Vigil intensified amid calls for rituals at disputed site on Janmashtami

Time of India2 days ago
Prayagraj: Amid fresh reports that some locals might try to enter the disputed site at Abunagar Eidgah to perform religious rituals on Janmashtami, senior police and administrative officials of Fatehpur have imposed prohibitory orders and intensified vigil in the violence-hit area.
The area saw violence on Monday when members of Hindu organisations allegedly entered the Eidgah premises and hoisted saffron flags atop a 200-year-old mausoleum on the campus, claiming that it was raised at the site of a temple.
The incident, which occurred at around 10 am on Monday despite police bandobast, sparked outrage among members of the local Muslim community and led to stone-pelting between the two sides.
Fatehpur police on Thursday clarified that Section 163 of BNSS (formerly Section 144) prohibitory order was currently in force in the district. All parties and the public are being informed that any kind of demonstration, procession, etc is completely prohibited at the disputed site or any other place. However, no arrest has been made so far.
The police also made it clear that if any party or person makes any such call or participates in any such programme, then their act will be against the law, and strict legal action will be taken.
They added that any inflammatory social media post will invite action. An appeal has been made to the masses to maintain mutual harmony and not believe in rumours.
Ironically, the police have failed to take any action regarding the incident despite the fact that an FIR was lodged against 10 named individuals and 150 unknown persons for disturbing peace on Monday.
Those named in the FIR included Abhishek Shukla, Dharmendra, Ashish Trivedi, Pappu Singh, Prasoon, Ritik Pal, Vinay Tiwari, Pushpraj Patel, Ajay Singh, and Devnath Dhakre.
A senior police officer, preferring anonymity, told TOI, "Things are under control, and police carried out patrolling in Abunagar and adjoining areas on Thursday to maintain law and order. Cops would be deployed at static points in Abunagar and adjoining areas till Sunday. Special police teams have also been formed to maintain a strict watch on social media platforms."

AI helps trace, nab truck driver involved in hit-and-run from UP

Nagpur: The Nagpur rural police used AI (artificial intelligence) through their indigenous tool, MARVEL, to apprehend a truck driver responsible for a hit-and-run accident on Nagpur-Jabalpur highway. The driver was tracked 700km away on Gwalior-Kanpur highway and was apprehended in less than a week on Saturday. On August 16, Deolapar police arrested Satyapal Rajendra, 28, from Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh, at his residence and seized the vehicle involved in the incident. The hit-and-run case gained widespread attention after a man's video of returning home on a bike with his wife's body tied to the seat went viral on social media. SP Nagpur (rural), Harssh A Poddar, said that the AI-driven technology calculated the truck's average speed as captured by a CCTV if it passed unhindered. "AI red flags if any anomaly is found in the calculated average speed and the actual one. We fed information into the system about a red truck which threw up results about five such vehicles. Subsequent investigations led the police to zero in on the accused who has now been apprehended," said Poddar, adding the vehicle plied between the Chandrapur-Kanpur-Delhi route. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo Gyarsi Yadav, 30, was killed and her husband, Amit, 35, injured after a truck with UP registration number hit their two-wheeler near Morphata Dargah under Deolapar police station limits on August 10. #IDontKnowHomeMinister' goes viral, G Parameshwara tells trolls to find out who is the best

Bengaluru: For home minister G Parameshwara, the words "I don't know" have become both a shield and a punchline. Trolled online for his stock answer to almost every tricky question, the minister turned defence into attack on Saturday by roping in Artificial Intelligence. "Ask ChatGPT. It says Parameshwara is the no.1 home minister in India. Let the trolls verify that," he shot back at reporters in Tumakuru, visibly irritated as the hashtag #IDontKnowHomeMinister (Kannada: #GottillaGruhasachivaru) trended on social media. The trolling began after Parameshwara admitted he had "no idea" why cooperation minister KN Rajanna had suddenly resigned. Netizens quickly dug up a series of past press interactions wherein his replies began with the now-famous two words. Memes, reels, and sarcastic posts flooded timelines. As home minister, I can't say something casually. If people want to troll me, that's their right." Earlier, he warned the Tumakuru media not to find mistakes and vilify the district. "Inform us before mistakes happen and tell us to rectify it before publicizing them," he said. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
