3 Cincinnati men indicted in Springboro break-in, high-speed chase on I-75
Mar. 13—Three Cincinnati men were indicted in a late January break-in and police pursuit with speeds reaching 110 mph in Springboro.
Darvon Antion Green, 26, Naseem Zahir Whittle, 22, Tyrese Larry Woodward, 25, were arraigned March 5 in Warren County Common Pleas Court for felony counts of burglary, theft, possessing criminal tools and obstructing official business.
Green also is charged two counts of failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer and having weapons while under disability. All three men pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Springboro police were called just after 10:45 p.m. Jan. 31 to a report of a burglary in progress at an apartment at 60 Mottaret Way.
A resident was out of town but spotted three people inside her home on security cameras wearing black clothing, masks and gloves after they broke in from the balcony. While police were on the way, the suspects left the same way they came in, according to a Springboro Police Department report.
Responding officers were passed by a speeding white 2023 Honda Accord, which did not stop when police tried to pull it over. This resulted in a police chase to Interstate 75, with speeds reaching 110 mph.
The Honda, reportedly driven by Green, struck a tire deflation device I-75 South at Austin Landing but kept going, with sparks coming from the tires as it fled toward the Ohio 73 exit.
The car was traveling erratically before it went off the right side of the road and down an embankment, striking brush, a creek and an embankment near Exit 38 in Franklin Twp., according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol crash report.
The three men, who were not injured in the crash, then ran from the car into a wooded area, leading to a foot pursuit, Springboro police said.
Springboro, Miami Twp. and Miamisburg police used drones to track the suspects, in addition to a K-9 from Miamisburg.
Footprints were spotted northwest toward the former Knights Inn, and the track jumped the fence into the VFW Campground behind Commerce Center Drive in Franklin. Officers found a blue surgical glove near the fence. Drones tracked the men as they ran across a cornfield between Commerce Center Drive and Deardoff Road.
The first suspect was taken into custody at gunpoint at 11:26 p.m., and the others split up. The second suspect was spotted in thick trees and was taken into custody at 11:31 p.m. using a K-9. The last suspect was spotted running back toward the interstate before he was taken into custody at 11:44 p.m., the report stated.
The Franklin Division of Police, Clearcreek Twp. Police Department and Warren County Sheriff's Office also assisted in the apprehension of the three men.

Bakersfield man accused of killing estranged wife makes first court appearance
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man accused of killing his estranged wife last month at a house in east Bakersfield made his first court appearance Monday, more than a week after he was first scheduled to be arraigned. Rafael Estrada, 44, pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder, four counts of willful cruelty to a child, spousal abuse, allowing or causing injury to an elder or dependent adult, recklessly evading a peace officer, driving a vehicle in the opposite direction of traffic and resisting arrest. Several prior arraignment dates were postponed. No reason for the postponements was given in court. Court Commissioner Samantha Allen ordered Estrada held without bail. His next hearing is scheduled June 20. Around 8:30 p.m. on May 28, deputies were called to a house in the 2400 block of Monterey Street to reports that a man had seriously injured his wife. They arrived and found Taylor Danay Dominguez Estrada, 32, with 'severe trauma,' according to sheriff's officials. She was declared dead at the scene. Family members have told 17 News that Rafael Estrada showed up to a party uninvited and slit his wife's throat in front of at least one child. Rafael Estrada was spotted by sheriff's helicopter driving away in a white truck before deputies arrived, officials said. Deputies located and chased the pickup until the pursuit ended about 10 miles away in the 9900 block of Ramos Avenue. Officials said a K-9 was used to take Estrada into custody. Union County reports two separate one-vehicle fatalities on Highway 34 last week
Jun. 9—A Clarinda man and an Osceola woman were killed in separate Union County one-vehicle accidents five days apart. According to a Union County Sheriff's report, in the early hours of Tuesday, June 3, a 1983 Honda motorcycle, driven by John Pace, 54, of Clarinda, was traveling eastbound on Highway 34 when it didn't navigate the turn properly. The motorcycle traveled into the north ditch of the highway where it came to a rest on its side and Pace was located on the ground south of the motorcycle. The accident was found around 4 a.m. by a driver of a semi who had seen the lights and turned around to check. Pace was deceased at the scene and has been taken for autopsy. The investigation is ongoing. On June 8, the Union County Sheriff's Office received numerous 911 calls at approximately 11:50 a.m. regarding a reckless driver who was all over the roadway eastbound on Highway 34 past Highway 169. As the vehicle was close to the Clarke County line and without a Union County deputy in the area, a call was transferred to Clarke County. Union County was then advised that the vehicle, a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by San Vega, 43, of Osceola, was involved in an accident at mile marker 102 in Union County where it went off the roadway, down an embankment and came to rest in the Grand River. The caller told Clarke County they were able to get the Traverse stopped on the side of the road. When they went to put the vehicle in park, it was instead put into reverse. Vega lost consciousness and lifted her foot off the brake, causing the vehicle to reverse down the hill. Witnesses were unable to stop the vehicle. A Clarke County deputy and first responders arrived on scene after the car went down the hill. They were able to get Vega out of the vehicle before it became fully submerged in the water. Vega was transported by an ATV from the water to the Clarke County ambulance to be transferred to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines where she was declared deceased. Medics reported to deputies they smelled alcohol on or around her person. The investigation is ongoing. This is the third vehicle fatality reported in Union County this year.

Man pleads no contest to manslaughter, DUI in Pioneer Dr fatal crash
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man accused of driving drunk when his SUV collided with a car in east Bakersfield has pleaded no contest to a charge of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, according to court records. Gabriel Coronel, 33, also pleaded no contest to DUI causing injury in connection with the fatal crash that occurred last year on Pioneer Drive east of Denison Lane, records show. He faces seven years and eight months in prison, prosecutors said. A sentencing hearing is scheduled next month. Early on Feb. 17, 2024, Coronel's Chevy Traverse collided with a Honda Accord. The Honda had four occupants. Three were found unconscious by California Highway Patrol officers, according to court documents, including a woman in the front passenger seat who was later pronounced dead. Coronel told investigators the Honda veered into his lane, but physical evidence revealed the westbound Chevy crossed the yellow line and collided with the eastbound Honda, according to the documents. Breath tests revealed Coronel's blood-alcohol content at 0.12 and 0.13%, above the 0.08% legal limit, documents said.
