ACB recovers five crore from bank lockers of KLIS EE held in DA case
HYDERABAD: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials reportedly recovered Rs 5 crore in cash from bank lockers belonging to Nune Sridhar, Executive Engineer of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS).
The recovery was made on Monday during the fourth day of his custodial interrogation.
Sridhar is currently in ACB custody as part of a five-day remand that began on June 20. Sources said the ACB is probing allegations that the engineer amassed disproportionate assets to the tune of `200 crore through illegal means. As part of the investigation, the ACB officials have scrutinised his bank records and opened multiple lockers in his name.
The ongoing inquiry also focuses on Sridhar's suspected purchase of high-value immovable properties and his alleged financial dealings through benami accounts. Officials said further questioning is underway to identify the source of the funds and potential collaborators.
Sridhar was arrested by ACB on June 11 following searches at 14 places in the state linked to him and unearthed disproportionate assets allegedly worth over `200 crore.
It is to be noted that the state government transferred Irrigation Engineer-in-Chief (General) G Anil Kumar the same day Sridhar was taken into custody. It is alleged that Anil Kumar played a role in shielding Sridhar by allowing him to remain in his post even after he was transferred out.
The ACB is now looking into whether administrative support enabled Sridhar to remain in a key position and accumulate illicit wealth. Further action and additional recoveries are expected as the investigation progresses. However, ACB officials were not available for their comments.

17 liquor shops in Indore district fined Rs 43.75 lakh for MRP violations
Indore, Jun 24 (PTI) The administration in Madhya Pradesh's Indore district has imposed a fine of Rs 43.75 lakh on 17 liquor shops for violating maximum retail price (MRP), an official from the excise department said on Tuesday. A probe headed by Assistant Excise Commissioner Abhishek Tiwari found that some shops were selling liquor at prices higher or lower than the MRP, he said.

A man allegedly forced his wife to have physical relations with his friend to pay off a debt of Rs 50,000 in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district, the police said on Tuesday. The police registered a case at the women's police station in Indore; however, considering the seriousness of the crime, they registered a 'zero' FIR and then transferred it to the Dhar police for further action. A 'zero' FIR is a police report that any police station can file, even if the incident did not happen in their area. It is used when someone reports a serious crime (cognisable offence), and the police want to make sure the case is recorded quickly, without delay due to jurisdiction issues. Later, it can be transferred to the police station that has the right area to investigate. Kanwan police station in-charge Abhay Neema said that the woman alleged her husband was a gambler. As his debt kept mounting, she alleged, the husband forced her to have physical relations with one of his friends who had lent him money. When the husband failed to repay the debt, he allegedly made a deal with a friend and forced his wife to have a physical relationship with him in order to settle the debt.
