Chicago Fire Warns of Layoffs and Forced Retirements — Which Character(s) Will Get Cut?

Yahoo08-05-2025

The arrival of an efficiency expert brought bad news to Chicago Fire this week.
During this Wednesday's episode, the city sends Ambrose to audit Firehouse 51, which has the whole crew groaning in displeasure, especially because they're down several team members. (Severide and Stella get called to the hospital, where a woman is in labor and has chosen them as the baby's adoptive parents, but ends up changing her mind. Meanwhile, Pascal is taking the day off, Carver is still part-time until he completes his recovery program, and Violet and Novak are assigned to an event at the convention center.)

Ambrose rides along with Engine to their rescue call, timer in hand, and proceeds to clock everything. Back at the firehouse, he questions Herrmann's backup plan.
'Redundancy is the thief of efficiency,' he says, to which Herrmann counters that they wouldn't be having this conversation if he was first responder.
As critical as Ambrose is of 51, they still come to his help when he passes out from heat exhaustion. Once recovered, he lets Herrmann and Mouch know that the firehouse passed the test — but big cuts are coming soon from the city. They can expect layoffs and forced retirements, with probationary and older firefighters the first to go. Mouch reminds Ambrose of everything he and Herrmann have accomplished, then adds, 'Us old timers are not going anywhere.'
But do they really have a choice? And with Herrmann still somewhat non-committal about becoming chief, could that be even more reason for CFD to let him go? Or do you think someone else from 51 will be cut? Could these layoffs end up explaining how the show plans to write out Ritter and Carver, whose portrayers will not return for the recently announced 14th season?
It's also worth noting that, according to Deadline, contracts are up for some veteran #OneChicago cast members like Fire star Taylor Kinney, with negotiations underway. Should those talks not go well, the layoffs twist could cushion the sudden disappearance of any characters at the top of next season.
Fire fans, hit the comments with your theories on how the potential layoffs will play out!

American Love Story Offers a First Look at Its JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette — Plus, Find Out When It Premieres

Love is blooming this Valentine's Day on FX. The inaugural season of Ryan Murphy's new anthology American Love Story will premiere next February, Murphy announced on Instagram on Friday. In fact, Season 1 of Love Story — focusing on the ill-fated romance between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette — will debut during the week of Valentine's Day, although a specific date and time have not been announced. Naomi Watts has also reportedly signed on to play JFK Jr.'s mother Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, with Grace Gummer as his sister Caroline Kennedy. 'We started shooting this week in New York City and can't wait until you see the romantic and tragic love story between America's prince, JFK Jr., and fashion icon Carolyn Bessette — out Valentine's Day week of 2026,' Murphy said in a caption. 'I am thrilled to introduce you to Sarah Pidgeon as Carolyn and Paul Kelly as John F. Kennedy Jr. Over a thousand actors auditioned for each of these roles, and we absolutely found the perfect choices.' JFK Jr., the son of the late U.S. President John F. Kennedy, married Bessette in 1996, but the two were tragically killed in a 1999 plane crash, along with her sister Lauren. American Love Story was first announced back in August 2021, with the first season focusing on JFK Jr. and Bessette. 'What started out as a beautiful union for the young couple, widely regarded as American royalty, began to fray under the stress of the relentless microscope and navel gaze of tabloid media,' the logline reads. 'The pressures of their careers and rumored family discord ended with their tragic deaths when his private plane crashed into the ocean on a hazy summer night off the coast of Massachusetts.' The Bachelor: Grant Ellis and Fiancée Juliana Split Up After 3 Months

Another Bachelor coupling has ended in heartbreak: Grant Ellis, the most recent star of ABC's dating series, has announced he and his fiancée Juliana Pasquarosa have split up. The news comes less than three months after the finale of Grant's season, which aired in March and saw Grant choose Juliana over runner-up Litia — after much deliberation — and propose to her, with Juliana happily accepting. Here's What We Know So Far Roseanne Barr Claims The Conners Wanted Her Back - Here's What the EPs Told Us About a Possible Cameo 'Juliana and I have decided to end our relationship,' Grant revealed on Instagram. 'We both gave this our best and poured a lot of love into each other, but after a lot of deep conversations, we've come to the understanding that we're simply not the right fit long term.' 'What we had was meaningful,' he insisted. 'The connection we built on the show was real, and so was the effort we made to continue once the cameras stopped rolling. There's no negativity here. No resentment. Just two people who care about each other and want the best for one another moving forward. I'll always be grateful for what we shared and for the growth that came with it.' Juliana confirmed the split on her Instagram: 'After a lot of honest conversations and reflection, we've come to the decision that this chapter of our lives is meant to continue on separate paths… We're still cheering each other on, just from different places now.' In better Bachelor Nation news, though, Season 27 star Zach Shallcross and the recipient of his final rose, Kaity Biggar, got married last month in a private (i.e., not televised) ceremony in Texas, becoming just the second Bachelor final couple to actually tie the knot. American Horror Story Season 13: Ryan Murphy Says He and Sarah Paulson Are ‘Cooking Up Something Cool'

At this point, American Horror Story fans will take any information they can get about the show's elusive Season 13 — so what better day for Ryan Murphy to throw us a few crumbs than Friday the 13th? In the comments section of a first look at Ryan Murphy Productions' American Love Story, shared to Instagram on Friday, a fan asked the producer, 'Ryan, are we getting AHS13 this year? Or not in 2025?' To that, Murphy simply replied, 'Sarah Paulson and I are cooking up something cool!' Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter back in October 2024, he teased that Season 13 was coming 'sooner than you think,' adding that he 'was talking to Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters about that the other day.' Paulson further fanned the flames of speculation during a subsequent Good Morning America interview. 'I would like to do it more than anything,' she said of Season 13. 'If I could be reunited with Evan Peters and Ryan Murphy, you can pretty much tell me what time I will be there, and I will be there.' That said, the fact that Murphy only mentioned Paulson in his latest comment gives us reason to think Peters may not be involved after all. The waiting continues. Paulson most recently appeared in Season 10, American Horror Story: Double Feature, playing both a drug addict named 'Tuberculosis Karen' in the first half, then real-life first lady Mamie Eisenhower in the second half. (The range!) Peters' latest Horror Story stint also came in Season 10; he played an eccentric writer named Austin Sommers. The show's most recent season — American Horror Story: Delicate, which starred Emma Roberts as a desperate actress caught in the clutches of a supernaturally evil publicist, played by Kim Kardashian — aired in two parts between September 2023 and April 2024.
