Victoria police use ‘less lethal round' during weapons arrest, IIO called in
Police in Victoria used a 'less lethal round' when responding to a weapons call in the city's downtown Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 3:50 p.m. at the intersection of Douglas Street and Pandora Avenue, according to a social media post from the Victoria Police Department.
Police said the suspect was taken into custody and the investigation is ongoing. They did not provide any additional details about the suspect, such as the person's gender, what kind of weapon they allegedly possessed or whether they would be held in custody while awaiting charges.
CTV News has reached out to the department for more information and will update this story if a response is received.
The Independent Investigations Office of B.C., which looks into police use of force in the province, confirmed in an email that it had been notified of the incident.
The office said it would be issuing a media release about the case, but could not provide any additional information before the release is published.
The IIO investigates all police incidents that result in death or serious harm to a member of the public, regardless of whether there's any allegation of wrongdoing on the part of police.

CTV News spoke to multiple witnesses who wished not to be identified, who were outside near the busy intersection after the altercation. They said they witnessed paramedics working hard with compressions to revive the victim. 'Our commitment is to a safe community. We continue to ensure that the citizens of London are safe, and we do our best to investigate these and hold those accountable,' said Ordronneau. Not many more details could be provided, as the investigation continues. However, Ordronneau did confirm that the weapon used was a knife. There are no other outstanding suspects at this time.
