If toppers are from coaching hostels, who's left in schools?

Chandigarh: After JEE Advanced, the results of NEET UG 2025 declared on June 14 have once again exposed the deepening fault lines in education landscape, as coaching institutes in Chandigarh openly claim several top-ranking students as their "full-time classroom products. " Many of these students, officially enrolled in schools across rural and semi-urban Punjab, have spent the last two years living in hostels run by coaching institutes, attending intensive study sessions, bypassing regular schooling. The phenomenon is no longer an exception — it is a parallel system. Coaching centres now operate with their own residential campuses, attendance logs, and tightly controlled timetables. Students enrolled in distant schools never attend classes or school activities. Instead, they prepare exclusively for entrance tests under the coaching institute's supervision. In public declarations and congratulatory banners, these institutes make no effort to hide that these students are "ours," not their schools'. Interactions with students and parents suggest a widespread, almost unquestioned acceptance of this practice. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo A parent from Ambala who shifted his son to Chandigarh a year ago explained, "Every other student preparing seriously for NEET or JEE is doing this." Another parent, whose daughter was enrolled in a school in Patiala district but lived full-time in a Chandigarh coaching centre's PG accommodation, said, "Even the schools have no problem with such a set-up. In times when kids from rural Punjab are moving out abroad, schools want fees and they are ready to manage attendance." Local NEET trainer Arvind Goyal, who has witnessed the transformation of the entrance landscape over decades, offered a sharp critique: "Coaching classes were never meant to replace school education. When I was in class 11 and 12, school teaching gave us all the conceptual grounding we needed to clear the entrance exam. A few students took coaching after school hours. But in the last two decades, things have reversed. Coaching has taken over the academic space, pushing schools to the margins. In many cases, it's even running parallel to or in place of school hours." "What we now have is a pressure chamber," said Kiranjot, a teacher. "Coaching centres have turned into one-stop factories, reducing education to a rank-producing exercise. School used to mean learning, activities, friendships — now that entire experience is being bypassed."

AP GST staff take up frequent transfers with Chief Commissioner

AP GST officers and Employees Association's State Honorary President Chowdary Purushottam Naidu said on Monday that Chief Commissioner A. Babu responded positively to the association's concerns regarding the frequent transfers of staff in the department. Accompanied by APNGOs Association State President A. Vidya Sagar and General Secretary D.V. Ramana, Mr. Chowdary submitted a detailed memorandum to Mr. Babu at his office in Amaravati. They delegation highlighted that almost all officials and employees were being transferred frequently as their 'station seniority' was taken into consideration instead of their jurisdiction and responsibilities. Mr. Chowdary explained that though many officers and staff operate from the same office, they are assigned for GST collection responsibilities to far off locations. 'Mr. Babu understood the issues raised by the association and assured to bring our grievances to the notice of the higher authorities to avoid frequent transfers,' said the Association President, Allina Ramesh Kumar, Associate President, Rayi Venugopal, General Secretary, Chintala Kalyan. Women wing representative, M. Rajya Lakshmi, hoped that the government would make necessary changes for the General Transfer Guidelines-2025 in accordance to the requirements of the GST department.
