As per the GMRL, the metro corporation has not been allocated any land for property development presently but it was crucial to develop commerical projects along the alignment to improve and ensure the financial viability of the project through multiple revenue streams. 'It has been decided that GMRL will reach out to the Haryana government and request for allocation of suitable land parcels along the metro corridor for property development and commercial utilisation to support the long-term sustainability of the project. It has also been decided to seek a share in the transit-orented development (TOD) benefits, arising from increased land value and development potential along the metro corridor,' said the GMRL official.
Earlier in March this year, the metro corporation had held a detailed meeting with real estate developers and consultants to seek their views point regarding commercial development of properties and to understand how transit oriented developed had worked out for existing real estate projects in the city.
During the meeting, the metro authorities had sought inputs on how to maximise the alternative revenue sources of Gurugram metro theough property development opportunities at stations, station naming rights, advertising or land based fiscal tools such as land value capture. 'We also wanted to know from the developers regarding the TOD projects in Gurugram by the stakeholders and how they have enhanced project/ property value by catalysing the TOD Zone and enhanced revenue generation,' a senior GMRL official said.
GMRL is the special purpose vehicle of the Haryana government which is executing the Gurugram metro extension project form Millennium City Centre metro station to Cyber Hub. The ₹ 5,452 crore metro project will cover a total distance of 28.5 kilometres and have 27 elevated stations.

First look of Tesla Mumbai showroom, set to launch on July 15

Elon Musk's Tesla is set to make its physical debut in India with the launch of its first showroom in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex on July 15, according to a report by Reuters. The Mumbai facility, described as an 'experience centre,' will be Tesla's first official store in the country. In March this year, the company signed a lease deal for the showroom, Reuters reported, signalling its plans to begin local sales operations. Alongside this, Tesla has ramped up hiring and initiated scouting for showroom locations in both Mumbai and New Delhi. The vehicles were declared at ₹2.77 million (around $31,988) each, with additional import duties exceeding ₹2.1 million per unit due to India's 70% tariff on fully built imported cars. However, despite this milestone, the EV maker is reportedly not planning to manufacture in India anytime soon. Tesla is entering India with retail plans only, Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy said, ruling out manufacturing for now.(HT Photo) 'Tesla, we are not actually expected from them, they are only to start showrooms. They are not interested in manufacturing in India,' Union Minister for Heavy Industries HD Kumaraswamy told ANI last month. Tesla's India plans are currently focused on setting up retail infrastructure rather than local production, underscoring a cautious start in one of the world's largest emerging EV markets. No special treatment for Tesla, says government Tesla's India entry comes after prolonged negotiations over tariff concessions. CEO Elon Musk had said in April last year that his visit to India was delayed due to Tesla's "heavy obligations." The company had sought steep duty exemptions—up to 70% for cars under $40,000 and 100% for pricier models. However, earlier this year, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal made it clear that India would not tweak its policies to favour a single automaker. 'The government aims to attract all global EV manufacturers, not just Tesla,' Goyal said, adding that policy frameworks will be designed to foster a robust electric vehicle ecosystem that reduces carbon emissions and cuts oil imports, reported news agency PTI. Tesla's push into India comes amid declining sales in key markets such as Europe and China.

Ludhiana: Nod to Bhamian road fuel station violates norms: Dealers' association

Several petrol pump dealers in Ludhiana have raised their concerns over alleged irregularities in the issuance of a no-objection certificate (NOC) for a proposed petrol pump on Bhamian Road, Kuliawal. The operators, under the banner of the Petrol Pump Dealers' Association, Punjab, have sought intervention from local authorities, demanding cancellation of the NOC and an immediate halt to the ongoing work at the site. The dealers argued that permitting a fuel station on such a narrow road poses a serious risk to both traffic movement and public safety. (HT Photo) In a formal letter submitted to the municipal corporation and the deputy commissioner's office, the dealers have called for the withdrawal of the NOC, which was reportedly issued on May 26 to the regional general manager of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) for setting up a retail outlet at the Bhamian road. The dealers alleged that the site violates several regulatory norms. According to them, the road adjacent to the proposed outlet measures only 27.5 feet in width while the minimum required width for setting up a petrol pump is 60 feet, as mandated under Clause 4.19(iv) of the Town Planning Wing of the Department of Local Government's notification dated December 31, 2019. They argued that permitting a fuel station on such a narrow road poses a serious risk to both traffic movement and public safety. Jatinder Singh, a member of the association, further highlighted that the site is located in a densely populated residential area. He noted that this significantly increases the risk of accidents and fire hazards due to the proximity of flammable materials to houses. He added that the movement of fuel tankers in such a congested space could lead to bottlenecks and potentially hazardous situations. The agitated dealers have urged the authorities to immediately halt all ongoing construction at the site, revoke the NOC and conduct a thorough inquiry into how it was granted despite clear legal and safety violations. When contacted, additional deputy commissioner Rakesh Kumar said,' The dealers have registered their complaint with us and we are looking into the matter. After verifying these claims with the concerned branch, we will take a required action accordingly.'
