443-foot ship finally pulled free after nearly hitting Norway home as owner slept: "It's time to say goodbye"
A Ukrainian sailor in his 30s was on watch at the time and said he had fallen asleep, according to Norwegian police, who have charged him with "negligent navigation."
The 443-foot NCL Salten sailed up onto shore just a stone's throw from a wooden house around dawn on Thursday.
"It's good to have said hello, but now it's time to say goodbye" the occupant of the house, Johan Helberg, told broadcaster NRK on Tuesday.

The containers on the ship, except for those removed to lighten the bow, are still on board and will be unloaded this evening, Ole T. Bjornevik, the managing director of BOA Offshore told AFP, adding that the operation only lasted 30 minutes and an inspection is underway
"This went better than expected," he told NRK. "This went beyond all expectations."
The Ukrainian seaman has said none of the cargo ship's collision alarms had worked, prosecutor Kjetil Bruland Sorensen told news agency NTB.
The investigation will also look into whether the rules on working hours and rest periods were adhered to on ship, according to police.

Helberg, also slept through the incident and only discovered the unexpected visitor when a panicked neighbor rang his doorbell and called him on the phone.
"The doorbell rang at a time of day when I don't like to open," Helberg told television channel TV2.
The ship reportedly caused damage to a heating pipe in Helberg's cabin, TV2 reported, but the homeowner said he considered himself lucky.
"If the ship had hit the rocky cliff right next to it, it would have lifted up and hit the house hard," he told TV2. "It wasn't many meters off."
None of the 16 crew members were injured.
Bente Hetland, the CEO of the shipping company that owns NCL Salten, told TV2 that the same ship ran aground twice before — once in 2023 in Hadsel and again in 2024, in Ålesund.

Woman killed by falling tree branch ‘while walking with child' in country park
A young woman has died after being hit by a falling branch in a park. The woman, in her 30s, was struck by the branch near the Buncer Lane entrance of Blackburn's Witton Country Park, Lancashire, just after 8.30pm on Monday. Paramedics rushed to the park shortly after she was hit but she died shortly afterwards, according to Lancashire Police. According to local reports, the woman was walking with a child at the time. A council statement said: 'Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council is deeply saddened to confirm that a member of the public has tragically died following an incident in Witton Park yesterday, when a large tree branch fell.' Witton Country Park is 480 acres of mixed woodland, parkland and farmland, and is to the west of Blackburn. The estate was once owned by the Feilden family, who built and lived in Witton House (1800 - 1946) and created the park at the same time. From approximately 1900 the house was empty for long periods and during both world wars the house and estate were used by the army. Witton House was demolished in 1952, after being sold to Blackburn Corporation in 1946. The Witton Estate, comprising some 485 acres, was included in this sale.

Body of canoer recovered from northern Minnesota lake
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says it has recovered a body a body from Shannon Lake on Thursday. Authorities say they received a call for an overturned canoe with a dead person nearby around 3:30 p.m. Several agencies responded to the scene. When they arrived they found a 76-year-old man dead, floating near the canoe. He was not wearing a life jacket. According to officials, the man told his family he was going to check the wild rice. Authorities are investigating the incident. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources does require a life jacket for each person on board a boat, including canoes.
