Kelantan Police Nab Couple, Seize RM3.1 Million Worth Of Drugs
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the suspects, aged 31 and 49, were detained around 4 pm while travelling in a Proton X70 along Jalan Padang Sembilan, Kuala Krai, after their vehicle was seen being driven suspiciously.
He said that a subsequent inspection of the vehicle led to the discovery of 110 plastic packages, containing dried plant material believed to be ganja buds, weighing 60.8 kilogrammes, compressed ganja weighing 6.95 kilogrammes, and 150 yaba pills.
'The total drug haul in Kuala Krai alone amounted to 67.75 kilogrammes of ganja and 15 grams of yaba pills, with an estimated value of RM2.37 million,' he said, during a special press conference at the Kelantan contingent police headquarters, here, today.
Following the arrest, police raided the couple's home in Selising, Pasir Puteh, on the same day, and seized an additional 22 kilogrammes of compressed ganja worth RM775,000.
Cash, necklaces, and other jewellery were also seized during the raids at both locations, bringing the total value of the confiscated items to RM3.1 million.
Mohd Yusoff said initial investigations found that the female suspect operates a processed chicken business, while her husband works as a p-hailing driver. The couple is believed to have been actively involved in drug trafficking for over a year, using their legitimate businesses as a front.
'We believe that this syndicate has an extensive network and serves as a major supplier, including to overseas markets, as the value of the seized cannabis buds is significantly higher than that of regular cannabis leaves,' he added.
The male suspect tested positive for drugs, while the female tested negative. Both, however, have prior records related to narcotics offences, and they have been remanded for seven days, from July 11, to assist in investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,' he said.

Teacher charged with sex assaults on pupil
SEREMBAN: A 53-year-old teacher has pleaded not guilty to three counts of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old pupil at a school in Kuala Pilah. The accused claimed trial after the charges were read before Sessions Court judge Mohamad Kamil Nizam yesterday. 'Titanic' flood disrupts Old Bailey courtrooms in London
LONDON: The Central Criminal Court in London, commonly known as the Old Bailey, was likened to a scene from the "Titanic" movie as floodwater was heard cascading and dripping down walls, reported PA Media/dpa. Six courtrooms were affected by the floods on Thursday, causing ongoing trials to be disrupted and moved to other areas of the historic building. One witness said: "It was like the 'Titanic' – you could hear the water lapping in the corridor." Judges at the Grade II listed Central Criminal Court hear some of the most serious and complex cases in England and Wales, including murder and terrorism trials. With foundations dating back to the Roman era, the building is constructed atop the underground River Fleet, a tributary of the Thames. The Old Bailey, which houses 18 courtrooms, has been affected by floods in the past, as well as plumbing issues dubbed "the Great Stink". Last February, around 1,500 people were evacuated from the Old Bailey and surrounding offices after a fire broke out in an electrical substation at the rear of the building. Elderly man feared to have fallen from bridge into Sungai Muar
TANGKAK: A 62-year-old man is feared to have fallen into Sungai Muar from a bridge along Jalan Panchor-Grisek near here this morning. Tangkak police chief Supt Roslan Mohd Talib said the police received a report of the incident at 8.54am from the victim's son after he was unable to contact his father. He said the man had left their home in Kampung Parit Tunggul, Kundang Ulu alone around 6am, wearing a short-sleeved checkered shirt and a blue kain pelikat. "The victim drove off in a grey Mazda CX-5, which a member of the public later found," Roslan said in a statement. He said a call to the victim's mobile phone was answered by the individual who found the vehicle, raising suspicion that the man had fallen into the river. A search and rescue operation was launched shortly after the report was lodged, involving the police, Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force and local villagers. "As of 9pm, the victim has not been located. "The case is investigated as a missing person. "The public is advised against speculating on the incident," he added. – Bernama
