Apple's Matt Cherniss on Record Emmy Haul and ‘Studio' Breakthrough: 'Great All the Way Around'
'I am not going to take credit, Cherniss told The Hollywood Reporter, laughing. 'That's a team decision here, but the fact that they did get those nominations is just fantastic. I mean, we're fans ourselves here, so to see people like that, who we love to work with and are obviously legends in the business, have a little part of that is great.'

The nominations for Howard and Scorsese were two of a whopping 23 nods for The Studio, setting a record for a first-year comedy series and tying The Bear's overall comedy record, set last year. In most years, a show with 23 nominations would lead any platform's haul — except this one, where season two of Apple TV+'s Severance earned 27 nominations, leading the entire field.
Those two shows made up the bulk of Apple's record 81 Emmy nods (up from 72 last year), but a dozen other series on the service also scored nominations. 'To have 14 shows get acknowledged is really a testament to everyone involved in those series,' Cherniss said. 'It was great to see Brian Tyree Henry nominated for Dope Thief. Presumed Innocent is a fantastic show, and I think so rewarding. Shrinking is funny and heartfelt, and to see nominations for Harrison Ford and Jason Segel and everyone involved in that show, again, it's just great all the way around. We don't take for granted the amount of effort that all of these creators and talent put into these shows.'
The Studio's nominations include best comedy series, five of the six nominations for guest actor in a comedy series (Howard, Scorsese, Bryan Cranston, Dave Franco and Anthony Mackie), and an acting-writing-directing trifecta for co-creator, director and star Seth Rogen. Cherniss said the specific vision Rogen and co-creator Evan Goldberg (who also directed every episode with Rogen) had for the series helped lead to the bounty of nominations.
'They had a gut feeling about a show that they wanted to do, an instinct about how to tell the stories differently than maybe we're used to seeing them,' Cherniss said. 'I think the show is wildly funny, and also timely and resonant and celebratory of the business we all work in, while still telling great stories and having amazing characters. I think that all of their instincts were right, and their gut was right about the way to tell a story about this town and Hollywood.'

Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple and Brendan Hunt led the band in a rendition of the show's theme song 'Ted Lasso' is coming back — but the Richmond crew isn't in England anymore. As Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple and Brendan Hunt began filming for the fourth season of the Apple TV+ series in Kansas City, the group stopped by a Mumford & Sons concert to help sing their theme song. Marcus Mumford of Mumford & Sons co-created the theme song for the show alongside Tom Howe. The concert took place on July 24 at the Azura Amphitheater in Bonner Springs — a suburb of Kansas City. At this point, Sudeikis, Waddingham, Temple and Hunt took the stage, dancing and singing along. On Monday, Apple TV+ shared a first look at the fourth season of 'Ted Lasso.' The teaser featured series regulars Sudeikis, Waddingham, Temple and Jeremy Swift at what appears to be a midwestern diner. Swift did not join the group at the concert. In 2023, 'Ted Lasso' returned to Apple TV+ for a third season initially conceived as a potential series finale. The final episode of the third season was titled 'So Long, Farewell' and tied up a number of plot threads — including sending the Kansas-based Coach Lasso home after a successful final season with AFC Richmond. In March, Apple TV+ officially renewed 'Ted Lasso' for a fourth season, confirming the return of Sudeikis. In the new season, Coach Lasso will take the reins of Richmond's new women's team, which was established at the end of Season 3. Sudeikis, who grew up in Overland Park, Kansas, brings a lot of personal history to the midwestern character. 'Ted Lasso's' current Kansas City filming marks a homecoming for the 'SNL' alum and series co-developer. Based on the reactions in the video, the crowd at the Azura seemed thrilled to have him back. ‘South Park' creators reveal battle with network over wild Trump depiction, joke they're ‘terribly sorry'
'South Park' creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone discussed their controversial season 27 premiere at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, revealing a behind-the-scenes battle with network executives over airing a less-than-flattering depiction of President Donald Trump's penis during Wednesday's episode. The duo behind the long-running Comedy Central series spoke alongside a panel of other adult cartoon creators at the event, including 'Beavis and Butt-Head' creator, Mike Judge, and 'Digman!' co-creator, Andy Samberg. When asked if they had been following the reaction to their season 27 premiere by the panel's moderator, Josh Horowitz, Parker jokingly replied, 'We're terribly sorry.' Rhea Seehorn reunites with Vince Gilligan in new genre-bending sci-fi series 'Pluribus 'first look
Apple TV+ also dropped a brief teaser for the mysterious series, debuting Nov. 7. Attention, Kim Wexler hive: Apple TV+ dropped a first look at Vince Gilligan's highly-anticipated new show, a sci-fi drama that reunites him with his Better Call Saul star Rhea Seehorn. Titled Pluribus, the nine-episode series, described as genre-bending, centers on the most miserable person on Earth, tasked to save the world from happiness, per the enigmatic logline. A concerned Seehorn takes a phone call in the first look photo (above); Apple TV+ also released a clip, titled "Happiness is Contagious," that takes cues from 2015 Ariana Grande: a woman licks a donut, then places it into a box. The series, premiering Nov. 7, has already been picked up for a second season. Starring alongside Seehorn are Karolina Wydra and Carlos-Manuel Vesga, as well as guest stars Miriam Shor and Samba Schutte. Gilligan executive produces alongside his former Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul collaborators Gordon Smith, Alison Tatlock, Diane Mercer, and Allyce Ozarski, as well as Jeff Frost, Jenn Carroll, and Trina Siopy. Gilligan last collaborated with Seehorn on Better Call Saul, the acclaimed AMC prequel series to Breaking Bad that chronicled the transformation of Bob Odenkirk's attorney Jimmy McGill to the crooked Saul Goodman. Seehorn's turn on the show, as fellow lawyer Kim Wexler, earned her two Emmy nominations throughout its six-season run between 2015 and 2022. Gilligan told Deadline earlier this year that he created the show specifically for Seehorn, teasing her character as "very different" from Kim Wexler. "She plays someone who's trying very hard to be good," he teased. "She's a bit of a damaged hero but she's a hero nonetheless. It's just a pleasure to work with her because she's just the best."In the same interview, Seehorn called the series "thought-provoking" and at times "upsetting," noting it was also "so, so funny."
