AMMAN — Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Tuesday visited seven key development sites in the northern city of Ajloun, as part of the government's ongoing outreach across the Kingdom.
Hassan visited agriculture, industry, tourism, health, and youth development sites, according to a Prime Ministry statement.
At the Northern Ajloun Villages Association in Sakhrah, the prime minister commended the "group's innovative approach to food processing and crop management."
The association's operations in cooling, drying, and packaging vegetables and fruits provide vital jobs for locals, particularly women, the statement said.
'This association is a model for agricultural productivity and food manufacturing,' Hassan said, announcing plans to supply the group with advanced packaging equipment and tools to improve marketing and exports, especially to Gulf countries. "The government will also fund the association's rent for a decade to secure its financial sustainability."
At the Ajloun Vocational Training Institute, which trains 250 youth across 15 fields, Hassan engaged with trainees and listened to their aspirations. He promised immediate action to address transportation issues for students and announced measures to support them post-graduation, including linking them with job opportunities and providing start-up equipment for small businesses, according to the statement.
'We will also expand training in key sectors such as hybrid and electric vehicle maintenance, ensuring these programmes align with labour market demands,' he said, adding that new computers and air conditioning systems would be provided for the institute's workshops.
The prime minister visited the Advanced Technology Garment Manufacturing Company in Ajloun, which employs around 300 women, most of whom are university graduates.
'This company exemplifies how local investments can drive economic growth while creating safe and supportive workplaces,' he noted.
The company plans to expand operations by adding a production line after Ramadan, creating 60 new jobs, and constructing an additional floor by 2026 to accommodate 150 more workers. The factory, which exports to the US, reported a JD73 million export total in 2024, with production efficiency reaching 85 per cent, one of the highest globally, the statement said.
The historic Mar Elias Church, a major Christian pilgrimage site, was part of the premier's visit, where he called for expedited restoration efforts and improved visitor services to enhance its appeal.
Recognised as one of the five Christian pilgrimage destinations designated by the Vatican in Jordan, the church is among the largest in the Kingdom and serves as the second Christian pilgrimage site in Ajloun after Our Lady of the Mountain Church.
At the Ajloun Cable Car Station, which attracted 365,000 visitors last year, the prime minister emphasized the project's role in boosting the region's profile. He directed officials to ensure the cable car system is ready for the tourist season and proposed extending the route to Mar Elias Hill, linking the area's religious and cultural landmarks.
Hassan's visit to the Ajloun Comprehensive Health Center included directives to build a new facility by 2026. The center, currently housed in a rented building, will move to ministry-owned land to enhance accessibility and services.
At the Ajloun Youth Center, Hassan met with young people to discuss their priorities. He urged a reevaluation of youth programs to better align with market demands.
'The energy of our youth must be harnessed not just for their personal growth but for the betterment of their communities,' Hassan said, encouraging youth involvement in tourism initiatives such as site clean-up and preservation campaigns.
Ministers of agriculture, tourism, health, and local administration accompanied the prime minister.

