● Talented women can apply for a €20,000 international award.
Orange Egypt has announced the opening of applications for the 15th edition of the Orange Social Venture Prize (OSVP) in 2025. The competition, with a total prize fund of €70,000, recognizes enterprises and startups that use technical innovation to find novel solutions to societal concerns. This demonstrates Orange's commitment to supporting entrepreneurship and contributing to social and economic development by incentivizing technical innovation focused at producing solutions that effect good change at the community and environmental levels.
The competition is divided into two phases. The first is the local phase, during which Orange Egypt will accept proposals from companies willing to participate in the competition platform via the URL (https://poesam.optimytool.com/en) until May 18, 2025. Then, a jury made up of entrepreneurial leaders and cadres, as well as Orange executives, will review the proposals and pick three winning local firms to advance to the competition's international round. They will compete against other qualifiers from different nations for three prizes for the top three winners: €25,000 for first place, €15,000 for second place, and €10,000 for third place.
For the fifth consecutive year, the competition has awarded a grand prize to female entrepreneurs to enhance women's participation in entrepreneurship in the region and to highlight Orange's commitment to supporting talented women in establishing startups and providing them with the necessary support to continue their journey and contribute to the development of their communities. Each local competition will pick up to three female-led or co-founded businesses to compete for the €20,000 "International Women's Prize".
For her part, Maha Nagy, Chief Communications Officer Orange Egypt, emphasized that Orange's 15-year commitment to organizing the competition demonstrates its belief in the importance of technological innovation and entrepreneurship in addressing societal challenges, as well as its belief in startups' ability to positively impact society.
She went on to say, "In view of the fast advancements in the technology industry and entrepreneurship, Orange is dedicated to offering a platform for financing and technical assistance for new initiatives that use technology to enhance society and the environment. We are proud of our competition's long history of supporting sustainable development and helping to create new solutions that improve people's lives in their communities".

Crystal Palace loses appeal against demotion by UEFA to Conference League - World

Crystal Palace lost its appeal at sport's highest court on Monday against demotion to the third-tier Conference League because of breaching UEFA rules on club ownership with American investor John Textor. The Court of Arbitration for Sport said its judges dismissed the English cup winner's request to stay in the more lucrative second-tier Europa League in a case that also involved Premier League rival Nottingham Forest and French club Lyon. Forest and Lyon are confirmed taking entries directly into the Europa League in September and Palace must start in the Conference League qualifying playoffs round next week. UEFA demoted Palace because Textor had a 43% ownership stake last season while also owning Lyon. Palace missed a March deadline set by UEFA to solve the potential issue. CAS said its judges decided Textor 'was a board member with decisive influence over both clubs at the time of UEFA's assessment date.' Slot seeks Liverpool balance for Premier League defence - World

Liverpool boss Arne Slot said his side are conceding too often if they are to defend the Premier League title after losing the Community Shield on penalties to Crystal Palace on Sunday. The new-look Reds, after a £260 million ($350 million) spending spree in the transfer market, looked slick in attack at Wembley with new signings Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong on target. However, the Reds twice failed to hold onto the lead as Palace levelled through Jean-Philippe Mateta's penalty and Ismaila Sarr's strike 13 minutes from time as the match ended 2-2 before the shootout. Last season Liverpool beat Palace 1-0 at Selhurst Park and drew 1-1 on the final day of the season at Anfield as they romped to the title with four games to spare. Slot saw flashes of what his star-studded forward line are capable of as the most expensive of his new recruits, Florian Wirtz, teed up Ekitike for the opening goal after just four minutes. However, in keeping with the pattern of Liverpool's pre-season friendlies, they were cut open with ease on the counter-attack. AC Milan beat Slot's men 4-2 in Hong Kong, while Liverpool edged out Athletic Bilbao 3-2 in one of two friendlies against the Basques on their return to Anfield on Monday. "If you look at our attacking play against a team that is so compact, that might be a bit better than last season," said Slot. "We only could score one goal against Palace (last season). Now we scored two and created more against them. "But, on the other hand, we conceded two goals, which we did against Bilbao, and we conceded a couple more against Milan, so that is something we need to do better." Only Arsenal had a better defensive record than Liverpool in the Premier League last season and Slot is keen to rectify his side's issues before they begin their title defence at home to Bournemouth on Friday. "We are able to create more but we are conceding at the moment more as well. If you want to compete to win the league, you cannot concede these chances. "We conceded too much today to win the game." Liverpool's spending in the transfer market may not be over as they continue to be linked with a move for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. However, Slot dismissed the claim that the transfer spending will put his players under more pressure this season. "Because we are Liverpool the pressure is always on," he said. "That is nothing to do with brining players in." (For more sports news and updates, follow Ahram Online Sports on Twitter at @AO_Sports and on Facebook at AhramOnlineSports.) TikTok Launches 'Footnotes' Feature in US

Taarek Refaat TikTok has rolled out a new feature called 'Footnotes' in the United States for the first time, giving users the ability to add explanatory notes that provide context to videos. The tool allows creators to clarify complex topics, such as breaking down scientific concepts, adding updated statistics to an ongoing news story, or even choosing whether comments appear alongside the video. The move draws comparisons to community fact-checking tools already in use on other platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram. X pioneered the concept in 2021 under the name 'Birdwatch,' which continued after Elon Musk's 2022 takeover. Octavio Vinhas, a researcher at Brazil's National Institute for Science and Technology in Conflicts and Information Sovereignty, said the initiative aligns with U.S. President Donald Trump's more liberal vision of free expression on social media. However, he noted that TikTok's Footnotes differ from X's approach, as TikTok still prompts users to cite sources for their notes, something not required on X. Scott Hale, associate professor at the Oxford Internet Institute, explained that the main challenge for all social media companies is ensuring that the right people see these notes. Platforms typically use similarity-based ranking systems, comparing what content a user receives with that of others, as well as accounts followed or videos watched. The algorithm also exposes content to users deemed 'different' from the note's author to test its usefulness. Only notes passing this evaluation appear publicly. But according to Vinhas, most notes never reach an audience. A June study by the Digital Democracy Institute of the Americas (DDIA) found that over 90% of the 1.7 million English- and Spanish-language notes in X's public database had never been published online. While the average time to publish notes dropped to 14 days in 2025, down from 100 days in 2022, delays still persist. Hale added that discovering notes that challenge a user's perspective remains difficult, given social media's tendency to reinforce existing beliefs. 'It's very easy to lock ourselves into parts of networks that are similar to us,' he said. One potential improvement, Hale suggested, would be making notes interactive, similar to Wikipedia's model, where contributors have their own pages showcasing their edits. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results
