HOLIDAY HELL Brit tourist, 42, 'nearly burnt alive' in five-star Egypt resort after electric shock ran through his teeth fillings
A BRIT holidaymaker was "nearly burnt alive" in his hotel room in Egypt when an electric shock zapped through his fillings.
Steve Ellis, 42, was on a ten night getaway at the Coral Sea Imperial Sensatori hotel in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, when he was jolted so hard he flew out of bed, he said.

The unsuspecting tourist put his hand on the bed-side light and was violently "thrown to the floor".
He says that he was electrocuted for for around 15 seconds, and has been told by doctors that he "nearly burnt alive".
The current apparently ran through his teeth fillings, leaving him with a ring-shaped burn.
Steve said: "I've got fillings in my mouth so the electric was going up there - it burnt my mouth.
"If I wasn't able to get myself off the lamp, then I would have burnt alive. I'm pretty lucky.
"A child could have touched the lamp and then they wouldn't have been so lucky."
Steve says that he was getting out bed when he touched the bedside light with his left hand, which delivered the shock.
His left hand got stuck to the light, so he tried to push it away with his right hand - but that got stuck as well.
Steve, a dad-of-one, was then flung onto the floor and forced to shout for help as he was alone in the room.
He was checked over by the hotel's doctor and visited the holiday rep, who he says "wasn't that bothered" by the incident.

Steve, of Gloucester, said: "We said we wanted to make a report and he questioned it.
"He turned to my partner and wanted her to lie and say that she saw the incident, when she didn't.
"I turned to him and nearly walked out - they said it would look better for the paperwork if we lied.
"I wasn't going to lie on a document because that could come back to us."

Steve says that he didn't use the lamp before the incident but later noticed that there were wires sticking out of it.
He said: "There were wires sticking out of the lamp.
"But you wouldn't have noticed it until it happened."
Straight after the incident, which happened in January this year, Steve was left with a ring-shaped burn around his mouth.
He also had blood tests and an electrocardiogram (ECG) scan to check the electrical activity of his heart.
Steve says that his hands "feel like they are burning and tingling" constantly, so he is struggling to work as a kitchen fitter.
He said: "My hands feel like they are burning and tingling every day.
"My shoulder is in agony hurts when I lift things as well.
"I get half-way through the day and I'm in so much pain.
"I'm losing money because I'm having to come home early or have days off."

What Tui, Loveholidays and other holiday firms are saying about travelling to Greece and Turkey
The Greek Island of Rhodes was hit by a 6.2 magnitude quake, and a local mayor confirmed 69 people were also injured in Turkey. Many Scottish holidaymakers have been left concerned after popular holiday destinations were hit by an earthquake in the early hours of this morning. The Greek Island of Rhodes was hit by a 6.2 magnitude quake, and a local mayor confirmed 69 people were also injured in Turkey after jumping out of the windows of their homes. A 14-year-old girl has sadly died, Wales Online reports. The earthquake, which affected parts of Greece and Turkey, saw hotels "sway and shake really violently" as worried holiday goers woke up in the middle of the night to tremors. According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the epicentre was just outside Marmaris, a Turkish resort town, 42 miles deep at around quarter past two. The extent of damage to buildings in both Rhodes and Marmaris is currently unknown but travel companies have offered advice to tourists. Flights to and from Dalaman and Rhodes Airport are operating as usual today and The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has not yet issued any warnings for Brits travelling to Rhodes or Turkey. A message sent by TUI to a Brit tourist currently holidaying in Rhodes reads: "Dear Guests. We would like to inform you that an earthquake occurred at 02.17am with a magnitude of 6.6 on the Richter scale. "The epicenter was located approximately 18 kilometres from Rhodes, at a depth of 68 kilometers (42 miles). Local authorities are currently assessing the situation. At this time, there are no reports of significant damage or injuries. "As a precaution, please remain calm and follow any safety instructions provided by your accommodation or local officials. Should any specific action be required on your part, rest assured that we will contact you directly with further guidance. "Your safety and well-being are our top priority." Holiday company loveholidays emailed customers travelling to Rhodes later this week. They said: "We're getting in touch following the earthquake that took place in Greece and Turkey overnight. We're monitoring the situation closely and are in contact with our suppliers in Turkey. "Due to the depth of the earthquake, they believe this to be the main event. At this stage your holiday is going ahead as planned and there is no current impact to your flight. "However, we recommend keeping an eye on the status of your flight on your airline's website." The Independent's travel correspondent, Simon Calder, told tourists it was best to continue as normal, with no further action needed

