Indonesia's ‘spine bag' designer jailed in Myanmar, no military rescue on cards
Arnold, 33, known for his provocative online persona and content, was convicted in March by Myanmar's military junta of entering the country illegally and engaging with an ethnic armed group. He was sentenced to seven years in Yangon's Insein Prison, with the verdict now final and binding.
Some lawmakers have urged the government to take strong action to free Arnold. On July 3, Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad told reporters that while diplomacy should remain the main path, 'if diplomacy fails, we will urge the government to consider the option of a non-combat military operation'.
But top officials, including Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, have made it clear that military intervention is not on the table. 'That's not the approach we're taking,' he told reporters on Wednesday, emphasising the need to engage Myanmar's military-led government through established diplomatic and defence channels.

State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi also told reporters on Monday that Arnold's incarceration in Myanmar was 'not a military matter' in response to a question about the possibility of an operation.

Mike Waltz, US President Donald Trump's nominee for United Nations ambassador, vowed on Tuesday to make the world body 'great again' – and that he would do so by confronting Beijing's expanding influence while leading an overhaul of what he described as a bloated, favouritism-plagued institution. Indonesia dismantles baby trafficking ring smuggling infants to Singapore
Indonesian authorities have detained 12 suspects after uncovering an alleged baby trafficking ring that sent more than a dozen infants to Singapore, a police official said on Tuesday. Advertisement The case was discovered after a parent reported an alleged baby kidnapping to police, which led them to a suspect who admitted to trading 24 infants, said West Java police's director of general criminal investigation, Surawan, who goes by one name. The perpetrators are accused of moving the babies to Pontianak city on Borneo island and then sending more than a dozen of them onwards to Singapore, said the official. 'Based on documents, 14 [babies] were sent to Singapore,' he said. 'The age range is clearly under one-year-old, with some three months old, five months old, and six months old.' Advertisement Authorities managed to rescue five babies in Pontianak and one in Tangerang, a city near the Indonesian capital Jakarta. They also arrested a dozen suspects across Jakarta, Pontianak and the Javan city of Bandung. 'They are a syndicate, a baby trafficking syndicate. They each have their own roles,' said Surawan.
