Tejashwi visits family of deceased Dalit girl in Muzaffarpur, slams Bihar govt over 'collapse' health system
Patna: Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, visited the Kurhni area of Muzaffarpur on Tuesday to meet the family of the 11-year-old Dalit girl who was sexually assaulted and died after being denied timely treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH). The incident has triggered massive political outrage and exposed deep flaws in the state's healthcare system. The minor girl, a victim of sexual assault by a villager, was referred from Muzaffarpur to PMCH in Patna, where she was allegedly made to wait in an ambulance for nearly four hours without being admitted, despite being in critical condition. She died during treatment on June 1, sparking widespread protests. After meeting the grieving family, Tejashwi Yadav launched a scathing attack on the Nitish Kumar-led government and Health Minister Mangal Pandey, calling the tragedy a result of the collapsed health infrastructure in Bihar. 'They keep repeating that an investigation committee has been formed. I want to ask them in how many cases has action actually been taken after investigation?' he said. 'If the hospital system was functioning properly, the girl would have been alive today,' Yadav said. Tejashwi Yadav also criticised the state's law and order, pointing out that such crimes were happening repeatedly across Bihar, and added that political apathy and corruption in postings and transfers had completely derailed governance. On Monday, the Congress party held a state-wide outrage march, burning effigies of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Health Minister Mangal Pandey. The incident has become a rallying point for the opposition ahead of the upcoming elections, with accusations of insensitivity, administrative failure, and systemic neglect. Facing mounting pressure, the Bihar government on Tuesday took major disciplinary action. Dr Abhijeet Singh, Deputy Superintendent in charge of PMCH Patna, has been removed from his post for administrative failure and negligence. Dr Kumari Vibha, Superintendent of SKMCH Muzaffarpur, has been suspended with immediate effect for not following referral protocols and showing insensitivity in the victim's treatment. According to the Health Department's official order, the actions were taken based on prima facie findings, and further proceedings, including the preparation of a charge sheet, are underway.

Oppn slams Bihar govt over rape, death of 10-year-old
Opposition parties in Bihar on Monday accused the state government of negligence and complete collapse of law and order which led to the rape and death of a 10-year old SC girl from Kurhani in Muzaffarpur. The girl was brought to Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) on Saturday with severe wounds on her neck and other parts of the body. She couldn't be admitted to the hospital in the initial few hours and some hospital doctors tried to treat her in the ambulance itself. Later, Congress state president Rajesh Ram reached PMCH along with other Congress leaders and after their protest, the girl got admitted to the gynaecology ward ICU. She died on Sunday morning. Opposition parties, especially the Congress, have been protesting against the poor law and order and administrative failure in providing urgent treatment to the girl. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pare a neuropatia: descubra como NeuroFit Undo "The brutality against a minor Dalit girl in Muzaffarpur and the subsequent negligence in providing her treatment is extremely shameful. If she had received timely treatment, her life could have been saved. But the double-engine government was negligent not only in providing security but also in saving her life. We will not sit quietly until the victim's family gets justice. Strict action should be taken against the culprits and negligent officers," leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi posted on X on Sunday. On Monday, Congress leaders protested on the streets demanding the resignation of Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey. Live Events "What has happened to the minor girl and the way the government responded to it shows the complete apathy and collapse of administration in the state. It is the poor law and order situation and negligent health services which took the life of the young girl. We demand justice for her," Congress Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru told ET. ET tried to get in touch with minister Mangal Pandey but the calls remained unanswered. Pandey was in Kolkata on Monday for a BJP party meeting as he is also the party incharge of West Bengal. Rashtriya Lok Morcha leader and NDA ally Upendra Kushwaha also demanded strict action against those who are responsible for the delay in treatment at PMCH. "There are two aspects. First, one of the accused has been nabbed and is behind bars. The government will go for speedy trial to deliver justice to the family of the deceased girl," Rajeev Ranjan, JDU chief spokesperson, told ET. "Second, the girl was brought to PMCH in a very bad condition and everything possible was done to save her. Unfortunately, the doctors couldn't save her life."

Bihar Dalit rape victim dies after being made to wait for hours in ambulance
PATNA: A nine-year-old Dalit girl from Bihar's Muzaffarpur, who was raped and brutally attacked on May 26, died at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on Sunday morning, amid allegations that she was left waiting in an ambulance for several hours before getting a bed. She was brought to PMCH from Muzaffarpur-based SKMCH in a critical condition on Saturday. Former Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan said the party would ensure justice for the victim's family. She also lashed out at state health minister Mangal Pandey over the deteriorating condition of premier hospitals like PMCH. 'I demand Mangal Pandey's resignation. He has no moral right to remain in office when the poor are being denied healthcare despite the state government's tall claims of improving infrastructure in government-run hospitals,' she said. Rajesh Rathod, media in-charge of Congress, said that the rape victim had to wait in ambulance for several hours in the premises of the PMCH. "Her family members reached the PMCH at 11 am on Saturday. It took the hospital administration more than four hours to arrange a bed for her,' he added. Bihar Congress president Rajesh Ram slammed the state government for its insensitivity towards women, citing the rising incidents of sexual assault. 'The law-and-order machinery has completely collapsed in the state,' he said. Sushil Kumar, senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Muzaffarpur district, said that the accused, identified as Rohit Sahni has already been arrested. Muzaffarpur residents alleged that the accused Rohit Sahani had earlier committed the same offence with another 12-year-old girl at the village and attempted to kill her. However, she had survived in the incident. Meanwhile, the Muzaffarpur unit of the Congress staged a protest at Saraiyaganj Tower Chowk, condemning the incident and threatening to intensify their agitation. Party members alleged that three cases of rape have been reported in the district in recent days.
