Oman, Iran, launch commemorative stamp
Muscat: To coincide with the visit of Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to the Sultanate of Oman, Oman Post, in cooperation with the National Post of Iran, announced the launch of a joint commemorative stamp today at Al Alam Palace in Muscat.
The joint stamp reflects the deep cultural and historical ties between Oman and Iran, and the two countries' shared commitment to a policy of good neighborliness, constructive cooperation, and cultural exchanges between peoples.
The stamp's artistic design embodies a visual harmony between the two countries' architectural and cultural symbols. At its center is the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat, a prominent symbol of Omani Islamic architecture, framed by palm trees symbolizing Oman's resilience and deep-rooted agricultural heritage, which constitutes an integral part of the country's environmental and social identity.
Opposite, the historic Bastak Mosque in southern Iran is framed by the cypress tree, a symbol of eternity in Persian visual culture and a testament to cultural stability and continuity. At the heart of the design is a hand-woven Persian carpet, inspired by the one in the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque.
Handwoven in Iran's Khorasan Province and decorated with delicate floral motifs, it is a fine example of artisanal collaboration and a symbol of the diverse cultural ties between the two friendly countries and societies.
Above this scene, the sun of renewal and hope for a prosperous future rises, symbolizing the two countries' aspirations for positive cooperation. A carrier pigeon soars above, a symbol of communication, peace, and harmony, carrying a continuous and renewed message of friendship and shared interests.
Through this stamp, both sides affirmed their determination to enhance cooperation in the field of postal services, contributing to expanding promising areas of partnership with greater mutual benefits.

$30bn trade target as Oman-Iran bilateral ties deepen
Muscat – Oman and Iran are targeting a sharp increase in bilateral trade, aiming to grow the current volume of US$2bn to US$30bn within three years. The announcement was made during a high-level business meeting held at Al Alam Palace in Muscat, attended by Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian and Omani and Iranian business leaders. President Pezeshkian called for stronger links between economic corridors and ports in both countries to develop trade and investment cooperation with the aim of increasing the trade volume. He said Iran is ready to work with Oman across economic, scientific and cultural sectors, and emphasised the importance of facilitating financial transfers to support business operations. 'We are committed to building partnerships across multiple sectors and ensuring that the benefits are mutual,' he said, adding that Iran remains focused on promoting security and stability in the region while supporting the broader Muslim community. Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, said Oman is working to diversify its economy under the guidance of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. He encouraged the Iranian delegation to explore opportunities in sectors such as renewable energy, tourism, logistics, food security and industry. 'Trade between Oman and Iran grew by over 50% last year, and the number of Iranian companies operating in Oman rose 70%,' the minister said. He cited the opening of an Iranian biopharmaceutical factory, a petrochemical plant and other industrial projects in Oman as examples of growing cooperation. He also highlighted the Sarooj Complex as a key Omani investment in Iran. Faisal bin Abdullah al Rowas, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), said formation of the Omani-Iranian Joint Business Council has helped boost trade exchange and address challenges faced by business leaders in both countries. 'This meeting under the patronage of the leadership sends a clear signal of support for the private sector's role in building durable economic ties,' he said. Faisal bin Abdullah al Rowas, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry Rowas underlined OCCI's focus on key sectors, including maritime transport, renewable energy and logistics. He reaffirmed the chamber's commitment to supporting partnerships between the private sectors in both countries. Samad Hassanzadeh, President of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, urged business leaders to use the preferential trade agreement between the two nations to build stronger ties. He called for a clear roadmap and regular meetings to keep the momentum going. Mohammed Abdulhussein Baqer, Omani Co-Chair of the Omani-Iranian Joint Business Council, said it is working on a series of strategic initiatives to raise trade and investment flows. These include setting up permanent sea and air routes, launching an exchange company to support financial transfers and developing an online platform to connect exporters, importers and investors from both sides. Jamal Razeqi Jahromi, Iranian Co-Chair of the joint council, said the current trade volume does not reflect the historical relations between Oman and Iran. He urged business leaders to take advantage of the agreements signed during President Pezeshkian's visit to expand cooperation.

