Cameron Young runs away with Wyndham Championship to claim first PGA Tour win

It was only a matter of time before Cam Young won on the PGA Tour. Though he's been in the mix plenty of times lately, he left absolutely no doubt at Sedgefield Country Club on Sunday. Young, after briefly building up a massive eight-shot lead, cruised to a dominant six-shot win at the Wyndham Championship. It marked his inaugural Tour win after seven runner-up finishes in his career and four top-10 outings already this season. The win also earned him a $1.48 million check, which was part of an $8.2 million purse. Young is now the 1,000th unique winner in PGA Tour history, too. Young entered the final round with a five-shot lead already, thanks to his bogey-free 5-under 65 on Saturday. He grabbed an eight-shot lead at one point on Moving Day, too, after rattling off four straight birdies on his front nine. While he opened with a bogey on Sunday after leaving his approach on the first just shy of the green, Young made up for it immediately. He made five straight birdies and reclaimed his eight-shot lead once again without any issue whatsoever. Young made the turn at 4-under for the day, and saved his par at the ninth with a huge approach from the thick rough right next to the cart path. Though Young stumbled a bit at the end — he bogeyed the par-3 16th after missing an up-and-down par save, and then he made a second straight bogey at the 17th — it didn't matter one bit. He posted his final round 68 and rolled to the win. Mac Meissner finished alone in second at 16-under, and Mark Hubbard and Alex Noren tied for third at 15-under on the week. Matti Schmid finished T31 with his 1-over final round, which moved him to No. 70 in the FedExCup standings. He's the last man into the Tour's postseason and will get to compete in next week's FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis as a result. Davis Thompson, however, is the first man out. He went 2-under on Sunday, and even drained a 47-footer for a birdie late in the day to move inside the top-70. Thompson, though, ended up falling back out to No. 71. Young entered the week at No. 44 in the Official World Golf Rankings and was already a lock for the FedExCup Playoffs. But his win on Sunday will jump him up to No. 16 in the FedExCup standings, which is enough to send him through to the season-ending Tour Championship, and to No. 21 in the OWGR. It's also going to move him to No. 15 in the Ryder Cup standings. He started the week at No. 19 with no path to move into an automatic bid spot — only the top six qualify for the U.S. Team that way — but Young is now undoubtedly in the mix to earn a captain's pick to make the team, especially if he can keep this push going through the first two rounds of the playoffs. But regardless of whether or not he's representing the Americans next month or not, Young finally has a Tour win under his belt.

FedExCup Playoffs: PGA Tour's postseason field is set after Cameron Young's win at the Wyndham Championship