Cabinet approves tax exemptions for JFA, incentives for green hydrogen projects
AMMAN – The Cabinet has decided to exempt the Jordan Football Association (JFA) from sales tax on its revenues generated from sponsorship and marketing contracts, television broadcasting rights, and ticket sales. The exemptions were approved during a session on Wednesday, chaired by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, according to a Prime Ministry statement. The decision follows prime minister's visit to the association in July and comes in recognition of the national team's recent historic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the statement said. During his visit to JFA, Hassan announced that the government would double the association's budget starting next year to help it continue its achievements. He also said at the time that the government will support the expansion of youth football training centres across the Kingdom's governorates and make use of the infrastructure of youth centres to develop training programmes for football and other sports. The Cabinet also approved classifying donations to the JFA as tax-deductible and exempted individuals and entities contracted by the association from paying work permit fees, the statement said. The Cabinet also endorsed a set of investment incentives for green hydrogen projects located outside the Aqaba Special Economic Zone, as recommended by the Ministry of Investment. The new incentives include reducing income tax to 5 per cent, plus a 1 per cent national contribution, and full exemption from customs duties, import fees, and other taxes on all fixed assets and equipment, whether sourced locally or imported by project owners or contractors. The incentives also include exempting projects, companies, and contractors, main and sub, from general sales tax and any other taxes, according to the statement. The statement said that the incentives are expected to attract high-value investments, create both direct and indirect jobs, and advance Jordan's position as a regional hub for clean energy and green technologies, such as green ammonia production. The Cabinet also approved the financing agreement and memorandum of understanding related to the financial assistance provided to Jordan by the European Union, amounting to €500 million. This is part of a €3 billion financial aid package announced by the EU for Jordan earlier this year for the period 2025–2027, within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Jordan and the EU, which was signed by His Majesty King Abdullah at the end of January. The aid package includes €640 million in grants, €1.4 billion in investments, and around €1 billion allocated for macroeconomic support, in recognition of the Kingdom's role and strategic partnership with the EU, the statement said. The Cabinet also approved the 2025 bylaw for the Scientific Research and Innovation Support Fund. The bylaw, the statement said, aims to provide a suitable environment for scientific research through research centres and to regulate the financial, administrative, and technical aspects related to the fund.

Jordan, Egypt sign agreements to boost cooperation, multi-sector partnerships
AMMAN — Jordan and Egypt on Tuesday concluded the 33rd session of their Joint Higher Committee by signing nine agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation across multiple sectors. The meeting was co-chaired by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan and Egypt Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. The agreements span key areas including energy, electricity interconnection, investment, industry, tourism, transport, and transit. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to building on their longstanding fraternal ties, guided by His Majesty King Abdullah and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, to promote mutual interests, according to a Prime Ministry statement. Prime Minister Hassan described Jordan-Egypt relations as a benchmark for Arab cooperation, highlighting that regular committee meetings since 1985 have deepened collaboration across numerous fields. He also pointed to continuous growth in trade volumes, increasing Jordanian private sector investment in Egypt, and expanding opportunities in tourism, transport, and transit. Hassan emphasised the shared commitment to broadening cooperation in energy and electricity networks, including activating the trilateral mechanism involving Iraq. Addressing economic challenges common to both countries, he stressed that creating job opportunities for youth is a top priority underpinning the Economic Modernisation Vision, which seeks to attract investment, stimulate growth, and boost employment, the statement said. On regional matters, Hassan affirmed that Jordan and Egypt stand united on key challenges, foremost the Palestinian cause and the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza. Both prime ministers condemned the "brutal" conflict, called for intensified efforts to end the aggression, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, reject starvation tactics in Gaza, and oppose provocative actions in the West Bank and Jerusalem. Hassan lauded Egypt's significant role in Gaza, noting ongoing coordination at leadership and ministerial levels, according to the statement. Regarding Syria, Hassan reaffirmed Jordan's support for the new Syrian government's efforts to restore security, stability, and prosperity, and to address pressing challenges through cooperation. Madbouly highlighted the deep-rooted bilateral relations and voiced Egypt's eagerness to remove obstacles hindering economic cooperation, citing energy, gas supply, and electricity interconnection as exemplary areas of partnership. He also affirmed both countries' rejection of any attempts to alter the demographic or geographic status in Gaza or the West Bank. Madbouly stressed that Egypt and Jordan maintain full coordination on developments in Gaza, the West Bank, and other regional issues. The agreements signed include an executive programme for scientific cooperation between Jordan's Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and Egypt's National Planning Institute; an executive programme between Jordan's Free and Development Zones Group and Egypt's General Authority for Investment and Free Zones and a memorandum of understanding on consumer protection, according to the statement. Additional agreements cover cooperation in local development, protecting cultural heritage and combating illicit antiquities trade, a memorandum of understanding between the finance ministries of the two countries, an executive programme for youth cooperation (2025–2028), a programme to implement a memorandum of understanding between the ministries of Awqaf (religious endowments) and an agreement on government procurement cooperation.