H M Sultan Haitham, Pezeshkian praise growing cooperation
Muscat – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian of the Islamic Republic of Iran have affirmed their support for a greater role of the private sector in both countries, expressing hope that increased commercial activity would lead to higher levels of investment and trade. The two leaders also noted the depth of political consultation and coordination between Muscat and Tehran, highlighting their alignment on several bilateral and regional matters. A joint communiqué issued following President Pezeshkian's official two-day visit to Oman underlined the historical and cultural ties between the two nations. The visit was aimed at strengthening relations and reaffirming mutual respect between their leaderships and peoples. During official talks at Al Alam Palace, the leaders reviewed prospects for cooperation in economic, investment and other fields. They expressed satisfaction with efforts and called for continued collaboration through regular meetings of joint committees. The two leaders welcomed the signing of several agreements covering investment promotion and protection, legal and judicial cooperation, a preferential trade pact, a framework for broader cooperation, and multiple memoranda of understanding. They also noted the growing collaboration between Oman Post and National Post of Iran, which has led to the release of a joint postage stamp symbolising cultural diplomacy and strong people-to-people ties. On regional issues, His Majesty the Sultan and President Pezeshkian discussed the situation in Gaza, calling for a full and permanent ceasefire. They condemned the targeting of civilians and urged an end to what they termed genocide committed by Israeli forces in Gaza and other Palestinian territories. The two leaders called on the international community to fulfil its humanitarian responsibilities by providing relief to Gaza's civilian population. They rejected any moves to displace or persecute Palestinians. The president commended Oman's diplomatic efforts in facilitating indirect talks between Iran and the United States on the nuclear file. His Majesty the Sultan expressed hope that these discussions would yield an agreement that contributes to regional security and stability. Both sides reaffirmed the importance of continuing to work together in regional and international forums to promote peace and security globally. President Pezeshkian conveyed his thanks to His Majesty the Sultan, the government and the people of Oman for their hospitality and extended an invitation for an official visit to Iran, which was accepted by His Majesty.

Oman-Yemen power grid interconnection under study
MUSCAT: Well-known international energy sector engineering services consultancy firm Monenco has announced that it has secured a contract from Omani authorities to study the feasibility of interconnecting the power grids of Oman and Yemen. The client is Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC), the majority state-owner and operator of the Sultanate's national grid. OETC – part of Nama Group – also manages interconnectivity with the grids of neighbouring countries via the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA), a joint initiative by member states of the GCC to support electricity exchanges. 'We're proud to announce that Monenco Oman has been awarded the highly strategic Oman–Yemen Power Grid Interconnection Project by Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) under Tender No. 15/2025,' Monenco noted in a recent post. 'Monenco will be responsible for delivering the feasibility study, engineering services, and full supervision during implementation up to successful energization. This project is a major step toward enhancing energy security and fostering regional power connectivity across the Arabian Peninsula and the wider GCC region,' the company further added. The initiative aligns with an ongoing bid by Oman to explore grid interconnectivity with all of its neighbours with which it shares a land border, as well as with Iran across the Strait of Hormuz. On Tuesday, the Sultanate signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Iran to review a feasibility study of a grid interconnection project between the two countries. The MoU was among 18 cooperation pacts inked by the two countries during the official visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Muscat. Signing on behalf of Oman was Eng Salim bin Nasser al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, while Iran was represented by Seyed Mohammad Atabak, Minister of Industry, Mining, and Trade. Meanwhile, linkages between Oman and the GCCIA network continue to expand and strengthen. According to OETC, a new 400kV direct transmission line between Oman and the GCCIA network is currently in the design stage. 'This new line will establish a vital link between the OETC Ibri IPP and the Silaa grid stations (in the UAE), with the project scheduled for completion in Q1 2027. The interconnection will enhance the reliability and resilience of the transmission system by increasing the total transfer capacity between Oman and the GCCIA networks to 1,700MW, strengthening regional grid integration, supporting the energy transition and improving energy security,' OETC affirmed in its recently published Transmission Capability Statement. As part of the new direct link GCCIA will build and own a new 400kV grid station at Ibri, not far from the existing Ibri IPP grid station. This new Ibri GCCIA 400kV grid station will be connected to the Silaa 400kV grid station owned by GCCIA with total overhead-line length of about 528 km (88.2 km from Ibri GCCIA 400kV to the border and 470 km from the border to Silaa and introducing a middle point station at UAE). Importantly, the new direct link builds on an existing interconnection between Oman and the GCCIA network, which has been operational since November 2011. It connects Mahadha grid station at Al Wasit in Oman with the Al Oha grid station at Al Ain in the UAE. In 2024, Oman exported 775,637.38 megawatt-hours (MWh) and imported 63,948.41 MWh through the existing GCCIA interconnection, 'reflecting a robust interconnection and mutual support within the region's energy sector,' OETC remarked.
