Mikel Arteta Gets Shoved By Spurs' Pedro Porro During Throw-In Chaos: WATCH
In the 59th minute of a pre-season friendly on July 31, the Hotspur defender pushed the Arsenal manager back into his designated area after he crossed the mark.
A controversial incident during the North London derby match between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, July 31, saw Pedro Porro push opposition manager Mikel Arteta back into the playing arena.
Even though it was a friendly encounter in Hong Kong, the game wasn't short of intense scenes, as Porro nudged Arteta back into his technical area after the Arsenal head coach left his designated position.
The incident took place in the 59th minute of Spurs' 1-0 victory over Arteta's men. While taking a throw-in, Porro spotted an animated Arteta moving his hands and directing Arsenal players without realising he had crossed the mark.
Just then, the Hotspur right-back went up to him and pushed him away amid a roar from the packed crowd before the referee intervened.
Even though Porro's aggressive push seemed not alright against an Arsenal manager, who had merely mistaken his position, Spurs fans defended their star and crucified Arteta all over social media.
Arteta's team finished their Asian trip, featuring matches against Newcastle United, AC Milan and Spurs this week. They'll now round off the pre-season by facing Villarreal and Athletic Bilbao and open their Premier League campaign against Manchester United on August 17.
Despite Arsenal's defeat against Spurs, Arteta was quite confident ahead of the start of the new season.
'I'm very positive, everything that I've seen in the last 10 days gives me a lot of encouragement and we're ahead of what I was expecting in many areas," he said at the post-match press conference.
'Even though tonight's result gives you a taste, I think that is going to be very positive as well. To realise the margins that winning or not winning have to be controlled as well, and again, we go again. We'll start on Monday again with two great games at the Emirates to finalise the preparation and be ready for Old Trafford."

'He's Seen Like A Dad': Curtis Jones Reveals Special Bond With Former Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp
Last Updated: Jones shares a special bond with former Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp, seeing him as a father figure. Klopp's 2024 departure left Jones conflicted but proud of his achievements. Curtis Jones' journey from Liverpool's academy to the first team has been one of persistence, growth, and trust—a journey intertwined with the presence and influence of Jürgen Klopp. The relationship between the young Scouser and the charismatic German manager is a story of mutual respect, shared values, and long-term vision: one that runs deeper than tactics or team sheets. In a squad packed with world-class midfielders—Thiago, Fabinho, Henderson, and Wijnaldum among others—Jones had to adapt. Klopp began moulding him into a more disciplined, two-way midfielder. But more importantly, Jones has spoken often of how Klopp backed him when others doubted him, how the manager's honesty and warmth made it easy for him to grow without fear. So, when Klopp announced his exit from Liverpool in the summer of 2024, Jones was left perplexed and conflicted, to say the least. Speaking exclusively to JioHotstar, Curtis Jones said, 'Yeah, emotions were actually mixed…But yet, I feel that there comes a time in life where family and your kids—and for Jürgen and his staff, of course, they've got their grandkids as well—that there's more to life." 'For Jürgen, who's obviously been in the game for so many years—one, of course, he's played in, and two, he's been at Dortmund and the stuff he did there—and then he came in here when the team wasn't as great, and he changed the whole thing, he flipped it over. And then he leaves here as the man that he is now, and how much he's loved of us—as you know, the players—and then from the fans as well, and the city, of how he's seen," he added. 'He's seen like a dad." But, Jones is of the belief that Klopp had no regrets whilst departing from Anfield, for he had achieved 'everything he wanted to.' 'I feel that he had achieved everything that he wanted to." You know, he came in here, and his first thing was, 'I want to build a team that is ready to go and compete every single week,' and that's what he's done. And then he made the team that's, 'Okay, we compete every week, but now we have to go and win.' And that's what we started to go and do. 'He came in, he changed the team, he started to win, he then achieved things, and then he helped the youth as well. You know, you can't ask for any more." From Kirkdale to Premier League Success With Liverpool: The Curtis Jones' Story
Last Updated: Curtis Jones, a boyhood Red from Kirkdale, joined Liverpool's academy at nine and debuted in 2019. His key role in 2024-25 helped Liverpool win the Premier League title. Curtis Jones' rise from the streets of Kirkdale to lifting the Premier League trophy with Liverpool is a story rooted in talent, resilience, and local pride. A boyhood Red, Jones joined Liverpool's academy at the age of nine and quickly gained attention for his flair, creativity, and confidence on the ball. His journey was never about shortcuts—it was about steady progress and seizing the right moments. Speaking exclusively to JioHotstar, ' I feel like that goes down as one of the most special things that I felt there, off of the fans. It goes back to feeling the love and appreciation of the fans." 'That's something that, you know, that I've always said: if I can stay here and play and be a huge part of this team, and a huge part of this club, and the foundation of the club, and to have young kids who come and point at me and be the one, 'I want to be like him,' that's what I want to try and do. Jones made his senior debut in January 2019 during an FA Cup tie against Wolves. But it was his stunning winning goal against Everton in the FA Cup a year later that truly announced his arrival. The 2024–25 season marked a turning point. Amid injuries and a transitional period for the club, Jones stepped up with consistent performances, showcasing composure, vision, and leadership. His contribution proved vital as Liverpool mounted a relentless campaign and clinched the Premier League title for the second time under Klopp. Lifting the trophy as a homegrown player was a full-circle moment for Jones. 'I mean, it's everything. As a kid, it doesn't matter which team you are at, it's always your dream. But to do it here, and I'm a Scouse lad, and I've come all the way through, and I'm standing here now, and this is where it was all happening," he stated. 'Now I'm around in the first team, and I'm playing games, and I'm a champion of the Premier League. I've won it twice and… so yeah. I'm standing here, I'm made up, I'm happy, but I want to achieve even more. So I'm enjoying it now, but I'm thinking again about the next step." Watch the full-length interview of Jones, streaming live on JioHotstar, August 8th at 8 PM, and catch all the action from the Premier League 2025-26 season, August 16 onwards, LIVE & Exclusive on Star Sports Network and JioHotstar. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
