In a significant reprieve for chief minister Siddaramaiah, the Supreme Court upheld the Karnataka high court's decision to quash an Enforcement Directorate notice to his wife in the Muda case. The verdict arrives at a time when murmurs within Congress suggest an informal agreement that the CM's post should be handed over to deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar after 30 months — which concludes this Nov.
Although Siddaramaiah has publicly insisted that he will serve out a full five-year term, his detractors were reportedly banking on the Muda case to press for a reshuffle.
The Supreme Court ruling, however, has momentarily disarmed their argument.

"There were constant efforts to challenge Siddaramaiah's leadership in the backdrop of the Muda case, despite allegations against him being baseless," said BJ Vijayakumar, president, Congress' Mysuru City unit. "With the Supreme Court ruling against ED's notice, these efforts have hit a wall. It is now certain that Siddaramaiah will continue in his position without hindrance.

In BJP, state president BY Vijayendra, who is battling dissent from senior party functionaries, received a shot in the arm from the influential Panchapeetas — five key Veerashaiva-Lingayat religious institutions. At a congregation in Davanagere, the pontiffs of Ujjaini, Kedar, Rambhapuri, Srishaila, and Kashi Mutts publicly extended support to Vijayendra.
"Although BS Yediyurappa became CM four times, he could not stay at the helm for a five-year term even once," said Veera Someswara Deshikendra Shivacharya, pontiff of Balehonnur Rambhapuri Mutt.
"Vijayendra has emerged as a ray of hope. He has a bright future, and BJP will be stronger under his leadership."
Vijayendra loyalists say the endorsement from these mutts will help blunt internal discord. "There is no doubt that the party high command is convinced about Vijayendra's potential," said Shalendra Bilidale, Bidar South MLA. "While vested interests are trying to spread canards, the blessings of the Panchapeeta pontiffs show he has strong backing, especially at the event in Davanagere where adversaries tried to create trouble.

Kang becomes 1st in AAP to voice concern over Punjab's contentious land pooling policy
Chandigarh: Amid massive opposition to AAP govt's controversial land pooling policy in Punjab, AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang on Sunday advised his party's supremo, Arvind Kejriwal, and Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann to hear "objections raised by farmer unions on the policy". In a post on X on Sunday evening, Kang, who is the first AAP leader to publicly voice his concerns regarding the controversial policy, said, "Govt should move forward only after taking farmers and our farmer unions into confidence through dialogue." He called on the state govt to listen to the farmers with empathy and address their issues through meaningful dialogue. "My suggestion to @ArvindKejriwal ji and @BhagwantMann ji is that our govt has done a lot for the betterment of farmers in the last three years, such as ensuring uninterrupted power supply for agriculture, aiming to deliver canal water to every field, expediting mandi reforms, and promoting crop diversification, among other efforts. On this policy too, govt should move forward only after taking farmers and our farmer unions into confidence through dialogue," he said. Cong's cotton certification allegations misleading: Govt
NEW DELHI: Centre on Sunday refuted Congress's allegations regarding irregularities in organic cotton certification, calling the remarks unfounded and misleading. The commerce ministry said the aspersions cast against National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) were baseless and unwarranted. "Generalised allegations against a robust regulatory system of the country for a particular crop/region/group of operators only serve to undermine the credibility of legitimate regulatory institutions and the broader organic movement in India," the ministry said in a statement. Congress on Saturday demanded a court-monitored CBI probe into an alleged scam in the sale of normal cotton as organic cotton in MP. Former MP CM Digvijaya Singh alleged India's image is being hurt globally as the country has lost credibility in certification of organic products.
