Alabama lands CB Jorden Edmonds, Crimson Tide's first 5-star commitment in 2026 class

New York Times26-03-2025
Alabama football landed its first five-star commitment in the 2026 class when defensive back Jorden Edmonds announced his commitment Wednesday to the Crimson Tide. Edmonds, the No. 27 player nationally according to the 247Sports Composite, is the No. 1-ranked cornerback in the country and becomes Alabama's second defensive back commit, joining four-star Zyan Gibson.

Edmonds — a 6-foot-2, 175-pound prospect — hails from Marietta, Ga., and is a major recruiting win for Alabama, which landed him amid offers from nearly every high-caliber program in college football. With his commitment, Alabama has four commitments in the 2026 class, which was ranked 39th nationally before his commitment.
Defensive backs coach Maurice Linguist led the way in Edmonds' recruitment. With another blue chip prospect to a defensive back group, Alabama has continued to rebuild after Nick Saban's retirement, which saw a mass exodus of players as Saban personally coached that position group. From the last recruiting cycle to this one, Alabama has signed/landed the verbal commitment of five defensive backs — all ranked inside the top 100 players nationally.

Edmonds is a two-way star for Sprayberry High, doubling as the team's top cornerback (35 tackles, three pass deflections) and leading wide receiver (35 catches, 670 yards, four touchdowns) last season. The ball skills part of Edmonds' game is significant given the new identity of Alabama's defense.
The new scheme implemented by coordinator Kane Wommack emphasizes zone coverage through eyes on the quarterback and making plays on the ball. Alabama finished fifth nationally in takeaways last season (28). Edmonds' height, which has been verified as 6-feet-2 1/2 inches by recruiting services, and his ball skills displayed by playing both sides are the type of combination that schools covet, and should fit nicely in Alabama's defense.
Furthermore, Edmonds' body type is becoming increasingly popular in Alabama's recruiting focus. The current team features Domani Jackson — a 6-foot-1, 195-pound corner — as its leading starter. In the 2025 recruiting class, Alabama signed five-star Dijon Lee, a 6-foot-4 prospect and four-star Chuck McDonald, another 6-foot-1, near-200-pound prospect. Adding Edmonds signifies Alabama's focus on longer, rangier cornerbacks that can leverage their size to make an impact in multiple ways.

At the moment, Alabama is only carrying five cornerbacks entering the 2025 season and will lose Jackson to graduation this winter. As a result, cornerback will continue to be a position of focus for Alabama during the 2026 cycle. But adding Edmonds, the No. 1 ranked CB, to pair with Gibson, the No. 4 CB, one year after adding Lee and McDonald — the Nos. 2 and 7-ranked CBs respectively in the 2025 class — and five-star Zabien Brown before them in the 2024 class is about as strong of a data point as any that the trajectory of Alabama's secondary is trending upwards.

Alabama football 2025 season preview, predictions: Kadyn Proctor

There are few offensive linemen across college football better at their respective position entering the 2025 season than Alabama Crimson Tide left tackle Kadyn Proctor. Entering year three in Tuscaloosa, Proctor was a day one starter at Alabama who joined the program as a top recruit in the Crimson Tide's 2023 class. However, Proctor's time in Tuscaloosa has not come entirely without bumps in the road, as the former top recruit in fact struggled at times as a true freshman, and even left the program entirely at one point via the transfer portal. One of the most important players on the Crimson Tide's 2025 roster, here is a look at everything you need to know about Alabama offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor entering the 2025 season. Kadyn Proctor player information Kadyn Proctor career stats Over the past two seasons, Proctor has started all 24 games which he has played for the Crimson Tide at left tackle. Proctor was a SEC All-Freshman selection during the 2023 season, and also earned Second Team All-SEC honors a year ago. Kadyn Proctor 2024 stats Proctor was back as Alabama's starting left tackle during the 2024 season, starting all 11 games which he played. A mainstay of Alabama's offensive line when healthy, Proctor earned Second Team All-SEC honors. Kadyn Proctor recruiting ranking One of the highest-rated offensive linemen in program history, Proctor came to Alabama ranked as the nation's No. 10 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings. A five-star prospect who committed to Alabama in Dec. 2022 after flipping from Iowa, Proctor was also ranked the No. 2 offensive tackle nationally, as well as the top player in the state of Iowa where he attended Southeast Polk High School. Last offseason, Proctor was considered by 247Sports as the No. 2 overall player in the transfer portal, as well as the top offensive lineman. Rated a five-star prospect, Proctor committed to Alabama again in April 2024 after previously transferring to Iowa in Jan. 2024. Kadyn Proctor 2025 season outlook Projected as a top 2026 NFL draft pick, expect Proctor to be one of college football's best overall players this fall. Proctor will start every game for the Crimson Tide at left tackle this season, which will be his third-straight year in Tuscaloosa as the top name at the position. The junior should also be one of the top left tackles, as well as overall offensive lineman, in college football this season, and has already been named to the preseason watch lists for a few honors such as the Outland Trophy. Overall, expect a stellar 2025 season for Proctor as Alabama's starting left tackle, and for the junior to eventually receive a few honors at seasons end on both a conference and national level. Fox Sports' Joel Klatt names this 2025 Alabama football opponent as CFP 'party crasher'

