Moroccan Gastronomy Celebrated in Addis Ababa
The evening treated guests, including members of the Ethiopian government and parliament, diplomats accredited in Addis Ababa, religious leaders and representatives of international organizations, to the flavors and multiple facets of the Kingdom's culinary art.
Speaking at the event, Morocco's ambassador to Ethiopia and Djibouti Nezha Alaoui M'Hammdi stressed that the evening, which brought to a close a gastronomic week organized by the embassy, was an opportunity for guests to discover Morocco's heritage, which reflects the country's cultural diversity.
Moroccan gastronomy draws its uniqueness from the fusion and blend of Berber, Arab, Andalusian and Mediterranean influences over centuries with other cultures, she said, noting that Ethiopian culinary traditions intersects with Morocco's flavorful cuisine.
Moroccan and Ethiopian cuisines can be considered among the oldest and most delicious worldwide, as well as the most varied in flavor and imbued with hospitality, the diplomat added.
For their part, guests underlined the importance of this event, which brought together communities from different backgrounds to share more than a simple culinary experience: to share traditions and a heritage rooted in time.

Rabat – Royal Air Maroc (RAM) received two new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft on Thursday as part of the carrier's fleet expansion plan. In a report today, Moroccan news outlet Le360 quoted Royal Air Maroc's head of the Prospective, Strategy and Fleet Department, as emphasizing the importance of the new fleet batch for the company. 'This is a big day for us,' Fadwa Mahamma said, adding that the two aircraft mark a 'significant acceleration in the expansion of our fleet, fully aligned with our company's ambitions supported by the State.' She revealed that Royal Air Maroc has been receiving 'nearly one aircraft every two weeks, meaning that by the end of the year, around ten aircraft will join our fleet.' Mehdi El Yaalaoui, RAM's Director of Strategy and Innovation, echoed Mahamma's remarks, noting that these planes will allow the company to renew its fleet and to improve the onboard experience for its customers. El Yaaloui said the fleet will also reduce its carbon footprint by 15%, citing next-generation engines. 'Each new delivery symbolizes our collective commitment to achieving the goals of our development plan and to being ready for major events like the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup, two key moments for our country and continent,' he added. In June, RAM's CEO Hamid Addou expressed frustration over Boeing's delays in submitting ordered aircraft. 'You have to offer your customers what they're paying for. And in the economy… You have to offer the kind of service they're expecting. So we need to invest in the product, and we are already doing it,' Addou told CNN. 'One feels frustrated when you have 15 to 18 months of late deliveries,' Addou said, but acknowledged that all executives and airlines face the same and that promises have been made and steps have been taken for things to evolve in the 'right direction.' Morocco Jet Off to Kenya for CHAN 2024
The Moroccan national team for locally-based players will fly out to Nairobi next Sunday, July 27, aboard a special flight, ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). Before departure, the Atlas Lions will play one final warm-up match behind closed doors against Burkina Faso this Thursday at 6pm, at the municipal stadium of Kenitra. Head coach Tarik Sektioui revealed his final squad list on July 23. Morocco have been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Kenya, Angola, Zambia, and DR Congo. The Moroccans will kick off their campaign on Sunday, August 3, against Angola at Nyayo Stadium. They'll then take on Kenya at the Moi International Sports Centre on August 10, before facing Zambia on August 14 at the same venue. Their final group stage clash will be on Sunday, August 17, against DR Congo – again at Nyayo Stadium. Marrakech – Morocco's passport has climbed to 67th place globally in the latest Henley Passport Index, marking its best performance in a decade. The new ranking represents a four-position jump from last year's 71st place, allowing Moroccan citizens visa-free access to 73 destinations worldwide. This achievement is Morocco's strongest showing since 2006, when the passport ranked 66th globally. Morocco now ranks 1st among all North African countries in passport mobility. Tunisia follows at 71st place, with Mauritania at 79th, Algeria at 81st, Egypt at 85th, and Libya trailing at 95th position. This regional advantage is attributed to Morocco's more active foreign policy and increased participation in international forums that promote mobility cooperation. In the broader Arab world, the United Arab Emirates maintains its dominant position with the 8th most powerful passport globally, offering access to 184 countries without visas. Qatar (47th), Kuwait (50th), Saudi Arabia (54th), and Bahrain (55th) round out the top five Arab countries. Globally, Singapore retains its crown as the world's most powerful passport with visa-free access to 193 destinations. Japan and South Korea share second place with 190 destinations each. A strong European contingent occupies the next positions, with seven EU countries – Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, and Spain – sharing third place with access to 189 destinations. A shifting global mobility landscape At the bottom of the rankings, Afghanistan holds the 99th position, allowing its citizens visa-free entry to only 25 countries. Syria (98th), Iraq (97th), and a three-way tie between Yemen, Somalia, and Pakistan (96th) complete the lowest-ranked passports. The latest index reveals shifting global mobility patterns. Traditional powers like the UK and US continue their decline, dropping to 6th and 10th place respectively. The US stands on the brink of exiting the top 10 for the first time in the index's 20-year history. Meanwhile, countries like the UAE and China have made remarkable progress, each climbing 34 places over the past decade. Christian H. Kaelin, creator of the passport index concept, notes that the latest rankings reveal 'an increasingly competitive landscape in global mobility.' He stressed that access 'is earned—and must be maintained—through active and strategic diplomacy.' The Henley Passport Index ranks the passports of 199 countries based on the number of visa-free destinations a passport holder can enjoy. It relies on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which is updated in real-time. A decade-long analysis shows a global trend toward increased openness and mobility.
