Hiring growth in India: Global tech firms ramps up recruitment, domestic majors slow down; AI, cloud drive demand shift, say experts

AI-generated image Even as India's top IT services companies tighten their workforce, global tech giants are ramping up hiring across their Indian operations. The collective employee base of the FAAMNG group- Meta, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Netflix, and Google- grew by 16 per cent in India over the past 12 months, adding more than 28,000 net new jobs, according to staffing firm Xpheno, cited by Economic Times. Their total headcount in the country now exceeds 208,000. This growth surpasses the 15 per cent expansion reported till August 2024 and comes at a time when these firms have announced nearly 100,000 job cuts globally, largely concentrated in the US and Europe. 'Even in a tough global environment, India remains a critical hub for talent, particularly in areas like AI and cloud,' said Kamal Karanth, cofounder of Xpheno. 'The hiring trend shows resilience, and AI is emerging as a key driver shaping recruitment patterns.' Over 4,500 positions across FAAMNG's Indian operations remain open, reflecting sustained demand for specialised tech roles. Indian IT firms lose steam In contrast, India's top six IT services players- including TCS, Infosys and Wipro- are facing a hiring slowdown. After registering 22 per cent headcount growth in 2022, the sector saw contractions of 0.2 per cent and 3.1 per cent in 2023 and 2024 respectively. Tata Consultancy Services recently announced 12,000 job cuts at mid and senior levels, citing skill mismatches and project realignment. 'The market is shifting. While traditional roles are being phased out, there's a surge in demand for skills in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and cloud technologies,' said Neeti Sharma, CEO of TeamLease Digital. 'It's a tough transition, but essential for staying relevant. Companies are under pressure to retain only top-performing, future-ready teams.' Recruitment has become highly targeted, with most openings focused on specialised digital skills. Hiring for support roles in legacy systems has seen a marked decline. According to Quess IT Staffing, hiring by major global tech companies in India dipped 3–6 per cent in the last quarter of FY25, but rebounded by 8–10 per cent in the first quarter of FY26. Much of the action is happening through Global Capability Centres (GCCs), where firms are increasingly building AI tools, cloud platforms and digital products. 'Despite global redundancies, companies are expanding in India via their GCCs,' said Kapil Joshi, CEO of Quess IT Staffing. 'They are balancing cost control with innovation, and that means investing in deep tech skills and advanced capabilities.' Experts say the transition will require accelerated skilling efforts to close the talent gap. While traditional IT services hiring may stay muted, India's strategic position as a global innovation hub appears to be strengthening. From global agreements to local action: India's opportunity to lead the way in VDA governance

The Virtual Digital Asset ( VDA ) ecosystem is one of the most exciting and rapidly growing sectors globally. What began with the publication of the Bitcoin whitepaper in 2008 has, in under two decades, evolved into a diverse and expansive global industry. Today, Bitcoin is just one component of a much broader landscape that includes tokens, smart contracts, decentralised finance, and blockchain infrastructure. India has emerged as a global leader in this ecosystem. It has consistently ranked first on the Chainalysis Global Crypto Adoption Index and is home to one of the world's largest Web3 developer communities, as highlighted in the Electric Capital Developer Report 2024. Since then, most G20 jurisdictions have made significant progress. Did you Know? The world of cryptocurrencies is very dynamic. Prices can go up or down in a matter of seconds. Thus, having reliable answers to such questions is crucial for investors. View Details » The European Union's landmark MiCA framework came into full force in December 2024, setting a global precedent. In the U.S., regulatory momentum has picked up, with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) forming a dedicated Crypto Task Force, and a presidential executive order on the Bitcoin Reserve and the U.S. Digital Asset Stockpile pushing the agenda toward concrete legislative action. Live Events Most recently, on June 17, the U.S. Senate passed the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins (GENIUS) Act. These developments highlight the critical role legislatures play in shaping emerging tech policy and demonstrate how both legislative and executive branches must work together to sustain regulatory momentum. In India, however, a formal discourse on regulating VDAs remains absent. The current framework is limited to AML/CFT oversight, a steep taxation regime, and a proposal to collect and exchange data on VDA transactions via the CARF (Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework). One of the glaring gaps in India's governance architecture is Parliament 's limited engagement with emerging technologies, particularly VDAs and blockchain innovations. It is noteworthy that between 2021 and 2025, of the 52,116 questions asked in the Lok Sabha, only 0.063% were related to cryptoassets, cryptocurrency, or VDAs. In the Rajya Sabha, this figure stands at 0.08% of the 32,398 questions from 2021–2024. As for debates, the 17th Lok Sabha saw only three discussions—two through Zero Hour speeches and one Special Mention. The ongoing 18th session has seen none so far. In 2021, Parliament did indicate its intent to develop a legislative framework on cryptoassets, but that effort did not move forward. Interestingly, India announced plans to release a Discussion Paper (DP) on VDAs in July 2024. The DP is a crucial first step; however, nearly a year has passed since the announcement, and the paper is still awaited. Its timely release, coupled with engagement from a proactive and informed Parliament, will be key to advancing this vision. With only a handful of MPs currently equipped to navigate the nuances of digital innovation, there is a pressing need to build institutional capacity for informed legislative engagement. The Honourable Lok Sabha Speaker recently underscored the urgency of these issues, highlighting the importance of appropriate regulatory systems, data privacy protection, and equitable tech access being discussed across national parliaments. The complexity of VDAs—spanning taxation, financial markets, security, privacy, and global compliance—requires robust and sustained parliamentary dialogue. Sustaining this momentum will require improving MP awareness through briefing sessions, committee consultations, and cross-party engagement. India's ambitious 'Viksit Bharat' vision for 2047 hinges on inclusive growth and leadership in not only digital public infrastructure but also sunrise sectors such as AI, digital technology, and—critically—fintech. As VDAs become an integral part of this landscape, the forthcoming Discussion Paper presents a timely opportunity to chart a clear, forward-looking regulatory path. But turning this opportunity into action will require more than just policy intent; it demands a proactive, informed, and engaged Parliament. A strong legislative foundation—grounded in debate and cross-party collaboration—will be essential for India to not only keep pace with global developments but also lead in shaping the future of digital finance and technology governance. Why Indian investors should look at Silver in 2025: The metal poised for growth

