Mahindra Racing Retains Third Spot In 2025 Formula E: Tokyo E-Prix
Mahindra Racing faced a challenging weekend at the 2025 Tokyo E-Prix, managing to score only eight points across two races. Despite being in contention for podium finishes, the team held onto third place in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship teams' standings.
In Round 8, heavy rain led to the cancellation of qualifying, with the grid set based on Free Practice 2 times. Mahindra's focus on one-lap performance paid off, placing Edoardo Mortara second and Nyck de Vries fifth on the grid. However, the race saw Maserati's Stoffel Vandoorne claim victory, with Mortara finishing sixth and de Vries eleventh.
Round 9 saw Nissan's Oliver Rowland secure a home victory, extending his lead in the drivers' championship. Rowland made a strong recovery in the second race, which was held in dry conditions. He fell to P6 after using Attack Mode, which was later than the other drivers. However, he timed his second Attack Mode perfectly, allowing him to move up to P2 behind race leader Pascal Wehrlein.
Rowland still had 40 seconds of Attack Mode left when Wehrlein lost his boost. This set up a close battle on the track, with Rowland ultimately winning. Dan Ticktum finished in third place, achieving his first podium finish in Formula E.
Mahindra's drivers faced challenges, De Vries finished P8 on track but was handed a 5-second time penalty for contact with Mitch Evans, which dropped him to P11.
Rowland has achieved his fourth win of the season and now leads Wehrlein by 77 points in the championship. Wehrlein's teammate at Porsche, Antonio Felix da Costa, is in third place, 11 points behind him.
In the team's championship, Nissan was in first place with a 15-point lead over Porsche. Mahindra is in third, 58 points behind Porsche, while McLaren is fourth, just nine points behind Mahindra.
