Multi-car crash in Fillmore turns fatal
A two-vehicle crash in Fillmore left a woman and a child dead and four more injured the night of July 2.
The crash occurred near the intersection of Highway 126 and D Street around 8:45 p.m., said Ventura County Sheriff's Capt. Jason Karol. The stretch of highway is also called Ventura Street within Fillmore city limits.
An initial investigation found that two vehicles collided head on in the westbound lanes of the highway west of D Street, according to a sheriff's office news release.
A 28-year-old Oxnard woman was pronounced dead at the scene, sheriff's officials said. Five more people were treated at the site and transported to local hospitals, including a 5-year-old Fillmore boy who was later pronounced dead.
The identity of the woman and child are being withheld pending notification of next of kin, sheriff's officials said.
The California Highway Patrol along with the California Department of Transportation assisted with traffic as deputies investigated the crash.

New Jersey police lieutenant suspected in Franklin murder-suicide, sources say
A New Jersey State Police lieutenant fatally shot two people before killing himself, law enforcement sources said Monday. Police investigating the murder-suicide in Franklin Township said officers found the victims' dead in a home in the Pittstown section. Authorities said 33-year-old Lauren Semanchik and 29-year-old Tyler Webb were found dead from apparent gunshot wounds Friday afternoon when police arrived at the home on Upper Kingtown Road. Phil Murphy's office released the statement, "We are shocked and devastated by this horrific tragedy. Boy, 10, dies after being hit by vehicle in Montgomery, Illinois, police say
A 10-year-old boy is dead after being hit by a vehicle last Thursday in Montgomery, Illinois. Montgomery police said just before 8 p.m., officers responded to the area of Route 30 and Horseman Trail. They said the initial call came in as a cardiac arrest, but officers were alerted to a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. The vehicle was traveling westbound on Route 30 when it hit the boy crossing the street northbound in the 1900 block of Baseline Road. Fatal stabbing in East San Jose follows early-morning fight
A fight in a parking lot in San Jose early Monday morning led to a fatal stabbing, police said. The San Jose Police Department said in a press release that it received a call at about 2:33 a.m. of a fight in a parking lot on Story Road between Adrian Way and Jackson Avenue in East San Jose. When officers arrived, they found a man who had been stabbed at least once and was not conscious or breathing, police said. Medics arrived and pronounced the man dead at the scene. The unknown suspect fled the scene before officers arrived, police said. The Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner withheld the victim's identity until family members were notified. The incident was being investigated as the city's 17th homicide of 2025.
