NAREDCO President urges govt to cap GST on building materials at 18%
New Delhi: G Hari Babu, President of National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) has urged the government to bring the Goods and Services Tax rates of building materials to the bracket of 18 per cent. Speaking at the sidelines of NAREDCO's 17th edition of National Convention in the national capital, NAREDCO President reiterated industry's demand of Input Tax Credit (ITC) under the Central Goods and Services Act (CGST) on commercial assets constructed for leasing purposes.
"One thing we are asking is the input credit facility for the builders because now it is five percent fixed rate and for affordable housing already one percent is there up to forty five lakh. We are requesting them to increase to sixty lakh. And as far as the material concern there are certain areas where twenty eight per cent GST is applicable for example cement and other materials so it is not a luxury and we want to bring that also to eighteen per cent level. So no GST should be there on building materials more than eighteen per cent that is demand," he added. GST has significantly impacted construction industry and real estate industry. GST on construction services and materials is complex, with various rates applied based on the type of service, material, and project. Construction of affordable housing projects attracts a reduced GST rate of 1 per cent while different construction materials have varying GST rates from 5 per cent to 28 per cent.
During the curtain raiser, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta assured the industry members that "Government just needs 2 years to revamp Delhi and fill the bottleneck of past 10 years of developmental backlog.
"We urge the industry members and developers to come up with the PPP models for developing state of the art hospitals, schools, shopping malls, accommodations and infrastructure and the government will give the full policy and funding support," she added. Speaking at the event, Hari Babu affirmed the vision of the body and said, "From retrofitting existing structures to building climate-smart homes, the sector must adopt a forward-thinking approach that doesn't wait for regulation to act responsibly. Today's discussions are not just about vision, they are about setting actionable goals."Harsh Vardhan Bansal, President, NAREDCO Delhi, shared how the capital's real estate sector is evolving, "Delhi presents a unique case where infrastructure demand is high, yet land and environmental constraints are very real. The question is not whether we can grow, but how we can grow smarter. "Our focus at NAREDCO Delhi is to ensure that housing, commercial development, and urban services all move in the direction of sustainability. We are working closely with policymakers and urban planners to push for incentives that reward eco-friendly practices and penalize shortsighted developments. The future belongs to those who are thinking beyond the next quarter, and our goal is to build a future-ready, climate-conscious capital city," Bansal added.

The chief minister asserted the nation is no longer dependent on the United States for exports and global recognition. "The whole world is standing with open arms to do business with India. People like Trump will get a befitting reply when we develop and rise," said Gupta addressing the silver jubilee celebration of the Patparganj CPE Study Circle. "If we all work together then it will not take time to become the third-largest largest economy from fourth number. Our exports are not dependent on America," she added. Underlining the importance of self-reliance, Gupta said, "We must become self-dependent so that whatever we consume benefits our own people." The chief minister also highlighted the role of chartered accountants (CAs) and called them the government's "army". "All the 30,000 CAs in Delhi are my army who encourage everyone to pay their taxes faithfully. Whenever there's a GST raid, the first call goes to a CA. They help ensure tax compliance," she said. Gupta announced plans to launch a new scheme to allow citizens to settle old tax dues without hassle. It would be a one-time opportunity, she said, adding that chartered accountants would play a pivotal role in its execution. "We are working towards making the tax-paying system completely faceless. People shouldn't fear the government. We are eliminating the need for multiple licenses and simplifying systems," she said. The chief minister said the public trust in chartered accountants is similar to that in doctors. "No government campaign can be as effective as a CA's word. People trust their CA and do what they say," she added. Gupta also stressed the need to end under the table transactions and build a governance model that encourages honesty and transparency.

Attacks on Indian migrants are against Ireland's values
India and Ireland share deep historical and cultural roots that have allowed our two countries, despite our vastly different sizes, to form close and enduring bonds. Today, India and Ireland share a relationship built on shared values and strong educational and economic ties. Central to this are the tens of thousands of Indian nationals who call Ireland home. Outside of citizens from the UK or EU, Indians account for the largest migrant population in Ireland. Ireland has long prided itself on its warm welcome and hospitality. The overwhelming majority of Irish people welcome migrants into their society, workplaces, and homes. (ANI Photo) The Indian community is an integral and valued part of Irish society. Indians living in Ireland are contributing immensely to our economy, our education and health care sectors, our research institutions, and our cultural life. From IT professionals and scientists, to doctors, nurses, students and entrepreneurs, Indians are helping to shape our present and our future. Their contribution is not only recognised — it is appreciated and celebrated. That is why Ireland has been so stunned by a number of recent assaults on Indians living in Dublin, our capital city. These assaults have been widely reported, both in Ireland and India, and have rightly caused deep concern across both our nations. As Ireland's ambassador to India, I wish to express our strongest condemnation of these appalling and senseless acts. These attacks — carried out by a small number of young people fuelled by misinformation — are deeply at odds with the values of the Irish people. I understand that each incident reported to Ireland's national police service is being investigated rigorously, with a view to apprehending the perpetrators and ensuring that justice will be served for the victims. The Irish embassy in New Delhi and the Irish foreign ministry in Dublin are in close and continuous contact with the Indian embassy in Dublin to share updates and express our support for affected individuals. We understand the anxiety and concern that these recent incidents have caused, both among Indians living in Ireland and their families back home in India. We are taking this matter with the utmost seriousness. These mindless actions could not be further from the values Ireland holds dear. They have generated widespread outrage across Irish society. They are not representative of who the Irish are as a people or as a country. Following a recent assault on an Indian man in the Dublin suburb of Tallaght, the local community responded by holding a rally attended by hundreds of people showing their solidarity with their Indian neighbours. Shamrock Rovers, Ireland's largest and most successful football club, invited members of the Indian community as special guests to their UEFA Conference League match at Tallaght Stadium. This initiative sent a strong, unambiguous message: Hate has no home in Ireland. The gesture by Shamrock Rovers embodied the Ireland we know — a country rooted in decency, openness and respect. Ireland has long been a nation shaped by migration. Five million people live in Ireland, but around the world, 70 million people claim Irish heritage. We are a migrant nation. This history has made us deeply aware of the immigrant experience and instilled in us a lasting commitment to inclusion and empathy. We are proud of the growing Indian diaspora in Ireland and want to see them live in safety, prosperity, and with a sense of belonging. That is, I strongly believe, the experience of the overwhelming number of migrants, from India and elsewhere, in Ireland. Ireland has long prided itself on its warm welcome and hospitality. The overwhelming majority of Irish people welcome migrants into their society, workplaces, and homes. The emergence over recent years of a tiny — but sadly vocal — anti-immigrant movement, largely fuelled by online misinformation, is a new phenomenon for us. We are grappling with it. Thankfully, the vast majority of people utterly reject their attempts to sow division. There is virtually no public support for their manifesto of hate. The hateful actions of a few must never overshadow the goodwill of the many. Let us not allow the voices of division to drown out the voices of friendship, solidarity and respect.
