Thiruvananthapuram's Greenfield Stadium likely to host Women's World Cup 2025 matches

The Greenfield Stadium here is likely to host the Women's World Cup matches originally allotted to Bengaluru. There had been uncertainty about the games at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium following the stampede in June that claimed 11 lives during the celebrations following Royal Challengers Bengaluru's maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) triumph.
When the Karnataka State Cricket Association failed to secure permission for the World Cup, which was scheduled to begin at the Chinnaswamy stadium on September 30, the BCCI was forced to find an alternate venue.

The BCCI had informed the Kerala Cricket Association a week ago Thiruvananthapuram was being considered. The KCA, it is understood, is willing to take up the offer.
The KCA sources said the Kerala Cricket League, scheduled to be held from August 21 to September 6, will be moved to an alternative venue in Thiruvananthapuram or Alappuzha if the World Cup matches are allotted to Thiruvananthapuram.

"Should've Said No": Sachin Tendulkar Slammed By India Great On Renaming Of Pataudi Trophy

The five-match Test series between India and England ended in a 2-2 draw, giving fans a memorable cricketing action. This series, which was Shubman Gill 's first stint as India's Test captain, was renamed as the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy from the iconic Patuadi Trophy. This move grabbed everyone's attention as many fans and former cricketers raised their voices and stated that it was an insult to the great Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. However, the series was still renamed in the honour of former England pacer James Anderson and India great Sachin Tendulkar. Recently, India great Karsan Ghavri slammed the BCCI and even Sachin for not taking a firm stand against the change of the series name. He even name dropped Sunil Gavaskar and stated that if the name of Border-Gavaskar would have been changed then the former opener "would have shake the whole India". "That is very wrong. Number one, the Australia-West Indies series is always called the Frank Worrell Trophy. The India-Australia Trophy is always called the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. If its name changed, Gavaskar poore India ko hila ke rakh dega (Gavaskar will shake the whole of India)," Ghavri told Vicky Lalwani on the latter's YouTube channel. "The BCCI should've put its foot down with the MCC and the ECB. Tiger's name shouldn't have been removed," he added. Ghavri then went on to criticise Sachin for not "putting his foot down" and not honouring the stature of Pataudi. "In the same context, when it came to Sachin Tendulkar, that this trophy would be changed, and this trophy would be named after you and Anderson, Sachin should've said no. Objection is different," said Ghavri. "In the first place, you should've put your foot down and should've said 'No, I don't want to use my name because Tiger Pataudi's name is already there. He's a legend of Indian cricket. If you want to give medals, use our name. Trophy's name should remain the same'. First of all, this question should've never been raised. You're degrading somebody of a great stature," he added.

Jaiswal slightly ahead of Gill for spot in India's Asia Cup squad, says Chopra

New Delhi: Former India opener Aakash Chopra believes Yashasvi Jaiswal has a slight edge over Shubman Gill in the race for a place in India's squad for the upcoming Asia Cup, citing the left-handed batter's game being suited more towards T20 game. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee are most likely to meet on August 19 to pick India's squad for the Asia Cup, to be held from September 9-28 in the UAE. Both Gill and Jaiswal last played a T20I more than a year ago, with Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson becoming the first-choice opening pair. 'It is important that you keep an opener with you because, while counting the previous 15-member squad, there was no third opener in the Indian team. We never thought that if Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson would lose their form, then who would open. But then, you have to keep a third opener for the World Cup.' 'As per T20 figures, Yashasvi is little ahead of Shubman. The way he plays T20 and the DNA of the team, he also marries that style. Sometimes it also happens that if you pick Shubman as the third opener, who is your Test captain, the ODI vice-captain, now you have him on the bench in T20Is, that will not look very nice.' 'So the selectors will be thinking that if we are going to select Shubman, then we will have to give him a place in the eleven. Though picking Shubman is tempting, but I feel Yashasvi should be slightly ahead in this race,' said Chopra on his YouTube channel on Saturday. It may not be easy for the selectors to leave out either Gill or Jaiswal, but accommodating them in the squad from the outside looks equally challenging. With a settled opening pair of Abhishek and Sanju, followed by Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh and Hardik Pandya, India's batting line-up already looks formidable with proven performers. While there could be a possibility of including one of them, the question is at whose expense. 'But if that third opener is Shubman, do you want him to sit on the bench? If you don't make him sit and play in the eleven, who will he come in for? If that player's name is Sanju Samson, who will keep wickets?' 'That is the problem because we don't see Sanju Samson playing in the middle order. You would want him at the top of the order. Tilak and Surya will play at number three and four. So, Sanju at fifth? That won't be a good story. If you want someone at fifth, then you will have to think about Jitesh Sharma because he has done very well in the IPL,' added Chopra.

There's no rivalry between me and Hardik Pandya: Irfan Pathan

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has recently claimed that back in 2012, he had suggested Hardik Pandya's name to VVS Laxman to be selected for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, SRH could not get the Baroda all-rounder. Hardik would later be brought by the Mumbai Indians in 2015. The pace-bowling all-rounder went on to have immense success for the franchise, winning trophies, and when he moved to the Gujarat Titans, Hardik also managed to win a title as the leader. Clarifying the rumours on Pathan having with Hardik, Pathan said, the former on Lallantop said, 'There's no rivalry between me and Hardik Pandya. There's nothing as such. No player from Baroda who went to the top can say that Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan didn't support them at any specific time. Even VVS Laxman said that I regret that I didn't listen to Irfan in 2012. If I had listened, then Hardik would've played for SunRisers Hyderabad. Laxman said that.' Pathan, ahead of the 2024 World Cup questioned the selection of Hardik in the side. 'What I feel about Hardik Pandya is that Indian cricket needs to make it clear that they should not give him that much priority as they have given him so far, because we still haven't won the World Cup. And if you think you are a primary all-rounder, you need to make that kind of an impact at the international level.' 'As far as the all-rounder is concerned, he hasn't made that impact at the international level; we are only thinking about the potential. We are getting confused between the IPL performances and the international performances. That's a big difference,' he added. 'There is nothing wrong if you criticise a player. If you are playing cricket, you have to face it. It happened with Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar. They never made any feel that they were above the game. I am against the derogatory words used against Hardik,' Pathan defended himself.
