Migrant residing at Epping asylum seeker hotel is charged with sexual assault
A migrant residing at a hotel that has been the focus of a series of protests has been charged with alleged offences including sexual assault. Essex Police said Syrian national Mohammed Sharwarq, who resides at the Bell Hotel in Epping, was due to appear before Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on Wednesday. The 32-year-old has been charged with sexual assault, two counts of common assault and four of assault by beating which are said to have happened between July 25 and August 12. A series of protests have been held outside the Bell Hotel in recent weeks after another man, Hadush Gerberslasie Kebatu, was charged with sexual assault. The 38-year-old, who is accused of attempting to kiss a 14-year-old girl, denies the charges and is due to stand trial this month. Epping Forest District Council has applied for an interim High Court injunction in a bid to stop asylum seekers from being housed at the hotel. In a statement, Essex Police said: 'A man will appear in court today to face criminal charges after officers were called to the Bell Hotel on Epping High Road on Tuesday, August 12. 'A 32-year-old man was arrested and questioned. 'Mohammed Sharwarq, a Syrian national who resides at the Bell Hotel, Epping, has been charged with the following offences: two counts of common assault; four counts of assault by beating; one count of sexual assault on a male contrary to section 3 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003. 'The offences are alleged to have taken place between July 25 and August 12. 'He has been remanded in custody and was due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court today, Wednesday August 13. 'Officers are not currently seeking any other suspects in relation with this case.'

Driver who claimed his electric Jaguar I-Pace accelerated 'on its own' on the motorway appears in court accused of fraud
A motorist who claimed his luxury electric car accelerated 'on its own' on the motorway has made his first appearance in court charged with fraud. Nathan Owen, 32, from Prestatyn, North Wales, called police for assistance on March 6 last year to report his Jaguar I-Pace vehicle was speeding out of control and the brakes were not working. Officers scrambled to intercept the vehicle, which had travelled along the eastbound carriageways of the M57, M62 and M58 motorways. Patrols from Merseyside Police 's Matrix unit were called out in order to safely stop the vehicle on the eastbound carriageway of the motorway, ultimately bringing it to a halt between junction 11 for Birchwood, Warrington, and junction 12 at Eccles, The Liverpool Echo reported. On Wednesday, Owen attended Liverpool Magistrates' Court where he indicated not guilty pleas to dangerous driving, intentionally or recklessly causing a public nuisance and two counts of fraud. One charge of fraud meanwhile accuses Owen of falsely informing a car finance company, CA Auto Finance, that his Jaguar I-PACE was 'accelerating on its own', with its brakes also being 'unresponsive', in order to make a gain of more than £4,000. It is also said that he made the same claims to several national newspapers, with the intention of causing loss to the Jaguar company or exposing it to risk of loss. Prosecutor Renee Southern told the court that it was the Crown's case that the defendant had 'persistently and dishonestly' claimed the vehicle was defective. She said Owen wanted to 'get rid' of the vehicle and thus avoid further payments totalling £4,426 to the finance company. Police made manoeuvres to box the Jaguar in, which led to motorway closures and substantial delays, the court heard. Appearing in the dock wearing a black zip-up top and glasses and sporting short dark hair and a beard, he spoke to confirm his name, address and date of birth before pleading not guilty to all four counts. Owen, of The Grove, was released on unconditional bail to attend a further hearing at Liverpool Crown Court on September 10, when he is expected to enter formal pleas.

Driver hit girl then urinated on van as she lay in the road
A driver who crashed into a teenage girl before urinating on his van as she lay in the road has been disqualified from driving for 17 Thompson, 45, hit the 14-year-old girl in Meadow Lane, Westbury on 13 March. The court heard that after police arrived at the scene, another man claimed to have been then said he was desperate to go to the toilet and, despite the injured teen being just metres away, urinated against the passenger side of his men were arrested and the court was told Thompson twice failed to provide a breath specimen for analysis while in police custody. No further action was taken against the second man. 'Callous' Sgt Neil Bott, from Wiltshire Police, described the incident as incredibly traumatic for the victim and her mother, who was at the scene."Any collision with a vehicle can be traumatic, but to then have the driver be so incredibly callous and disrespectful by urinating in front of the victim while she was lying injured is hard to believe," he added."Thompson then tried to protest his innocence in custody before being shown clear footage that he had been driving the van." During his sentencing hearing, Thompson was ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £ must also complete a 60-day alcohol abstinence requirement and up to eight days of was told his 17-month driving disqualification would be reduced by 17 weeks if he completed a driving course.
