Nitish Kumar lays foundation stone for Rs 264-crore Tibbi College Hospital in Patna
The ambitious project, estimated to cost around Rs 264 crore, will be developed over 10 acres of land behind the B.Sc. Nursing School and the State Pharmacy Institute.
State Health Minister Mangal Pandey and Bihar Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav were also present at the ceremony.
Ahead of the event, Health Department Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh and Bihar Medical Services and Infrastructure Corporation Limited (BMSICL) Managing Director Dharmendra Kumar visited the site to assess preparedness and issued key directives.
The hospital will be equipped with a 200-bed Unani hospital across five storeys, an academic block for 150 students, an air-conditioned auditorium with 500 seating capacity, a residential complex for the principal, superintendent, doctors, and staff, and hostel facilities for candidates.
The construction work will be completed by 2027, according to engineers from BMSICL.
Senior NMCH officials, including Principal Prof. Usha Kumari, Superintendent Prof. Rishm Prasad, and Deputy Superintendent Saroj Kumar, were present during the inauguration.
Currently, the Tibbi College Hospital operates from Kadamkuan. Its principal, Prof. Mahfoozur Rahman, expressed optimism that the new infrastructure will significantly enhance academic standards and healthcare delivery.
On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for various projects worth Rs 48,500 crore during the Karakat rally.
The projects included a thermal power plant in Navinagar in Aurangabad, Varanasi-Gaya-Kolkata six-lane expressway, Patna-Gaya-Dobhi four-lane national highway and Bihta airport and many others.
PM Modi also spotlighted the growing focus on Bihar's Makhana industry after the Centre allotted it a GI tag and how lakhs of farmers are benefitting from it.
He had inaugurated the newly constructed terminal building of Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna on Thursday.

NEW DELHI: Over 1,400 convicts in Delhi prisons were granted special remission on Friday on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day, while the Delhi government approved Rs 145.58 crore to ease overcrowding in the city's jails. The Delhi Prisons department marked the day with Director General of Prisons Satish Golchha hoisting the national flag at the prison headquarters. In his address, the DG announced that a total of 1,497 eligible convicts would receive remission ranging from 15 to 25 days based on their conduct during incarceration. 'It was announced that to ease out the overcrowding of Delhi jails, a new jail in Narela will be constructed as the amount of Rs 145.58 crore has been approved by the Delhi government. It is also informed that the operation and management of Lampur detention centre has been taken over by the prison department in which around 273 foreigners are detained,' Golchha said. The prison department is also emphasising correctional philosophy by focusing on education and skill development programs for inmates. As part of this initiative, 600 prisoners are receiving training under the Unnati Cognitive Behavioural Programme of BPR&D in collaboration with Usmania University, with several other organisations supporting skill development initiatives across various jails. Golchha highlighted the recent implementation of BNS-2023, BNSS-2023, and BSA-2023, noting that Section 479 of BNSS-2023 was successfully applied and work on online court production through video conferencing is at an advanced stage. He also said an intelligence cell has been set up to further enhance prison security. Health and well-being were a key focus, with specialist doctors recruited to provide treatment to inmates within the jails. Over the past year, 3,247 new posts were created, leading to promotions within the jail cadre, while 1,697 posts of warder and 93 posts of assistant superintendent have been advertised by DSSSB for recruitment.

Negligence case: Relief for hospital and doctor
New Delhi: The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission recently exonerated a Delhi-based hospital and its cardiologist from allegations of medical negligence. "In light of the totality of the material on record, including the nature of the illness, the delayed presentation of the patient, the suppression of prior treatment history, the delay in obtaining informed consent, the fixed-fee CGHS payment model, and the exoneration by the Medical Council of India, no case of deficiency in service or medical negligence is made out against the opposite parties," stated the commission. Further, the commission took note of the fact that the complaint against the treating doctor was dismissed by the erstwhile Medical Council of India, now the National Medical Commission. The history of the case goes back to 2015, when the patient was admitted to the hospital, National Heart Institute, with acute chest pain. Later, he died. The doctor was booked in April 2017, and the family of the deceased also filed a consumer complaint before the consumer panel and sought compensation of Rs 5.5 crore. The hospital and the doctor denied all allegations of medical negligence. The commission noted that even though the Delhi Medical Council held that there was medical negligence, the ethics committee of Medical Council of India exonerated the doctor.

Foundation laid for 450-bed facility at Madikeri district hospital
Madikeri: The second phase of the district hospital in Madikeri, aimed at adding 450 beds, began with the foundation stone laying ceremony on Friday. The event was jointly organised by the department of medical education and the Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences. Kodagu district minister NS Bhoseraju laid the foundation stone at the Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences campus in Madikeri. Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the govt led by chief minister Siddaramaiah has placed a strong emphasis on improving both education and healthcare. The poor people rely on govt hospitals and it is the responsibility of doctors to ensure quality health services reach poor patients, he said. Kodagu MLAs Mantar Gowda and AS Ponnanna are working hard to upgrade the Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences, he added. Ponnanna, who also serves as the CM's legal adviser, said the long-standing demand for a super-specialty hospital in the region was finally being met. He said development in the district is a collective effort and the healthcare services must be accessible to all. MLA Mantar Gowda said it was their responsibility to provide the Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences with basic facilities. Doctors must deliver prompt and effective medical care to those who visit the hospital, he said. Efforts are being made to strengthen various departments, including the MRI scanning unit. Similar efforts will be made to strengthen the cardiology department. An additional Rs 20 crore will be provided for the development of the institute, he said.
