Anna Jobling, Malaysia's favourite next-door sweetheart, is back to tweak the hearts in 'Setia itu Mahal'

The Star26-07-2025
It looks like Anna Jobling is the current 'The' actress in the local scene. The world, it seems, is at her feet.
Already making waves with her upcoming movie "Duyung: Legenda Aurora", she is also cracking it up in the world of television. It's like Anna is seen in almost every other top TV series.
After winning so many fans in last year's super hit series "Syurga Itu Bukan Mudah", she once again is the star attraction in the upcoming series "Setia itu Mahal" on TV's Akasia slot.
In between all that, Anna had already seen in several other tele-series, including Astro's "Honey Minta Maaf". On top of that, besides "Duyung: Legenda Aurora", she is also starring in two Indonesian movies, "Sukma" and "Buhul.
In short, she is certainly the one who is flying in her career and the 24-year-old beauty is certainly ready to melt the hearts in the upcoming "Setia itu Mahal" series.
Coming to TV3's Akasia slot next week, Jamal Khan's latest script, "Setia Itu Mahal," is ready to test the audience's understanding of the true meaning of loyalty, which is expected to be a soul-wrenching affair.
Produced by Wiranusa Corporation Sdn Bhd, it tells the story of a woman caught between love and lust. This 28-episode drama brings together a line-up of popular Malaysian actors such as Anna Jobling, Zahiril Adzim, Redza Rosli, and Rita Nadira, with a script written by Sophilea.
Dalina (Anna Jobling), a famous fashion designer, lives happily with her husband, Dr Hakim (Zahiril Adzim) and their daughter, Alia. However, that happiness begins to be threatened when Tengku Farid (Redza Rosli), her first love, reappears, demanding a love that never fades.
Even though Tengku Farid is now the husband of an influential woman, Tengku Natasya, his heart is said to still be attached to Dalina. Every glance and every word seems to revive feelings that have long been buried within Dalina. In the fatigue of taking care of the family, coupled with the feeling of being neglected by her overly busy husband, Dalina may begin to falter.
When Alia falls ill and Dr Hakim cannot be reached, Dalina has no choice but to ask Tengku Farid for help. Will this call bring them back into the embrace of feelings that once existed and may never have died? Is this the beginning of a blurring point between loyalty and betrayal? And that is the premise of the much-awaited "Setia itu Mahal" drama.
'Dalina is a loving woman as a mother and wife… but she is also an ordinary person,' says Anna Jobling as she delves into the complex side of her main character in Setia Itu Mahal. 'She is not perfect. She struggles to understand what she feels and in her efforts to do the best she can, she becomes increasingly confused by her inner voice.'
For Anna, Dalina's strength lies in the fact that she is not a victim and she herself has never tried to be one. 'She is just caught in a dilemma she never asked for… between an old love that appeared uninvited, and a loyalty that is increasingly distant.'
Don't forget to mark your calendars ... "Setia Itu Mahal" will be available to viewers starting Monday (July 28, 2025), every Monday to Friday, at 7pm on TV3's Akasia slot. Also stream new episodes for free on Asia's streaming giant, iQIYI, starting at 8pm on the same day.

Actress Bella Astillah had to present award to ex-husband's rumoured fling

Photo: TV3/YouTube There was an awkward moment at Malaysia's Melodi Hottest Awards 2025 on Aug 3. Malaysian singer-actress Bella Astillah was one of the presenters at the event broadcast live on TV3 from Putrajaya International Convention Centre. The 31-year-old was presenting the award for the winner of the Hottest Female Celebrity category with Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman. Bella was visibly uncomfortable after she opened the envelope and saw the name of the winner. 'I know this one... I know her very well. Sophia,' she said, referring to Malaysian actress Sophia Albarakbah. Sophia, 32, went on stage after her name was announced. Bella swiftly passed her the trophy and a bouquet of flowers without making eye contact or acknowledging her. In early 2023, Bella accused Sophia of trying to wreck her marriage with her then husband, Malaysia-based Singaporean actor Aliff Aziz. Aliff and Sophia had both starred in the drama series Ku Akad Kau Dengan Bismillah (2023). Bella and Aliff, 34, first divorced in 2019, but reconciled in 2020. They divorced for the second time in June 2024 after Aliff was caught in khalwat (close proximity) with Malaysian actress Ruhainies, 33. Sophia was asked about the incident with Bella after the ceremony. "I'm OK because we're in the same industry. I never felt as if I was being mocked. Maybe that's just her way of presenting the award," she told entertainment portal Gempak. For the record, Bella and Syed Saddiq won in the Hottest Celebrity Couple Goals category, but she did not speak to the media. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network

Former TVB actress Ali Lee says she fell ill while filming local drama in Malaysia

