Two Breon Allen murder suspects linked to second Jacksonville killing, police said
Two of the men charged in the January shooting death of a 7-year-old Jacksonville boy, have been linked to the death of a Jacksonville woman a year earlier, police said.
Dannel Larkins, 21, and Keith Johnson, 21, are two of six suspects in the January 14 shooting death of Breon Allen.
Jacksonville police said Tuesday the two men are also connected to the April 22, 2024 shooting death of 43-year-old Valondia Norris.

Norris was found lying on the curb in a parking lot in the Charter Point area, police said. Larkin is facing a murder charge in Norris' death and Johnson, accessory after the fact and tampering with evidence, police said.
Breon was walking with his cousin, 21-year-old Lafayette Mango Jr., on Commonwealth Avenue, when gunshots were fired towards them. Police said the drive-by shooting was 'gang-related' and Mango was the intended target.
Also charged in the child's killing are Donte McGhee, Tavaris Kelly, both 17, Keith Fields, 18, and Zharod Sykes, 21.

Landscape supervisor turned hero: Man helps over 2 dozen people, pets escape apartment fire
They say not all heroes wear capes, and that is exactly the case with Cornelius Rainey. The people he helped save from a burning apartment complex in Hyde Park on Wednesday night agree. The Landscape supervisor was visiting his family at Riverbank Apartments on Wednesday, June 4, when he quickly realized something was wrong. 'I looked to the left and see fire, flames shooting out the building,' said Rainey. 'That's when I went and helped everyone out of their apartment.' >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< Around 4:45 pm Wednesday, JFRD responded to a fire at Riverbank apartments in Hyde Park. JFRD said the fire originated in a bedroom inside one of the apartments. The fire quickly spread to the attic, and as a result of that, JFRD told me they told JEA to cut the power off for the entire building. The state fire marshal is currently investigating the cause of the fire. Without hesitating, Rainey said he ran inside the burning building and began banging on residents' doors, telling them it was time to go. 'I was trying to kick people's doors in, burglary style, but it wasn't flying open,' said Rainey. 'And the doors that I didn't get opened, kicked in, it was people actually in those apartments, too.' [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks] Rainey tells me he helped get 15 people and 3 dogs out of the burning building, including an elderly woman in a wheelchair. 'I was knocking on their door. It wouldn't open; I opened the door. She was sitting in the living room. Her husband was trying to get her out. And I just grabbed him. I said 'Move, man. I got her, I got her,' said Rainey. 'I grabbed her and rolled her out. And that's how she got out there.' I asked Rainey why he decided to run into that building. He said it was instinct. 'I just care about people. I was just helping everybody. I couldn't leave them in there. The building was shooting fire, like real big flames,' said Rainey. Rainey told me everyone he helped was extremely grateful to him, and he was just happy that everyone was safe. The Red Cross said it assisted a total of 34 individuals displaced by this fire. In addition, there are also other people displaced. Jackson was on her way back home from work on Wednesday when she got a call telling her apartment building was on fire and she needed to evacuate. 'When I walked up, I just see this black apartment complex,' said Jackson. 'I just moved in literally I haven't been here for not even a month yet. And everything I work hard for is ruined.' I spoke with Riverbank Apartment's Property Manager about what they are doing to help residents during this time. They told me everyone who was impacted by the fire can access their units, but they need to obtain an access pass through the city, which they have available if residents contact them. INVESTIGATES: Florida's $5,000 police recruiting bonuses likely seeing a major funding cut this year
Action News Jax is investigating how a recruitment tool touted by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to help get more cops on the street could be at risk. Lawmakers appear poised to slash funding for the $5,000 recruitment bonuses nearly in half, despite statistics obtained by Action News Jax showing they appear to have had a major impact in recent years. DeSantis has been touring the state since 2022, handing the checks to new law enforcement officers who join the force. More than 7,800 of those bonuses have been awarded to date. The bonus program got $17 million last year. This year, DeSantis asked for $20 million, but budget negotiations between the House and Senate don't seem to be coming close to that ask. 'I feel very strongly about making sure that we continue this program,' State Senator Nick DiCeglie (R-St. Petersburg) said. DiCeglie is tasked with negotiating the funding in the Senate. Initially, neither the House or Senate budget included funding for the bonus program. Now, the Senate and House are both pitching funding the program at $10 million, half of what DeSantis sought and $7 million below last year's funding level. 'And hopefully we can, you know, kind of put some of the politics to the side here and really focus on making sure our communities are safe,' DiCeglie said. DiCeglie credits the bonuses with helping attract and recruit new officers to Florida from other states. Statistics from the Florida Department of Commerce seem to back that up. According to those statistics, Florida has added more than 9,200 patrol officers statewide since 2019, which is the largest raw increase in the country. Florida's increase was three times larger than the state that added the second highest number of new officers, Texas, which added just shy of 3,400 officers. DiCeglie argued Florida increasing its police force by nearly 24 percent since 2019 officers has helped bring crime down across the state. In Jacksonville, the city saw the fewest number of murders in three decades last year. Clay County deputy fired after investigation of missing cash from man he arrested
A Clay County deputy is out of a job after being accused of stealing $4,000 during an arrest. Action News Jax reported last month about accusations filed following the arrest of Willie Davis Jr. in September. He said deputies seized $6,900 from him when he was arrested. Davis' attorney said when he picked up his belongings, some of that money had disappeared. Jail records show only $2,900 was put in Davis' account. Clay authorities confirmed that deputy has been fired. 'We hold all of our deputies and employees to the highest standards and this probationary deputy failed to meet those standards,' Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook said.
