Migrant residing at Epping asylum seeker hotel is charged with sexual assault
Essex Police said Syrian national Mohammed Sharwarq, who resides at the Bell Hotel in Epping, was due to appear before Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
The 32-year-old has been charged with sexual assault, two counts of common assault and four of assault by beating which are said to have happened between July 25 and August 12.
A series of protests have been held outside the Bell Hotel in recent weeks after another man, Hadush Gerberslasie Kebatu, was charged with sexual assault.
The 38-year-old, who is accused of attempting to kiss a 14-year-old girl, denies the charges and is due to stand trial this month.
Epping Forest District Council has applied for an interim High Court injunction in a bid to stop asylum seekers from being housed at the hotel.
In a statement, Essex Police said: 'A man will appear in court today to face criminal charges after officers were called to the Bell Hotel on Epping High Road on Tuesday, August 12.
'A 32-year-old man was arrested and questioned.
'Mohammed Sharwarq, a Syrian national who resides at the Bell Hotel, Epping, has been charged with the following offences: two counts of common assault; four counts of assault by beating; one count of sexual assault on a male contrary to section 3 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
'The offences are alleged to have taken place between July 25 and August 12.
'He has been remanded in custody and was due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court today, Wednesday August 13.
'Officers are not currently seeking any other suspects in relation with this case.'

'The video was then circulated by the defendant to other people on social media. 'This sort of behaviour is inexcusable and has compounded the grief felt by Paul's family at this most distressing of times.' Another 17-year-old boy, from Bognor Regis, has been charged with manslaughter. He is scheduled to appear in court again on October 6 for a pre-trial preparation hearing. Paying tribute, Mr Lawrence's siblings, John and Shelley, said: 'Paul was the kindest man that would help anyone. 'He would light up the darkest of rooms with his smile and cheeky laugh. 'Our hearts are not only broken but they're totally ripped apart.' His daughters, Louise and Josephine, also released a statement through Sussex Police describing their father as 'full of happiness' and 'loved by all who knew him'. They said: 'He was a family man who devoted his life to his children and grandchildren, and he was immensely proud of everything they achieved. 'Paul was a true representation of what every man should be or should aspire to be. Kind, generous, and always laughing or smiling with the most reassuring smiley eyes. Man (20) accused of 14 counts counts of rape and sexual assault of man
A 20-year-old student has been charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual assault of another male in Dublin four years ago. The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was aged 16 and a juvenile at the time of the sexual abuse over a three month period in 2021. He appeared before Judge John Brennan at a late sitting of Dublin District Court. Detective Garda Liam Conway said the young man's replied 'No' when each charge was put to him. The court heard that the Director of Public Prosecutions has directed that the man would face 'trial on indictment'. That means, due to the nature of some of the charges, he will be tried in the Central Criminal Court. Detective Garda Conway confirmed that the accused was a minor when the alleged offences occured and there was no objection to bail provided he obeyed a series of conditions. Defence counsel Kevin McCrave consulted with the accused who did not address the court, before telling the judge that his client consented to those terms. Judge Brennan warned there would be consequences for breaching them and the barrister stressed that he would explain that to his client, who has yet indicate a plea. Bail was set at €750 and he was ordered to appear at the Children's Court in September to be served with a book of evidence and returned for trial to the Central Criminal Court. Legal aid was granted after the court heard the accused was a student, on social welfare and unemployed.