Popular Hong Kong actress Ali Lee Kai-sum, who was in Malaysia filming the upcoming Astro drama The Exiled, revealed that she unexpectedly fell ill during the shoot. She stars opposite fellow Hong Kong actor Chris Lai Lok-yi in the series. According to an article by Sin Chew, Lee shared that she had to take 10 types of medication – including painkillers and sore throat remedies – while unwell. Fortunately, the medicine helped, and she made a significant recovery although she had a cough that didn't go away for awhile. In a behind-the-scenes video, the 42-year-old expressed gratitude to Lai who took care of her when she was ill. It was previously reported that Lee took the role in The Exiled partly because of her friendship with Lai. In the video, the duo spoke about their experience filming in Malaysia. Lee recalled how Lai encouraged her to get some sun and looked after her when she was feeling unwell. She humorously shared that at one point she knocked on Lai's hotel room door to ask for medicine, saying: 'His room became like a pharmacy. When I was coughing really badly, I went knocking and said, 'Excuse me doctor, I need medicine'.' Meanwhile, Lai added that many people were concerned about Lee's condition and would often call him to check if she was feeling better. Lee left TVB last year after 12 years with the company.

Melodi, TV3 under fire for 'making' Bella Astillah award ex-husband's scandal Sophia, netizens not holding back

SHAH ALAM - TV3 and its show Melodi are facing intense backlash online after a controversial moment at the 2025 Melodi Hottest Awards (AMT25), where singer and actress Bella Astillah was made to present an award to her ex-husband's alleged former flame, Sophia Albarakbah. The incident reignited a highly publicised scandal and triggered accusations of emotional exploitation and insensitivity. TV3 and its show Melodi are under fire after Bella was made to present an award to her ex-husband's alleged former flame, Sophia, at AMT25. Photo: Facebook The AMT25 finale, held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), became the talk of the nation, not because of the winners but due to the visibly tense exchange between Bella and Sophia on stage. Bella, whose full name is Dayang Ara Nabellah Awang Astillah, 31, was presenting the award for Hottest Female Celebrity alongside Muar Member of Parliament (MP) Syed Saddiq. When announcing Sophia as the winner, Bella delivered the line: 'Huh, this one I know very well, Sophia.' Her expression, tone and body language made it clear that the moment was anything but casual. Bella did not greet, look at or stand next to Sophia as she handed her the trophy; visibly uncomfortable throughout the encounter. The moment, now viral across social media platforms, sparked a storm of criticism against TV3 and Melodi, with many accusing the network of deliberately setting up the encounter to stir drama and boost ratings. Netizens were swift and vocal in their condemnation of the organisers. Instagram user @fatinnuridayu wrote: 'Bella looked like she was holding back. Her voice was barely audible. Like she was about to have an anxiety attack. Who made Bella announce Sophia's part? Are they ignorant or just deliberately cruel? This is outrageous.' Another user, @asfa_azfarizah, echoed the sentiment: 'Why did Bella have to announce that part? Melodi?' @ayu_mashruddin criticised the decision-making behind the event: 'Whoever scheduled Bella to hand the award for that category, senseless move. Is TV3 desperate for cheap virality?' In contrast, some praised Bella's composure despite the difficult situation. User @kupluv commented: 'Well done Bella. Even though Melodi tried to stir drama, you handled it like a queen. You did it well, slay girl!' The awkward encounter reignited memories of a 2023 scandal involving Bella, Sophia and Bella's then-husband, singer Aliff Aziz. At the time, Sophia was accused of being the third party in Bella and Aliff's marriage during the filming of 'Ku Akan Kau Dengan Bismillah'. Bella publicly shared screenshots showing Sophia apologising and expressing her wish to 'clear the air.' TV3 and its show Melodi are under fire after Bella was made to present an award to her ex-husband's alleged former flame, Sophia, at AMT25. Photo: Facebook The issue became one of the most talked-about entertainment controversies of the year. Bella and Aliff, who married in 2016, were officially divorced for the second time on June 13, 2024, with one revocation (talak satu). They share two children: Ayden Adrian and Ara Adreanna. Following the ceremony, Bella was spotted by reporters but quickly dodged questions, appearing visibly distressed. Her silence only further fuelled public anger and speculation about the organisers' motives. Social media has since erupted with criticism of TV3 and Melodi, with users accusing the broadcaster of lacking empathy and professionalism. While Melodi and TV3 may have aimed to create a dramatic awards night, they now face serious questions about ethics, compassion and emotional responsibility. For many, the Bella-Sophia incident was not entertainment; it was a raw, painful reminder of unresolved wounds, played out for the cameras. Whether TV3 will respond to the backlash remains to be seen, but one thing is clear; audiences are not staying silent.
