Father-son duo killed as tree falls on their motorcycle in UPs Deoria
According to police, five people, including three children, were travelling on a motorcycle and were on their way to celebrate Raksha Bandhan festivities.
As the vehicle approached a petrol pump, an old, dilapidated tree standing by the roadside suddenly fell on the motorcycle, trapping all the passengers.
Residents quickly rushed to help the injured and took them to the community health centre in Lar, where doctors declared the father, Santosh Chauhan (40), and his 6-year-old son, Shiva, dead on arrival.
The boy's mother, Mamta Devi (32), and his sisters, Shivani (13) and Sonali (8), were seriously injured and are undergoing treatment at Deoria Medical College, police said.

Delivery boy dies after throat being slashed by manjha string
Lucknow: A 33-year-old delivery boy, identified as Amar Rajput, died in a tragic incident on Saturday morning after his throat was slashed by a kite's glass-coated string (manjha) near the Hardoi bridge in Hiran Nagar Kotwali area of Unnao. According to police, Amar, employed with an e-commerce platform, had left home saying he was going to collect a payment to buy gifts for his sisters for Raksha Bandhan. "First I will bring gifts, then get the rakhi tied," he reportedly told his family before leaving. As he reached the Hardoi bridge, a manjha string got entangled around his neck. Before he could stop his bike, the sharp string cut deeply into his throat, causing him to collapse on the roadside in a pool of blood. Local residents rushed him to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Amar, married two years ago, leaves behind his wife Komal and a young daughter. The tragedy sank the family into grief. His mother Kusuma and sisters Niharika and Neha wept inconsolably in the mortuary, with Kusuma fainting repeatedly. "The doctor indicated that he was attacked with something sharp. My son's workplace should be investigated to know who called him out," she said. A sobbing Niharika said, "We told him to get the rakhi tied first. If he had stayed, he might still be alive. We don't want any gift—just give us our brother back." Amar's father, Dinesh, in deep shock, said his son was the family's only earning member. "Now who will take care of my daughters-in-law and grandchild?" Kotwali SHO Avnish Singh reached the spot and initiated an inquiry. Bokaro girl found dead in Ranchi hostel
Ranchi: An 18-year-old girl from Bokaro was found dead on the ground floor of a three-storey private hostel in Ranchi's Pundag area on Sunday. Neha Singh, a working woman, has been staying in the hostel for the last two months. Singh had been employed at a marketing company in Ranchi for the past two months. Police said preliminary investigations suggest the incident to be a case of suicide. However, police have been investigating other angles as well. Cops have not found any suicide note at the spot. "As per information, the deceased, along with her hostel friends, celebrated Rakshabandhan on Saturday. On Sunday, unable to find Neha in her room, her friends started searching for her and saw her body lying on the ground floor of the building. They immediately informed the hostel owner and the police. Cops arrived at the spot and sent her body for post-mortem examination at Rims," Pundag outpost in-charge Deepak Narayan Singh told TOI. Singh added that Neha informed her mother of being unwell a few days back. "She complained to her mother of suffering from a headache for the last few days. Family members called her home, but she didn't go. Her father arrived in Ranchi after the incident, but has not yet informed about noticing anything unusual about her," the police officer said. Depressed over death of sister, teen ends life
Lucknow: A 17-year-old boy, who was under depression after the death of his sister, committed suicide by hanging himself on Raksha Bandhan. The incident took place at Gohanakhurd village in Itaunja police station area of Lucknow. The deceased was identified as Robin. According to the police, Robin went to his farm along with his father. After reaching the farm, he sent his father to bring fertiliser and pesticides. Robin committed suicide as soon as his father left the farm. The police said Robin committed suicide by hanging himself from a Neem tree outside the village. Robin's sister had also committed suicide about six months back by hanging herself in her house.