The PGA Tour's regular season is officially over. Cameron Young wrapped up the year with a dominant six-shot win at the Wyndham Championship on Sunday. That marked his inaugural Tour win, and made him the 1,000th unique winner in Tour history. Now all eyes will turn to the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, which marks the first of three playoffs events. The top 70 golfers in the standings after the Wyndham Championship earned entry into the postseason. Then after the first stop, the top 50 golfers in the standings will earn a spot in the BMW Championship the following week. Those who make it that far will also earn an automatic entry into the eight signature events on Tour next season. From there, the top 30 will qualify for the Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta. That tournament is set to kick off on Aug. 21, and will feature a traditional start this season, rather than the staggered starting strokes format it's used in the past. Though not everyone on Tour will actually compete in Memphis — Rory McIlroy is skipping that event, for example — the race for the FedExCup is now on. Here's a look at where things stand entering TPC Southwind, and who needs to make a big move to keep their postseason hopes alive for more than just a single week. FedExCup standings: Top 10 As of Sunday, August 3 The top 10 changed slightly after the Wyndham Championship, but Scottie Scheffler still holds a commanding lead. Position Name Points 1 Scottie Scheffler 4,806 2 Rory McIlroy 3,444 3 Sepp Straka 2,595 4 Russell Henley 2,391 5 Justin Thomas 2,280 6 Ben Griffin 2,275 7 Harris English 2,232 8 JJ Spaun 2,144 9 Tommy Fleetwood 1,738 10 Keegan Bradley 1,749 FedExCup standings: Just inside the bubble As of Sunday, August 3 Before play kicks off in Tennessee, this group is into the second event already. But a bad week for right on the cusp, like Jordan Spieth, Wyndham Clark and Si Woo Kim, would take them out of the running quickly. Position Name Points 41 Matt Fitzpatrick 1,017 42 Xander Schauffele 953 43 Aldrch Potgieter 941 44 Harry Hall 929 45 Akshay Bhatia 909 46 Si Woo Kim 882 47 Jake Knapp 871 48 Jordan Spieth 865 49 Wyndham Clark 853 50 Min Woo Lee 851 FedExCup standings: Outside looking in As of Sunday, August 3 This group needs to at least make the weekend in Memphis, if not pick up a very impressive finish, in order to keep their postseason hopes alive and make it into the BMW Championship. J.T. Poston, though, is roughly a point back from Lee. If anyone is going to pull off a move here, he's in the best spot to do it. Position Name Points 51 J.T. Poston 850 52 Kurt Kitayama 842 53 Bud Cauley 831 54 Joe Highsmith 828 55 Aaron Rai 811 56 Jhonattan Vegas 782 57 Max Greyserman 768 58 Stephan Jaeger 726 59 Mackenzie Hughes 704 60 Tony Finau 690 61 Chris Kirk 682 62 Nico Echavarria 672 63 Patrick Rodgers 668 64 Rickie Fowler 665 65 Davis Riley 652 66 Kevin Yu 645 67 Emiliano Grillo 637 68 Erik van Rooyen 634 69 Cam Davis 625 70 Matti Schmid 620

Diddy's Ex-Girlfriend Writes Letter to Judge in Support of Bail Before Sentencing: ‘I Do Not View Mr. Combs as a Danger'

Sean 'Diddy' Combs' ex-girlfriend Virginia 'Gina' Huynh, who was referred to as 'Victim-3' in his indictment, has written a letter to the judge presiding over his federal case in support of his release on bail before his sentencing in October. Huynh was referenced several times in the government's indictment of Combs, though she never ended up testifying in his trial. Huynh's note was included in a letter sent on Sunday by Combs' legal team, who claim that the government argued that Combs was 'violent toward Virginia 'Gina' Huynh.' Huynh wrote that 'he has not been violent for many years, and he has been committed to being a father first.' 'This is his first criminal case. Throughout the investigation and proceedings he has been cooperative, respectful and compliant. He has substantial ties to his family and community, including children who depend on him for emotional and financial support. Granting him bond would allow him to continue caring for his family and fulfilling his responsibilities while still subject to the Court's supervision.' She supported Combs' pre-sentencing release by assuring the court that he would adhere to 'all conditions imposed' and 'will not jeopardize his freedom or the well-being of his family.' 'Our relationship, like many, was not always perfect, we experienced ups and downs, and mistakes were made but he was willing to acknowledge his mistakes and make better decisions in the future,' she wrote. 'Over the years that followed he made visible efforts to become a better person and to address the harm he had caused. By the time our relationship ended, he embodied an energy of love, patience and gentleness that was markedly different from his past behavior. To my knowledge, he has not been violent for many years, and he has been committed to being a father first.' In its indictment, the government accused Combs of using 'force, threats of force, and coercion, to cause victims, including but not limited to three female victims' — referred to as Victim-1, Victim-2 and Victim-3 — 'to engage in commercial sex acts. In connection with the commercial sex acts, Combs provided the victims with, among other things, monetary payments, career opportunities, and payments of rent and housing expenses.' During Combs' trial, according to CNN, his former assistant George Kaplan testified that he once saw Combs throwing apples at Huynh in his Miami home. Casandra 'Cassie' Ventura, a key witness in the case, also testified that Combs was unfaithful to her by dating Gina while they were together. Combs is currently incarcerated while awaiting his sentencing, set for October 3, on two counts of transportation for prostitution. His legal team has revived its attempts to get Combs out of prison before sentencing and has been engaged in a back-and-forth with the government, arguing over his eligibility for bail.
