India's growth story: New technologies to shape future; Piyush Goyal highlights boost to startup ecosystem
Speaking at an IIT Madras Alumni Association's Sangam 2025 event in Chennai, Goyal said, "Your science, your technology, combined with this vibrant startup ecosystem, R&D, and innovation, will shape the India growth story of the future.
"
He highlighted the shift in India's role in the global economy, from a nation known for seeking jobs to one that is now creating them.
'Of course, in some small measures, we have tried to be part of the startup ecosystem, the startup fund of funds, and various other initiatives to support the startup ecosystem, coupled with the work organisations like IIT Madras have done,' PTI quoted the minister.
The minister said that India is preparing for the future with policies that support the use of cutting-edge technology, especially in fields such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, quantum computing, and data analytics.
"We don't shy away from new technologies. We believe these technologies will help us as we climb the growth chart. Absorbing these technologies in our activities—in manufacturing, businesses, and the service sector—is holding us in good stead, helping us become the fastest-growing large economy in the world," Goyal said.
He also noted that India continues to grow and engage internationally even as global trade slows down.
Later in the day, Goyal also held a discussion with industry leaders, startups, and deeptech innovators, joined by Karnataka's Minister for Commerce, Industries and Infrastructure, M B Patil. He spoke about the need to simplify rules and speed up processes around patents and trademarks to support businesses better.
He also outlined major government initiatives aimed at encouraging innovation, including the Rs 10,000 crore Fund of Funds for Startups to support early and growth-stage deeptech ventures, and the Rs 1 lakh crore R&D and Innovation (RDI) Scheme, which provides long-term, low-cost capital through a dedicated Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV).
Goyal praised the strength of India's economy in bouncing back after COVID-19, driven by innovation, entrepreneurship, and strong policy support.
He also pointed to the rising global demand for 'Made in India' products, saying that better quality, design, and competitiveness across sectors such as electronics, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and textiles show India's growing strength.
The minister concluded by reaffirming the Centre's commitment to inclusive, innovation-led growth and to building a globally competitive industry in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.

Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi has said that the 50th anniversary of the Emergency declared in the country by the then Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi is being observed to sensitise the next generation to the dark days of democracy in the country's history. He was speaking at a 'Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha' and remembrance of the 50th year of the struggle during Emergency organised by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Dharwad on Sunday evening. 'Emergency was imposed on June 25, 1975 by Indira Gandhi who ruled for 21 months without Constitutional and moral authority. During that time, protests were suppressed, many protestors were imprisoned and several people lost their lives,' he said. 'Indira Gandhi was accused of misusing her power during the elections by Raj Narain who took the matter to court. Justice H.R. Khanna of the Allahabad High Court delivered the verdict in that case. That judgment copy is not available anymore,' he said. Mr. Joshi said that while the former Prime Minister late Jawaharlal Nehru initiated the first Constitutional amendment, his daughter Indira Gandhi later made several amendments, including Articles 38, 39, and 42. He said that having imposed Emergency on the people and making them suffer, the Congress is now claiming that the Constitution is in danger. The Union Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country has developed immensely in the last 11 years and become the fourth largest economy in the world. The former judge S.H. Mittalkod presided over the event. Hubballi-Dharwad Mayor Jyoti Patil, the former MLAs Amrut Desai and Seema Masuti and a host of municipal councillors and BJP leaders were persent.

Noida Airport Sets New Launch Timeline: Domestic Flights From Sept 15, Full Rollout By November 2025 After Delays
Noida International Airport Jewar: Noida International Airport is now set to begin domestic flights and cargo operations in September 2025, with international services expected to follow by November 2025. The announcement was made by Uttar Pradesh Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi. This marks the third delay in the airport's scheduled launch since its foundation stone was laid in November 2021 — will be completed by November this year. However, the airport was first expected to be completed by September 2024. However, the deadline was moved to April 2025, and then delayed again to May–June due to incomplete work on the terminal building. In March, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath set new targets — May 15 for starting domestic flights and June 25 for international operations. Jewar Airport's Phases Costs The Noida airport in Jewar is being built in four phases with an investment of Rs 29,650 crore. The first phase, costing Rs 10,056 crore, is designed to cater to 12 million passengers annually. It will have one runway and one terminal building. By the fourth phase, the airport is expected to become operational in 2040. The airport will have the capacity to handle 70 million passengers annually. Second Major Commercial Airport Once finished, the 1,334-hectare Noida airport will be the second major commercial airport in the National Capital Region, after Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. Right now, the only other functioning airport in the NCR is Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad, which runs a few commercial flights under the control of the Indian Air Force.
