said. 'Either one of the three aren't good.' Other commenters accused detractors of reading too much into the campaign's message. 'I love how the leftist meltdown over the Sydney Sweeney ad has only resulted in a beautiful white blonde girl with blue eyes getting 1000x the exposure for her 'good genes,'" former Fox News host Megyn Kelly wrote Tuesday on X. American Eagle didn't respond to requests for comment from The Associated Press. The discussion continued after eagle-eyed social media users noticed that Dunkin's promotion for its new summer drink features 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' co-star Gavin Casalengo attributing his suntan to genetics. A snapshot of American Eagle The ad blitz comes as the teen retailer, like many merchants, wrestles with sluggish consumer spending and higher costs from tariffs. American Eagle reported that total sales were down 5% for its February-April quarter compared to a year earlier. A day after Sweeney was announced as the company's latest celebrity collaborator, American Eagle's stock closed more than 4% up. Shares were volatile this week and trading nearly 2% down Wednesday. Like many trendy clothing brands, American Eagle has to differentiate itself from other mid-priced chains with a famous face or by saying something edgy, according to Alan Adamson, co-founder of marketing consultancy Metaforce. Adamson said the Sweeney campaign shares a lineage with Calvin Klein jeans ads from 1980 that featured a 15-year-old Brooke Shields saying, 'You want to know what comes in between me and my Calvins? Nothing.' Some TV networks declined to air the spots because of its suggestive double entendre and Shields' age. 'It's the same playbook: a very hot model saying provocative things shot in an interesting way,' Adamson said. Billboards, Instagram and Snapchat The campaign features videos of Sweeney wearing slouchy jeans in various settings. She will appear on 3-D billboards in Times Square and elsewhere, speaking to users on Snapchat and Instagram, and in an AI-enabled try-on feature. American Eagle also plans to launch a limited edition Sydney jean to raise awareness of domestic violence, with sales proceeds going to a nonprofit crisis counseling service. In a news release, the company noted 'Sweeney's girl next door charm and main character energy – paired with her ability to not take herself too seriously – is the hallmark of this bold, playful campaign.' Jeans, genes and their many meanings In one video, Sweeney walks toward an American Eagle billboard of her and the tagline 'Sydney Sweeney has great genes.' She crosses out 'genes' and replaces it with 'jeans.' But what critics found the most troubling was a teaser video in which Sweeney says, 'Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color. My jeans are blue.' The video appeared on American Eagle's Facebook page and other social media channels but is not part of the ad campaign. While remarking that someone has good genes is sometimes used as a compliment, the phrase also has sinister connotations. Eugenics gained popularity in early 20th century America, and Nazi Germany embraced it to carry out Adolf Hitler's plan for an Aryan master race. Civil rights activists have noted signs of eugenics regaining a foothold through the far right's promotion of the 'great replacement theory,' a racist ideology that alleges a conspiracy to diminish the influence of white people. Shalini Shankar, a cultural and linguistic anthropologist at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, said she had problems with American Eagle's 'genes' versus 'jeans' because it exacerbates a limited concept of beauty. 'American Eagle, I guess, wants to rebrand itself for a particular kind of white privileged American,' Shankar said. As for Dunkin's social media video, Casalengo's burnished skin comes up in the context of the doughnut chain's Golden Hour Refresher drink. 'This tan? Genetics. I just got my color analysis back and guess what? Golden summer," the actor says, referring to the revived trend of wearing clothing that align with one's natural coloring. A Dunkin' spokesperson could not be immediately reached for comment. A cultural shift in advertising Many critics compared the American Eagle ad to a misstep by Pepsi in 2017, when it released a TV ad that showed model Kendall Jenner offer a can of soda to a police officer while ostensibly stepping away from a photo shoot to join a crowd of protesters. Viewers mocked the spot for appearing to trivialize protests of police killings of Black people. Pepsi apologized and pulled the ad. The demonstrations that followed the 2020 killing of George Floyd by a white police officer in Minneapolis pushed many U.S. companies to make their advertising better reflect consumers of all races. Some marketers say they've observed another shift since President Donald Trump returned to office and moved to abolish all federal DEI programs and policies. Jazmin Burrell, founder of brand consulting agency Lizzie Della Creative Strategies, said she's noticed while shopping with her cousin more ads and signs that prominently feature white models. 'I can see us going back to a world where diversity is not really the standard expectation in advertising,' Burrell said. American Eagle's past and future American Eagle has been praised for diverse marketing in the past, including creating a denim hijab in 2017 and offering its Aerie lingerie brand in a wide range of sizes. A year ago, the company released a limited edition denim collection with tennis star Coco Gauff. Marketing experts offer mixed opinions on whether the attention surrounding 'good jeans' will be good for business. 'They were probably thinking that this is going to be their moment," Myles Worthington, the founder and CEO of marketing and creative agency WORTHI. 'But this is doing the opposite and deeply distorting their brand.' Other experts say the buzz is good even if it's not uniformly positive.

