Rape accused Zhenhao Zou urged victim to drink alcohol

BBC News11-02-2025

A woman alleged she was raped by a Chinese PhD student in London after he encouraged her to drink more alcohol, a court heard.Zhenhao Zou, 27, is accused of drugging and raping 10 women, including three in London and seven in China - charges he denies.A police officer who took a crime report from one alleged victim told the court she said Mr Zou raped her after repeatedly giving her alcohol and would not allow her to go home.Inner London Crown Court also heard that police found bags of powder at his flat containing ketamine and MDMA when they searched the property months later.
The jury was told that Met Police officers were called on 21 May 2023 to the alleged victim's London home to reports of a serious sexual assault. In a witness statement, PC Tijani said the woman told officers she had gone out for drinks with a man who "encouraged her to drink more" a few days earlier at a party.
'He raped me'
The statement added that the woman later felt "uncomfortable" and wanted to leave, but Mr Zou would not let her.In body-worn footage played to the court, the alleged victim is heard telling officers: "He always let me drink more so that I feel the drink more. So I want to come back, and he wouldn't let me come back."The woman, whose native language is Mandarin, added: "He raped me."PC Tijani said the woman "appeared confused" and was "difficult to understand due to the language barrier".The police officers asked the alleged victim whether she had been drinking at the time of their visit to her address, as there was confusion about her account.Another officer who went to the alleged victim's home, PC Emily Nice, said the alleged woman also told police that another "girl had approached her and said she had experienced a similar incident".
Viagra and tranquilisers found
Jurors were also told that police seized substances from Mr Zou's flat in Elephant and Castle, south London, including multiple 500ml bottles of butanediol, Xanax tablets, Viagra and a folded banknote containing a white powder.Bags of white powder found were later revealed to contain ketamine and MDMA, the trial heard.Images were also found on Zou's phone of the drug sevoflurane with "suitable for full body anaesthetisation" written on its packaging, as well as of the tranquiliser triazolam, jurors heard.Prosecutors said Zou filmed nine of the alleged victims, footage of which has previously been played in court. The student moved to Belfast in 2017 to study at Queen's University before moving to London in 2019 to do a master's degree and then a PhD at UCL.Zou denies 11 counts of rape as well as three counts of voyeurism, 12 of possession of an extreme pornographic image, one of false imprisonment and eight of possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply. He will argue that the sexual interactions were consensual, that drugs and alcohol were consumed by the women voluntarily, and that some of the footage captured involved role-playing, jurors were told. The trial continues.

Woman, 33, who vanished from London's Hyde Park FOUR months ago 'is found safe and well'

A woman who went missing from London 's Hyde Park has finally been found - four months after she disappeared. Portia Vincent-Kirby, from Finchley, North London, 'dropped off the face of the earth' after spending the evening with friends on February 21. The 33-year-old - who once ran to be an MP - was spotted a month later by a family friend at the Blind Beggar pub in Whitechapel, but vanished again soon after. She is reported to have abandoned her flat and not accessed her bank card since early March while family said she had not used her passport to get out of the country. But Ms Vincent-Kirby has now been recovered 'safe and well', Metro, who have repeatedly appealed for information about her whereabouts, reports. Her mother, Janina Vincent, previously told the newspaper that the family had been 'bleeding quietly and inwardly' since her disappearance. She explained that since Ms Vincent-Kirby disappeared she had been 'dangerously close to imploding' as the horrifying ordeal took its toll on those who loved her. Ms Vincent said: 'I was thinking, ''How can this all be? How can my child just vanish?' At one point I was dangerously on edge, and had to get away so I didn't become a mess.' The Met Police were last known to be working on the theory that she may have been in Kent, where she grew up. She had also been known to live in Italy, Belgium, Greece and France. She was last seen on March 14 when she was spotted by a family friend. They did not know she was missing at the time, and they chatted for an hour in which time he bought her two drinks. The Met Police later shared footage of her at the pub - in which her mother said she looked 'very unwell and distressed'. Ms Vincent-Kirby's worried brother Max, who lives in Wigmore, Kent, previously said: 'She's got a masters' degree, she's an intelligent girl, she's not the kind of person who just vanishes. 'It's like she's dropped off the face of the earth.' Portia, who has had a number of careers, most recently worked as an administrator for an eco waste company. Before that, she worked at a law firm as a legal PA and in public relations, with her brother saying she had left her most recent role in February. She ran as the Green Party candidate for Hendon, North London, in 2019.

Incredible moment Bridgerton star FIGHTS thief who took her phone before tackling him to cafe floor & grabbing it back

Astonishing footage from police shows Genevieve grabbing Boulares' shoulder as she realises her phone has been taken. She then tackles the serial thief to the ground with the help of another customer. Genevieve managed to take her phone back from Boulares before repeatedly hitting him with it in the posh cafe. She previously claimed she suffered a concussion in the horror in February and said even her dog was "traumatised". The star added: "They didn't expect me to stand up for myself – but I did." Algerian national Boulares previously pleaded guilty to stealing the phone. The teen also admitted common assault against fellow Joe and the Juice customer Carlo Kurcishi, who had stepped in to help. Boulares pleaded guilty to a separate charge of theft after he swiped a black leather hand bag from a diner at a pizza restaurant. The court heard he has 12 previous convictions for a total of 28 offences - all relating to theft. His rap sheet includes threatening to cut off Aled Jones' arm while stealing his £17,000 Rolex. The Songs of Praise presenter, 52, was out with his son Lucas when he was targeted near their home in Chiswick, South West London. Boulares - then aged 16 - pulled out 20 inch machete and repeatedly threatened Aled in a bid to steal the luxury timepiece. He told him: "Give me your f***king Rolex or I will cut your arm off." Aled handed over the £17,000 Rolex Daytona watch rather than fight with the armed robber. He and his son bravely followed the 6ft teen but when he spotted them, he snarled: "Walk the other way or I will cut your head off." Boulares was given a two year training and detention order after pleading guilty to robbery at Ealing Youth Court. But he was released from youth detention early after serving just 14 months of his 24-month sentence. He will be sentenced for robbing Genevieve on June 17 at Isleworth Crown Court. As well as Bridgerton, Genevieve appeared in historical film 1242: Gateway To The West. She is also a former professional athlete who represented Team GB at the Baku 2015 European Games in Artistic swimming events. 7 Genevieve tackled the thief to the ground Credit: Met Police 7 The actress appeared in season three of Bridgerton 7 Genevieve claimed she was left with a concussion Credit: Instagram
