ACB recovers five crore from bank lockers of KLIS EE held in DA case

HYDERABAD: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials reportedly recovered Rs 5 crore in cash from bank lockers belonging to Nune Sridhar, Executive Engineer of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS).
The recovery was made on Monday during the fourth day of his custodial interrogation.
Sridhar is currently in ACB custody as part of a five-day remand that began on June 20. Sources said the ACB is probing allegations that the engineer amassed disproportionate assets to the tune of `200 crore through illegal means. As part of the investigation, the ACB officials have scrutinised his bank records and opened multiple lockers in his name.
The ongoing inquiry also focuses on Sridhar's suspected purchase of high-value immovable properties and his alleged financial dealings through benami accounts. Officials said further questioning is underway to identify the source of the funds and potential collaborators.
Sridhar was arrested by ACB on June 11 following searches at 14 places in the state linked to him and unearthed disproportionate assets allegedly worth over `200 crore.
It is to be noted that the state government transferred Irrigation Engineer-in-Chief (General) G Anil Kumar the same day Sridhar was taken into custody. It is alleged that Anil Kumar played a role in shielding Sridhar by allowing him to remain in his post even after he was transferred out.
The ACB is now looking into whether administrative support enabled Sridhar to remain in a key position and accumulate illicit wealth. Further action and additional recoveries are expected as the investigation progresses. However, ACB officials were not available for their comments.

In a disturbing case of caste-based violence, a Bhagwat Kathak (Bhagavad Gita reciter) was brutally assaulted in Dadrapur village, Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh. According to reports, the victim, a member of the Yadav community, was attacked by individuals allegedly from the Brahmin community for not belonging to the 'expected" caste of a Gita reciter. He and several members of his team were reportedly targeted during the incident. Shocking videos of the assault have since gone viral, sparking outrage and widespread condemnation on social media. According to The Free Press Journal, the victim, identified as Mukutmani Singh Yadav, a resident of Kanpur, has accused Pappu Baba of attacking him upon learning about his caste. Pappu was the one who organised the seven-day religious event, where he invited Mukutmani and his fellow reciters to perform in the Dadar Pur village of Mahewa block. However, when the locals learned that the reciter was from the Yadav community and not a Brahmin, they turned violent, leading to the attack. जिला इटावा के अहेरीपुर क्षेत्र में यादव समाज के कथावाचक अपनी कथा कर रहे थेक्षेत्र के ब्राह्मण समाज को जैसे ही पता चला कि ये कथावाचक यादव समाज के हैं, उन्होंने कथावाचक के साथ मारपीट की व उनका सिर मुंडवाया इतना ही नहीं, अपमानित करते हुए सार्वजनिक रूप से उनकी नाक को जमीन में… — Priyanshu Kumar (@priyanshu__63) June 23, 2025 As claimed by Mukutmani, Pappu Baba, along with Atul, Manish, Dealer, and many other villagers, started beating him with shoes, forcibly shaved his head, and even made him bow down to the villagers' footwear and apologise. He was also forced to rub his nose on the feet of one of the female devotees. Further in his claims, Mukutmani alleged that the attackers stole Rs 25,000 from him along with a gold chain before removing him from the village. A video going viral shows the reciter's head being shaved off by a group of people, with many mocking him and forcing him to apologise. Some could be heard threatening the man about entering the village of Brahmins. In prompt action, Mukutmani lodged a complaint with the police and even met SSP Brijesh Kumar Srivastava, demanding strict action. An FIR has been registered against Pappu Yadav and others under various IPC sections. Terming the incident as 'unacceptable," the SSP has assured swift action. On the other hand, the incident has also sparked heated reactions on the internet, with many condemning caste-based violence. — Akhilesh Yadav (@yadavakhilesh) June 23, 2025 Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also shared the video. Man In Debt Forces Wife To Have Sex With His Friend To Pay Off Loan In Madhya Pradesh

Last Updated: The man allegedly "sold" his wife to his friend, who lent him money in Madhya Pradesh. The police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused. A man allegedly forced his wife to have physical relations with his friend to pay off a debt of Rs 50,000 in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district, the police said on Tuesday. The police registered a case at the women's police station in Indore; however, considering the seriousness of the crime, they registered a 'zero' FIR and then transferred it to the Dhar police for further action. A 'zero' FIR is a police report that any police station can file, even if the incident did not happen in their area. It is used when someone reports a serious crime (cognisable offence), and the police want to make sure the case is recorded quickly, without delay due to jurisdiction issues. Later, it can be transferred to the police station that has the right area to investigate. Kanwan police station in-charge Abhay Neema said that the woman alleged her husband was a gambler. As his debt kept mounting, she alleged, the husband forced her to have physical relations with one of his friends who had lent him money. When the husband failed to repay the debt, he allegedly made a deal with a friend and forced his wife to have a physical relationship with him in order to settle the debt. The police said that a manhunt has been launched to nab both men. First Published: June 24, 2025, 16:47 IST