Lola Tung Defends ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty' Engagement Ring

In case you haven't heard, Belly and Jeremiah are officially engaged, but if you took a casual look at her left hand, you wouldn't know it. Belly's engagement ring on The Summer I Turned Pretty is subtle, to put it mildly. Fans immediately began criticizing it when it made its debut in 'Last Supper,' episode 3 of the third season. And now, TSITP star Lola Tung is defending Belly's engagement ring. In a new interview with Pedestrian TV, the actor called all the backlash 'very funny' but also, 'a little much.' She continued to defend the jewelry, saying that she loved the ring and calling it appropriate for Team Jellyfish and 'very them,' especially given their current finances. Noting that Jeremiah is now $20,000 in debt to his dad because he forgot to take some core classes needed to graduate, Lola called the ring 'practical' and 'beautiful.' She added, 'It's not about material things, you know?' She also responded to the criticisms in a separate interview with PopSugar Australia, defending her character's fiancé. 'Jeremiah was trying to be a little smart buying a ring that wasn't crazy expensive and putting his father further in debt,' she said. 'He knows Belly very well and he knows her style, and it's a very practical ring and very beautiful and simple.' These are all rational points, considering Jeremiah and Belly are two college students with no real income to speak of. However, Jeremiah is not a rational character. He is a 21-year-old frat boy who didn't read the fine print on his major requirements, costing himself and his dad $20,000. He's a man who cheated on his girlfriend of three years—'break' be damned—and then in a desperate attempt to make up for it, proposed in a hospital parking lot. I'm supposed to believe that he wouldn't voluntarily go into credit card debt to pay for a bigger engagement ring? This is one piece of propaganda I will not be falling for!

Fans Are Loving Belly's Wedding Dress from The Summer I Turned Pretty—Here's Where to Get It

Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy. While fans of The Summer I Turned Pretty are all worked up about Jeremiah versus Conrad and whether they will or won't, I've got my eyes on the prize—Belly's stunning ivory slip gown, that is. In this week's episode, Belly goes wedding dress shopping with her best friend, Taylor, and Taylor's mom. Viewers were treated to a glimpse of what's said to be her final choice: a simple, floor-length cami-style gown by Victoria Beckham. Miraculously, the exact dress hasn't sold out yet. Belly joins the ranks of Kim Kardashian and, naturally, Victoria Beckham—both of whom have also donned the same dress. The minimalist cut, complete with an open back, is very reminiscent of the '90s. (Now that I think about it, Belly would have been born after 2000, right? Does she even know who Posh Spice is?) Whatever, back to the dress. A miniature train adds to the bridal flair. The exact style is available in ivory, lilac, light blue, and dusty grey, and sizes 4-16. But if you're looking for more budget-friendly lookalikes, I've got those too. If you're unfamiliar with the viral Prime Video show based on Jenny Han's book series (which I read in middle school!), it stars Lola Tung as Belly. Gavin Casalegno and Chris Briney play brothers Jeremiah and Conrad, respectively—Belly's dueling love interests. The love triangle gets messy, as they tend to do, and drama ensues. But again, back to the dress—because that's what we're really here for. Shop the exact style from the show online, and below, find similar options—including a Rick Owens number that's on sale.