Family of missing Brit in Portugal urge locals to check CCTV footage
Family of missing Brit in Portugal urge locals to check CCTV footage Greg Monks, 38, was last seen on the night of Tuesday, May 27 Greg Monks has vanished on a stag do in the party hotspot of Albufeira (Image: Facebook ) The family of a Glasgow man who disappeared during a stag do in Portugal have issued an urgent appeal for locals to check their private CCTV and doorbell footage. Greg Monks, 38, vanished after becoming separated from his friends during the first evening of their trip. He was last seen on CCTV in the residential area of Cerro de Aguia, roughly four miles away from the main club and bar strip of Albufeira, on Tuesday night where he had been enjoying the night with his mates. His last known whereabouts were between Tuesday evening, May 27, and the early hours of Wednesday morning, May 28. His sister, Jillian Monk, has now urged residents in the Cerro de Aguia area to review any footage from their private cameras and ring doorbells. The worried sister posted on a Facebook page for expats and holidaymakers asking if anyone living nearby could assist in the search for her brother, reports the Daily Record. In a further post today she asked for help contacting local Portuguese radio stations to get the word out to local taxi drivers. Article continues below Jillian also wrote: "I am now seeking help from residents of the Cerro de Aguia area to please check any home cameras or doorbell footage around 2am and 5am as police believe he was in the area around this time!". "Please share this if you know anyone in the area. If you have cameras that cover parts of the streets, send me a message with your name and phone number." Greg disappeared on the first night of the stag do (Image: Facebook ) Portuguese police, who are conducting the search, have been checking local hospitals in their efforts to locate Greg. For our free daily briefing on the biggest issues facing the nation, sign up to the Wales Matters newsletter here . Greg is said to have checked in with his mates at the Novochoro Apartments, a holiday resort with 31 units, just before he disappeared. The apartments are a mere 15-minute stroll to the main strip. However, they're about four miles from Cerro de Aguia, where Greg was last seen - and Cerro de Aguia is roughly the same distance from the strip. The stag party was scheduled to return last Saturday after arriving on Tuesday to celebrate in the popular sun-soaked destination. Jillian first sounded the alarm that Greg had gone missing in a frantic social media post on Thursday. She said: "My brother has not been seen since Tuesday evening. If you are currently there and have any information place contact me with any info." Greg's father has allegedly cut short a holiday in Spain to cross the border and look for his son. A fundraiser has also been set up to help raise money for the family who have flown out to help the search. Gillian McCallum, set up a fundraiser on behalf of the distraught family, said: "Our son Greg Monks went to Portugal for a stag do on Tuesday May 27 and on the first night back out there he never returned to his hotel and has now been missing for three days. We are desperately seeking Greg's safe return and need your help." Over £20,000 has been raised to fund the search efforts. A statement from the family said: "There are professional search teams out looking for Greg and the family have all flown out to try to help find him but don't know how long their stay will be." Article continues below They said: "They are doing everything they can. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a difference in our efforts to bring Greg home. Thank you for your support and prayers."

No chips, no bacon and no sausages… Brit gran's holiday hell as she moans Corfu resort ‘didn't have any English food'
It was local nosh or nothing for Susan Edwards and her family 'I DON'T EAT KEBABS' No chips, no bacon and no sausages… Brit gran's holiday hell as she moans Corfu resort 'didn't have any English food' A BRITISH gran's dream holiday to Corfu fell flat because her all-inclusive resort "didn't have any English food" on offer. Susan Edwards, 69, from Westerhope, Newcastle upon Tyne, vowed she'll never book with TUI again after being less than impressed with the grub on offer. They were looking forwards to a week of relaxation, but the ordeal "horrendous from the minute they got there," Susan said. After paying £750 each for the week, the sun-seekers were expecting slap-up meals and drinks on tap. But Susan told Chronicle Live: "There was no food we could eat and we couldn't have anything to drink. We had to pay €1.50 for water." Advertisement After a tiring journey - and a long ramp to reach the hotel reception - they were more than ready for food and refreshment when they arrived at around 2pm. But, to their horror, hotel staff said food would not be served to guests until 5pm. And when it finally emerged, it was a measly "one-inch square of baklava", Susan claims. But that was just the beginning of her woes. Advertisement The following day, the family discovered there was "no English food" on offer whatsoever. Instead, Susan said: "On a morning you could have toast, a hard-boiled egg, or something in sauce." Moment Brit passenger hauled off Ryanair flight heading to Corfu after mid-air brawl as plane forced to divert to Italy She continued: "For breakfast there was mozzarella and sliced tomatoes. There was no hot bacon or sausage." If there's one thing you expect wherever you go in the world, it's a plate of chips. Advertisement But not so at the Lido Corfu Sun Hotel. Susan told the site: "We got chips one day. One day out of the whole lot. "There was fish, sardines and rice - I was sick to death of looking at rice. 5 All Susan wanted was a hot sausage or bacon Credit: Susan Edwards/NCJ MEDIA Advertisement 5 Susan's nightmare played out at the Lido Corfu Sun Hotel Credit: NCJ MEDIA "There was pasta and salads, none of this was marked [labelled]. One night there was a Greek night and they had kebabs, I couldn't eat that. "It's the worst holiday I've ever been on." There are some foods Susan can't eat because she has ulcerative colitis. Advertisement And she didn't fair any better on the drinks front. The all-inclusive drinks were wine, lager, ouzo, or brandy. Susan would plump for a Bacardi and Coke, but her only option was to pay €9 for a knock-off brand. She said: "By the time we paid £750 for the holiday, €70 tourist tax for me and my daughter and an extra £450 for both of our meals, I could have been to the Caribbean on that." Advertisement It was thumbs down for the hotel's facilities as well. Susan said there was no entertainment as the site, which is "stuck in the middle of nowhere", and the 150-yard trek down to the private beach was too steep to navigate. The family has travelled with TUI plently of times, usually to Spain, and they had always been reassured by the firm's experience in curating trips. But after the Corfu cock-up, Susan doesn't think she can stick with the company. Advertisement They offered her £100 in holiday vouchers - but Susan claims some people were offered more after complaining and declined the olive branch. A TUI UK & I Spokesperson said: "Our priority is to ensure customers have the best possible holiday experience, so we are sorry to hear that Mrs Edwards felt dissatisfied with her holiday. We have been in touch directly with Mrs Edwards to come to a resolution."