Amid ongoing economic uncertainty, currency fluctuations, and the global green energy transition, silver is gaining renewed traction among Indian investors. Traditionally seen as the "poor cousin" of gold, silver is now stepping into the spotlight—not just as a precious metal, but as a high-demand industrial commodity. With prices surging and ETFs gaining popularity in India, silver could be a smart portfolio addition in 2025. According to the Silver Institute, global silver demand is projected to exceed 1.2 billion ounces in 2025, driven by its critical role in solar energy, electric vehicles (EVs), and industrial electronics. Globally, silver is trading around $32.50/oz (₹2,700 per 10 grams) as of July 2025, up 18% YoY. In India, prices have crossed the ₹90,000 per kg mark—an increase of over 20% year-on-year, outperforming many traditional investment instruments like FDs and even short-term gold returns. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Thon Ba Mo: Unsold Furniture Liquidation 2024 (Prices May Surprise You) Unsold Furniture | Search Ads Learn More Undo What's fueling silver's rise? 1. Clean energy push India's ambitious renewable energy targets—500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030—will require massive investments in solar infrastructure, where silver is a core material. Each solar panel uses 15–20 grams of silver, and demand is expected to grow in tandem with the government's Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes in renewables and semiconductors. 2. EV adoption in India As per NITI Aayog estimates, India aims for 30% EV penetration in private vehicles by 2030. EVs use 2–3x more silver than internal combustion vehicles, particularly in connectors and control systems. This will significantly raise domestic industrial silver consumption. 3. A hedge against inflation and Rupee weakness With domestic inflation averaging above 5%, and the rupee hovering near ₹84/USD, silver offers a hedge both against purchasing power erosion and currency depreciation. Unlike gold, silver also benefits from industrial utility, providing dual upside potential. Live Events 4. Limited domestic supply India imports over 60% of its silver requirements, making it highly sensitive to global supply-demand shifts. With mining output stagnant globally and industrial demand booming, prices are expected to remain firm or trend upward over the medium term. Investment Avenues for Indians: Indian investors now have multiple regulated and accessible ways to invest in silver: Silver ETFs: Introduced in 2022, these are seeing growing traction. The total Assets Under Management (AUM) in Indian silver ETFs have grown over 70% YoY (AMFI, Q2 2025). Silver futures : MCX Silver and Silver Mini contracts offer high liquidity. Trading volumes have risen by 35% in the past year, reflecting investor interest in short- to medium-term silver price movement. Digital silver : Offered by fintech platforms, allows fractional ownership and ease of buying/selling, particularly for younger investors. Physical silver: Coins, bars, and jewellery still hold cultural and emotional value—especially during Akshaya Tritiya, Dhanteras, and weddings. Potential Sovereign Silver Bonds: If introduced on the lines of Sovereign Gold Bonds ( SGBs ), they could offer an attractive fixed return alongside price appreciation and tax benefits. Risks to Be Aware Of: While the fundamentals look strong, silver is inherently more volatile than gold. Key risks include: Price swings due to global economic data or Fed policy Geopolitical tensions affecting imports Speculative trading in futures markets Investors are advised to keep silver as part of a diversified portfolio—ideally 5–10%, depending on risk appetite and time horizon. Conclusion: As India accelerates its clean energy and EV push, silver is set to play a critical role—not just in industry, but in wealth creation. For Indian investors seeking alternatives beyond gold, stocks, and FDs, silver offers an opportunity to participate in the next industrial and economic wave—with the added shine of inflation protection and global tailwinds.
