170 without ILPs, 134 with expired permits found in Manipur after 2,412 checked
'The defaulters were taken to the Mao Gate ILP counter and made to acquire the required ILP passes. So far, no illegal immigrant has been detected,' a note issued by Manipur Police late Wednesday night read.
Under the ILP system, which came into effect in the northeastern border state on January 1, 2020, outsiders, including people from other states of the country, need to take permission to visit.

The Manipur Police have verified around 2,412 people since last week. 'The drive was carried out in market areas, along National Highway-2, Maram-Peren Road, Tadubi-Tolloi Road and other inter-village roads in all PS (police station) jurisdictions by the Senapati district police task force, which was constituted for the above purpose. Also, thorough checking continues to be carried out at all border entry points. This special drive will be continued in the days to come,' a police officer said.
Manipur became the fourth state after Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Mizoram where the ILP regime is applicable. The objective of the ILP system is to prevent the settlement of other Indian nationals in the states that come under it, so as to protect the indigenous population in terms of land, jobs, and other facilities.

More than 9 lakh Inner Line Permit documents have been issued, and over ₹13 crore has been generated as revenue till December last year, when the state celebrated five years of successful implementation of the ILP system in Manipur.
Manipur's five districts — Chandel, Kamjong, Tengnoupal, Pherzawl, and Churachandpur — share a 398-km-long international border with Myanmar.

In the past eleven years, India's economy has risen from the 10th position to the top five globally and is rapidly progressing towards becoming one of the top three economies,' he said. The PM's endorsement of the country's economic growth came after Trump, on July 30, announced 25% punitive tariffs on Indian goods entering America for purchasing Russian oil. A day later he again targeted India, saying, 'I don't care what India does with Russia… They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care.' On August 6, he signed an executive order imposing an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods. India has called the American actions 'unfair, unjustified and unreasonable' and said it will take all actions necessary to protect its national interests. In his address, Modi also called for the country to accelerate its self-reliance in the technology sector as he pressed for a stronger 'Tech Atmanirbhar Bharat'. 'Indian tech companies have made their mark on the global stage. They have built software and products for the world. The time has come to give greater priority to the needs of India. We must move forward in manufacturing new products,' he said. The statement was in line with his August 2 remarks in which he called on citizens to adopt the spirit of 'swadeshi' and support locally made products, stressing that true service to the nation lies in promoting indigenous goods amid global economic uncertainties. The additional 25% tariffs, due to take effect on August 27, will put Indian exporters at a significant disadvantage compared to their rivals in Bangladesh, Indonesia and Vietnam – which face tariffs of between 19% and 20%. In his speech, Modi said that the country's rapid pace of development was linked to its economic growth as he focused on the rise of the country's exports. 'Before 2014, India's total export was $468 billion, but today it is $824 billion. We used to import mobile phones but now we are among the top five exporters of mobile handsets. Our electronic export before 2014 was $6 billion, which has gone up to $38 billion dollars,' Modi said. He added: 'These achievements give strength to our concept of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). We will march together and build a developed India.' 'A key factor in the operation's success was 'Make in India' in defence, which had immense contribution from the youth of Karnataka and Bengaluru,' he said. Jammu: Major Gen loses over Rs 2.2 crore to investment scam, Hyderabad firm booked, says police
The Jammu & Kashmir Crime Branch Sunday booked the managing director and several executives of a Hyderabad-based firm, Capital Protection Force Pvt Ltd, over a multi-crore investment app scam in which a serving Army Major General too lost over `2 crore. The case was registered following complaints from two people including the Army officer, who lost money investing through the 'Falcon Invoice Discounting app', an officer said. The firm's MD, Amardeep Kumar and directors Anita Kumari and Sandeep Kumar were named in the complaints. According to the FIR, Amardeep Kumar, an Indian national residing in Dubai, is the main accused in the multi-crore Ponzi-style fraud in which many Indian investors were affected. The Crime Branch said the company's officials fraudulently collected and misled investors with fabricated vendor profiles via social media promotions, fake deals and baseless claims of partnerships with reputed multinational companies. The first complainant, the Major General, had been duped of more than `2.21 crore. Repayment was promised but never made by the company. The complaint also said the company had closed operations without returning the amount.
