Anjelica Huston breaks silence after she 'managed to survive' private cancer battle
Anjelica Huston opened up about her private cancer battle after years of being "in the clear."
The 73-year-old actress revealed she's been "in the clear" for four years. Huston chose not to share the type of cancer she battled.
"I'm at the four-year mark, and that means so much to me," "The Grifters" star told People magazine. "It's a fantastic thing. I'm very proud of myself, and I've been very lucky. My doctors have been wonderful."
Huston was first diagnosed with cancer in 2019. The actress had just completed "John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum."
"That was a very serious moment for me," she told the outlet. "I managed to survive it, and I'm proud of myself."
"It's not something that came lightly," Huston added. "It came as a big shock, but it made me conscious of what I shouldn't do, of places I shouldn't go. One of those places was taking life too seriously. So now, when the opportunity arises, I laugh, and I try not to make a big deal out of things."
While keeping the details of her cancer battle private, Huston hoped to inspire others by sharing parts of the story.
"Sometimes you feel like you don't want to talk about it for the obvious reasons, but there's a lot to be said for talking about it and getting it out there and celebrating the fact that one's come through," "The Witches" star said.
"Life is tenuous and wonderful. It also gives you the idea that the world is big, and you can somehow match up to it. That you're ready for whatever happens."
Huston was no stranger to Hollywood when she chose to pursue her acting career. The daughter of director John Huston and granddaughter of actor Walter Huston, she began acting in the 1980s.
She became the third generation of her family to win an Academy Award when the actress' performance in "Prizzi's Honor" landed her the Oscar for best supporting actress. The film was directed by her father.
Huston is known for roles in "Crimes and Misdemeanors," "The Addams Family," "The Royal Tenenbaums" and "Smash."

The actress previously revealed on Instagram that she was 'hit in five places,' including below her eye. Romano shared details for the first time about what transpired. 'It's a birdshot that got sprayed in my direction by another party, and essentially it was within 200 feet, which means really fast and hot,' she told hosts Neen Williams and Frankland Lee. 'They weren't malicious,' Romano clarified. 'It wasn't aggravated assault. It's what happened.' The 'Kim Possible' alum recalled that, out of habit, she gave Rooney a thumbs-up immediately after she was shot. 'He was like, 'Oh, you're good.' And I was like, 'No I'm hit.' He goes, 'Oh s—,'' Romano recalled of her husband's reaction. 'He was immediately into action mode, evaluating me and ran to get the car. 'I felt this huge rush that I'd never felt before where I was starting to get really woozy. I think it was shock.' Romano told the hosts she didn't experience any pain initially and described the thoughts that were running through her head, including her fears her children might be affected. The actress shares daughters Isabella, 7, and Sofia, 5, with Rooney. 'I was covered in blood from my forehead … and I said three things. I was like, 'Am I gonna die? Who's gonna take care of the girls? Is my career over?'' she recalled. Romano explained that she came close to being blinded or killed. 'If my head would've been tilted in any other direction, I would have been blind in my right eye. Or if I had turned my head, I could have gotten hit in a softer side of my skull, and I would have potentially been dead,' Romano said. 'It's still in my eye,' she said of the pellets from the shotgun. 'I have a fragment still in my forehead, and I have a fragment still behind my eye, which is 1 millimeter away from blinding me.' During her podcast interview, Romano told hosts she put on a brave face at first and was making jokes about her medical crisis after she arrived at the hospital. 'In retrospect, I was trying to be funny and not cry because I wanted the people around me to feel more calm so that they could take better care of me,' Romano said. The former Broadway star admitted that it has been difficult to accept she is a 'gunshot survivor.' Clay pigeon shooting is an outdoor sport in which upside-down circular disks made of limestone and pitch used as targets are propelled into the air by machines called traps. Shooters use shotguns, with each shot projecting hundreds of small lead balls to hit the clay pigeons. The sport is typically not considered dangerous as long as safety measures are follow.

‘Ballerina' Has Higher Audience Scores Than Every ‘John Wick' Movie
Ballerina It feels at least somewhat understandable to be skeptical of a John Wick spin-off movie, one that's a prequel and allows him to make a guest appearance while also being a significant part of the marketing. But Ballerina stands on its own legs, no pun intended, and at least by one metric, could be the best film in the whole series. Ballerina has a bit of an inverse curve going on. It is technically the worst-reviewed movie by critics in the John Wick franchise, albeit with a still solid 74%. But surprisingly, at present, Ballerina has a 94% audience score, which is well above some of the past movies and even inches past John Wick 4. Here's the breakdown. Ballerina The film stars Ana de Armas as a killer who is beginning her assassin training, and the events of the movie take place during Parabellum, meaning John Wick is alive to guest star (albeit not for long). The series also appears to be bringing Wick back to life for a fifth film, so we won't be without him for too long. The movie is being praised for its intense choreography and de Armas' fighting skills (well, plus her stunt doubles), and that's a high bar given that the Wick series has some of the best gunfights in film history. It's a common complaint that there are simply not enough women action stars compared to their male counterparts. It may be hard to pin down an actual ratio, but it's certainly uneven. Here, de Armas is establishing herself in the genre after dipping her toe in previously across from James Bond in a memorable, brief turn in No Time to Die. Ballerina It's worth noting that one of de Armas' breakout roles was Knock Knock, opposite, you guessed it, Keanu Reeves, so we're coming full circle here. De Armas has turned into an in-demand actress in Hollywood and even scored an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in Blonde. It's encouraging to see that Ballerina is not just a cash-in on the John Wick name ('from the world of John Wick' still sounds weird as a tagline, however), but it actually stands up to the quality of the series, especially on the audience side, it seems. Although while the actress, 44, was waiting for the arrival of her second child, daughter Méi, now 8 months, via surrogate, she wasn't sure she felt totally connected. Munn, who also shares son Malcom, 3, with husband John Mulaney told People in an interview published Saturday, that waiting for Méi to be born 'was the first time I was like, 'Oh wait, is this what it's like to be an expectant dad?'' 'The dads, they're not carrying the baby. I carried Malcolm, so I understood from the very genesis, like, okay, I've got a life in me. Your body is changing and your energy is changing and your hair is changing and everything's changing, so it feels very real all the time.' This time around, Munn and Mulaney, 42, opted for a surrogate after the 'Buddy Games' alum underwent a double mastectomy and hysterectomy following her breast cancer diagnosis. ' The Hollywood vet's doctor then called and confirmed she had two healthy female embryos. As Munn put it, 'that was a sign for me everything was going to be okay.' 'I knew she knew me, and I knew her. She's got this stick-straight hair that I had when I was a baby. I think because I wasn't able to carry her, I really needed to see myself in her. Elsewhere in the interview, the 'Attack of the Show!' vet admitted that she and her other half might not be entirely done having kids. The pair still have one viable frozen female embryo.