There's one opponent on the 2025 SEC schedule that the Alabama football hasn't had much trouble with through the years. Since the Missouri Tigers joined the SEC ahead of the 2012 season, Alabama has gone 5-0 against the Tigers. After posting a 42-10 victory in a heavy downpour at Faurot Field in Missouri's first year as a conference foe, Alabama's average margin of victory against the Tigers has been 28.6 points. Even amid the ups and downs in coach Kalen DeBoer's first season in Tuscaloosa last year, Alabama had no problem dispatching Missouri with a 34-0 shutout win at Bryant-Denny Stadium a week after their 24-17 loss at Neyland Stadium to Tennessee. Despite being unranked in the preseason top 25 polls, Missouri was arguably the quietest 10-win program in Power Four in 2024. The Tigers reached double digits in wins after closing the season with a 27-24 victory over Iowa in the Music City Bowl. That came 12 months after defeating Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl to cap an 11-2 season. Could coach Eli Drinkwitz's team take it a step further and reach the 2025 College Football Playoff? At least one prominent analyst believes so. On the Thursday edition of "The Joel Klatt Show: A College Football Podcast," the Fox Sports commentator tabbed Missouri as one of four CFP "party crashers" in 2025. In Klatt's view, Missouri gets the preseason nod over Oklahoma and Auburn as the SEC team that could "come out of nowhere" to snag an at-large spot in the playoff. "They have been highly successful over the last couple of years," Klatt said of Missouri. "They've recruited well. Drinkwitz has a culture at Missouri, and I'm a fan of Beau Pribula. I know that they haven't settled on a quarterback yet, but I saw him at Penn State last year. Hard for them to keep him off the field at Penn State." Pribula was the Nittany Lions' backup who entered the transfer portal with his team set to compete in the College Football Playoff last year. Klatt called Pribula's decision to leave Penn State as Drew Allar's backup a "difficult decision" made by "the stupid transfer rules." Nevertheless, Klatt is high on Pribula and loves the momentum of Missouri's back-to-back 10-win seasons, the Tigers' defense, and most of all their schedule. "They hit the schedule lottery in the SEC," Klatt said before pointing out that Missouri's conference slate doesn't include games against preseason No. 1 Texas, No. 4 Georgia, No. 9 LSU, No. 15 Ole Miss, No. 17 Florida and No. 18 Tennessee. Missouri opens its season with six consecutive home games, including a matchup against Alabama on Oct. 11 at Faurot Field. "Guys, watch out for Missouri this year," Klatt said before asking, "Can you beat either Alabama or South Carolina, and then definitely beat A&M on your home field? If they can do that, then I think Missouri has a great chance to be a party crasher." Alabama vs. Missouri is scheduled for an 11 a.m. CT kickoff on Oct. 11. The game will be televised on either ABC or ESPN. Alabama football schedule 2025 Alabama, ranked No. 8 in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 poll, opens the 2025 season against the Florida State Seminoles at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee on Aug. 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ABC. Florida State is unranked in either poll. All times Central.
