Interior Minister schedules May 24 elections in South Lebanon and Nabatieh, adjusted for holiday
Interior and Municipalities Minister Ahmad Hajjar has signed a decision to call for municipal and elective council elections in the districts of South Lebanon and Nabatieh Governorates.
The elections, scheduled for Saturday, May 24, 2025, will determine members of the municipal and elective councils.
The date was adjusted from Sunday to Saturday due to the official holiday marking the Resistance and Liberation Day.
Additionally, Hajjar signed a decision regarding the submission of candidacy declarations for the municipal and elective elections in both the South and Nabatieh governorates.
The submission period will begin on Monday, May 28, 2025, and end at 24:00 on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
The financial boxes at the governorate centers, district offices, judicial records offices, and civil registry offices will remain open during official working hours throughout the candidacy submission period until 24:00 on the last submission day.

Hezbollah MP says meeting with President Aoun focused on sovereignty, occupation, and common ground
MP Mohammad Raad stated that Hezbollah and the bloc initiated a meeting between Loyalty to the Resistance and President Joseph Aoun to commemorate the anniversary of Resistance and Liberation Day. He noted that the two sides exchanged general views on the country's pressing priorities and challenges—chief among them safeguarding national sovereignty, ending the Israeli occupation, halting ongoing violations backed by some countries involved in the ceasefire agreement, rebuilding areas destroyed by Israeli attacks, ensuring stability, and revitalizing state institutions through upcoming elections. Raad stressed that there is broad common ground between them, which can be built upon. 'We don't feel bound by specific timelines, locations, tools, or methods to make use of this common ground, as long as things in Lebanon are progressing under the president's careful stewardship and his commitment to achieving these priorities,' he said. He added that there are no closed doors when it comes to dialogue with the president at any level.

Raad meets Salam, says 'stability' and arms to be discussed with Aoun
by Naharnet Newsdesk 04 June 2025, 16:51 A Hezbollah parliamentary delegation led by MP Mohammad Raad met with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam at the Grand Serail on Wednesday, following recent tensions with the premier over the issue of arms, the relation with Iran and the Resistance and Liberation Day. 'We are keen on permanent understanding and accord with him and with all components in the country,' Raad said after the meeting. 'The priority during this period is ending Israeli occupation, halting the daily attacks, freeing the captives and beginning the reconstruction process,' the lawmaker added. The issue of Hezbollah's arms 'should be discussed in an objective manner that preserves the country's interest and the choices of its sons in confronting any Israeli aggression that threatens its security,' Raad said. He added: 'The issue of stability and the right of the Lebanese to resist occupation is to be discussed with the president in an objective and gradual manner and we are not in a hurry.'
