Liverpool name former Wales boss as new U21s manager
Former Wales manager Rob Page has taken the reins of Liverpool's Under-21 side.
Page's most recent role was at the helm of the Welsh senior team, where he spent three and a half years from 2020. He initially joined as Ryan Giggs' assistant, stepped in as interim boss, and was eventually handed the job full-time.

During his time in charge, the 50-year-old guided Wales to their first World Cup appearance since 1958 and also reached the knockout stages of Euro 2020. However, his spell came to an end in June 2024 after Wales failed to qualify for the Euros that summer.
His departure from the senior role followed a string of poor results, including a goalless draw against Gibraltar and a heavy 4-0 defeat to Slovakia. Craig Bellamy has since taken over the national team duties.
A former international captain with 41 caps to his name, Page had previously managed the Wales Under-21s and earned praise for his work with the youth side before stepping up.
At Liverpool, Page takes over from Barry Lewtas, who left the U21 post earlier this month.

Cristiano Ronaldo Agrees to New Deal With Al Nassr Through 2027

Cristiano Ronaldo will remain with Al Nassr. The all-time soccer legend officially signed a new deal with the Saudi Arabian club through 2027 on Thursday. "A new chapter begins. Same passion, same dream. Let's make history together," the Portugal superstar posted on social media. Ronaldo, 40, joined Al Nassr in January 2023, signing a record-breaking deal at the time to leave Manchester United. As his contract was set to expire on Monday, there were rumors that Ronaldo could leave the club. Ronaldo continued to play at a high level for Al Nassr in his two-plus seasons with the club. He led the Saudi Pro League in scoring in each of the last two seasons, scoring 25 goals in league play and 35 goals across all competitions in 2024-25. But Al Nassr has yet to win a Saudi Pro League title with Ronaldo, finishing third this past season. There had been speculation that Ronaldo would be looking for a new club. Earlier in June, he posted "this chapter is over" on social media after Al Nassr's final game of the on international duty with Portugal, in which he led the squad to the UEFA Nations League title, he said he had received "quite a few" offers from teams participating in the ongoing Club World Cup. After Portugal's win over Spain in the Nations League final on June 8, Ronaldo said "nothing will change" regarding his club situation and when asked if he would stay with Al Nassr, he simply replied: "Yes." Ronaldo, a five-time Balon d'Or winner, has had a decorated career with 794 goals in club soccer. During his first stint at Manchester United, Ronaldo won three Premier League titles and the 2008 Champions League. In 2009, Ronaldo moved to Real Madrid, where he became the club's all-time leading scorer with 450 goals in 438 appearances across nine seasons – winning four Champions League titles and two LaLiga trophies. In 2018, he moved to Juventus where he won two Serie A titles before his return to Manchester United in 2021. For Portugal, he has 138 goals (a men's international record) and has captained the team to three major titles – the 2016 European Championship and two Nations Leagues (2019, 2024). He remains in the mix to play at the 2026 World Cup, which would be the sixth of his career. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Next Arsenal transfer was likened to $60M former Liverpool star - 'Not much difference'

Arsenal is closing in on a somewhat surprising signing, with Brentford's Christian Norgaard set to move to the Emirates. Mikel Arteta's side finished a distant second to Liverpool in the Premier League standings this season, and Gunners fans have been left decidedly underwhelmed by the prospect of Norgaard becoming the club's first signing of the summer. Advertisement With 30-somethings Jorginho and Thomas Partey both leaving the club, it seems as though Arteta is keen to replace their experience, and aged 31, Norgaard could turn out to be a shrewd addition. Norgaard has been at Brentford since 2019 and has made more than 30 Premier League appearances in three of the four seasons that the Bees have been in the top flight. Advertisement "I think Christian is a late bloomer," said Frank. "And I'm very, very pleased that he's playing for Brentford. Because I think if you took him out and put him into Liverpool, and changed the two players, Fabinho and him, I don't think you'd see much difference." Norgaard's impending move to Arsenal comes as Liverpool makes its third major signing of the summer, with Milos Kerkez's move to Anfield confirmed on Thursday. It's a real honour for me, a privilege to come to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world, [the] biggest club in England. "I'm just really, really happy and excited." Kerkez also revealed his chat with Arne Slot. He added: "We talked about the tactics and the plan and where he sees where I can improve and where I can help the team. "Obviously when [the] coach comes also and talks to you, it's a big thing, it's a big sign of respect. "For me, there were no second doubts then that I want to go somewhere else. It was always Liverpool." Advertisement On his friendship with Dominik Szoboszlai, Kerkez continued: "Yeah, he's a really, really, really close, really good friend of mine, and we talk already every second or third day. "It's good to have a friend and it's only going to make it easier for you, he's going to show me around everything, so it'll be good to have him here."

Oscar Piastri says he and Lando Norris remain 'free to race' for the F1 title

SPIELBERG, Austria (AP) — Oscar Piastri says he and McLaren teammate Lando Norris are 'still free to race' for the Formula 1 title after their collision at the Canadian Grand Prix. Norris apologized after clipping Piastri's car and hitting the wall in Canada 11 days ago. The incident ended Norris' race but Piastri finished fourth to extend his standings lead to 22 points over Norris. Speaking on Thursday ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix, Piastri dismissed suggestions that the incident might prompt a rethink of McLaren's in-house 'papaya rules' for battles between its drivers, or even that a time might be near when McLaren might favor Piastri over Norris. The rules remain the 'same as always,' Piastri said. 'What happened in Canada wasn't ideal, but we're still free to race, still fighting for a championship each,' Piastri said. 'We'll keep going racing and make sure that we don't come into contact again.' He added: 'The first rule, regardless of whether it's written down or not, is that the two cars from the same team don't crash.' No McLaren driver has won F1 since a young Lewis Hamilton in 2008. Defending champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull is Piastri's and Norris' closest non-McLaren challenger, 43 points off the lead. Asked if he foresees a time when he could argue to McLaren's leadership that he should be favored over Norris, Piastri said he didn't want to discuss it. While 'ultimately it can only be one of us,' Piastri said, 'I think the situation has to change dramatically to start having those conversations and they're a very long way away at the moment. At the moment, all I can ask for is a fair chance to try and win the championship and that's what I want as well. So no, I'm not willing to enter those talks at all.' ___ AP auto racing:
