Mandopop star Jay Chou has finally joined Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok.
The 46-year-old started an account on the short video platform under the name 'Classmate Chou' on July 9 at 11am.
According to the Chinese media, the number of followers exceeded one million in one hour, even though the Taiwanese singer has not posted any videos. That number jumped to more than 11 million by the afternoon of July 10.
There were rumours online on July 9 that Douyin had spent a nine-figure sum to get Chou to join, but they were refuted by the platform, reported Chinese news site Guancha.
Chou's presence on Douyin provided a boost to Star Plus Legend, a company co-founded by his mother Yeh Hui-mei and closely linked with the singer.
According to Hong Kong Economic Journal, the company's shares surged more than 1.6 times on July 9 to a high of HK$17 at one point before closing at HK$12.44.
Chou's Douyin account is his second Chinese-language social media account. In 2020, he set up an account on Chinese short video platform Kuaishou, considered a rival to Douyin. The Kuaishou account has about 48 million followers, but Chou has not updated it in more than three months.
The singer is also on Instagram and Facebook, where he has about 10.4 million and 4.3 million followers respectively. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network

Photo: Kelly Chen/Instagram Singer Remus Choy of Hong Kong pop group Grasshopper has returned to the stage on July 27, performing for the first time since his brain surgery in October 2024. Grasshopper was the guest performers at Hong Kong singer Kelly Chen's concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum. The Cantopop trio comprise, Remus Choy, 58, his brother Calvin Choy, 60, and Edmond So, 59. The Grasshopper members and Chen, who all dressed in white, performed the fast-paced songs Beat The Heat Wou Bom Ba (1993) and Open The Sky (1995). Calvin looked to be in great shape as he sang and danced on stage. Chen's concert on July 27 was the final night of her 10-show Season 2 Live In Hong Kong 2025 concert series. The show was originally scheduled to be held on July 20, but it was postponed by a week due to Typhoon Wipha. Remus said on stage that Chen, 52, was the first person to message him after he dropped a bombshell in October 2024, when he disclosed on social media that he had gone for an operation to remove a brain tumour. His post then was accompanied by two photos: a selfie of himself with a shaved head and a close-up shot of the long surgery scar on his scalp. 'Kelly said she was very worried about me and the large scar on my head broke her heart,' Remus said. 'She hoped I would recover soon and cheered me on, even complimenting me on how good I looked with a bald head.' Remus said Grasshopper has watched Chen's career progress since her debut in 1995. He added that their last collaboration was about 10 years ago, when she was a guest performer at Grasshopper's concert. The Cantopop trio also performed its new song, Lou Dik Lat (which means Old Is Spicy in Cantonese), at Chen's concert. Remus also took the opportunity to announce that they would be holding a concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum in April 2026, and would invite Chen to be its guest performer. Remus has been charting his recovery on social media since his surgery. He has shared videos of himself working out in the gym in recent months. He posted on July 22 a photo of himself in the recording studio, writing that a new song was coming soon. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network

(Video) 'Who Is Who?': PSY Shares The Stage With 'Twin' Comedian Lee Soo Ji

It's not a rare occurrence to have spotted your doppleganger, and trust us, you won't get sucked into an abyssal void when you do meet them. But what happens when your doppleganger is one of Korea's biggest entertainers? Recently, PSY shared a series of videos with his 'twin', comedian Lee Soo Ji (이수지), during his '2025 Summer Swag' festival. His most recent post shows the unmistakable duo dancing in matching outfits and hairstyles with the caption, 'Which is me?'. The feature came about after fans started pointing out the uncanny semblance of the two sometime last year. This year, PSY invited the 40-year-old comedian to take part in a special guest appearance for his '2025 Summer Swag' festival. The two also shot the opening sequence of the festival, known to have featured famous actors in the past. The resemblance broke the internet, with netizens pouring in surprised comments at how similar the two of them looked. After the interaction, Lee Soo Ji appeared on JTBC's 'Let's Eat Dinner Together' on 25th July 2025, where she talked about her experience filming the opening intro with PSY. Soo Ji states, 'I was filming a music video and was watching the monitor. I thought I was watching myself until I realised I was looking at PSY'. Host and actress Kim Hee Sun (김희선) also asked her if she had to put on any special makeup to look like PSY, to which she replied, 'I didn't have to do anything. I just needed to tie my hair back'. The iconic duo is set to reunite in PSY's '2025 Summer Swag' finale on 25th August 2025. Maybe PSY should invite little PSY from his 'Gangnam Style' MV for his next feature. (Video) F4 Reunites For 2nd Performance; Rumoured To Drop New Album & Hold Asia Tour In 2026

Following their reunion stage earlier this month, Taiwanese band F4 reunited for another performance, sparking even more rumours of a comeback. While rumours emerged that the quartet may be preparing for a concert tour, one member confirmed that new music is on its way. Earlier this month, F4 shocked fans when they reunited on stage at Taiwanese band Mayday's concert at the Taipei Arena. The performance marked the first time the group performed together on the same stage in 12 years. A few weeks later, the quartet made another appearance at Mayday's recent concert over the weekend. The second reunion sparked even more requests for a group comeback. While nothing is confirmed, rumours have now emerged that the group may hold a concert tour across Asia in 2026. The tour will celebrate the group's 25th anniversary and include stops in Taiwan, China and South Korea. F4 debuted in 2001 after the four members, Vanness Wu (吳建豪), Jerry Yan (言承旭), Vic Chou (周渝民) and Ken Chu (朱孝天), starred in the famed Taiwanese idol drama 'Meteor Garden'. The group disbanded in 2009. The group hasn't addressed the tour rumours, but member Ken Chu recently revealed that the group is working on new music. During a recent livestream, the singer accidentally revealed that F4 will release a new album soon and has recorded a few songs. Ken even shared a behind-the-scenes story from the recording session. However, before he could reveal any more secrets, his staff hurriedly stopped him from spoiling the comeback. On social media, fans express excitement over the possibility of new F4 music and a new tour. Some also hope that the tour will include more stops, especially in the Southeast Asia region. It's also worth mentioning that fans have been hoping for a F4 reunion following the devastating death of 'Meteor Garden' actress Barbie Hsu earlier this year. Some also hope the group will consider a tribute song for the late star. While nothing is confirmed yet, we do hope to see F4 reunite and go back on tour as a quartet. In the meantime, check out their recent performance at the Mayday concert: Sources: Twitter (1)(2), Yahoo! TW
