Not a mad man, I don't even drink Royal Challenge
New Delhi: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, on Thursday, refuted the rumours of him buying the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise, saying that he is not a mad man.
Speaking to ANI, Shivakumar said that he had offers to be part of the management, but he doesn't have time for this.'I am not a mad man. I'm just a member of the Karnataka Cricket Association from my younger days, that's all. I don't have time, though I had offers to be part of the management... Why do I need RCB? I don't even drink Royal Challenge,' the Karnataka Dy CM said.
On June 4, the stampede that occurred during celebrations outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Indian Premier League (IPL) victory celebrations claimed 11 lives. Following the Bengaluru stampede, the Karnataka Government on June 5 suspended top police officials at the Cubbon Park Police Station and formed a one-man commission under a retired High Court Judge to probe the incident.
Earlier in the day, Siddaramaiah dismissed the BJP's demand for his resignation over the Bengaluru stampede, accusing the party of 'doing politics in everything. 'Chief Minister Siddaramaiah questioned why the BJP had not demanded the resignation of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath when a stampede occurred during the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj earlier this year.'40-50 people died in a stampede at Kumbh Mela. Did they demand the chief minister's resignation then? A bridge collapsed on the day of the inauguration, and 140 people died. Did they demand the Prime Minister's resignation then?' Siddaramaiah asked while talking to reporters here.

MLC A.H. Vishwanath said there will be a change of guard in the State in November or December, and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will be replaced by either Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar or All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge. Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, Mr. Vishwanath said Mr. Siddaramaiah was on his way out, and there was no doubt about it. He responded to the statements of Mysuru district in-charge Minister H.C. Mahadevappa who stated that not only was the CM chair stable or safe but so was the person sitting on it. The State government's decision to conduct a fresh caste census came under criticism, and Mr. Vishwanath said that over ₹180 crore had been spent on the Kantharaj and Jaiprakash Hegde report but to no avail. He questioned the government's claim that the new survey would be completed in three months, and said that teachers were not free and hence it could not be conducted. The backward class communities feel cheated, he added. Mr. Vishwanath accused Mr. Siddaramaiah of making scapegoats of others for his follies and cited the recent stampede in Bengaluru. Though many senior officials advised against the IPL victory parade, the Chief Minister ignored their advice and went ahead with the event, said Mr. Vishwanath. The MLC questioned the need for Mr. Siddaramaiah to have so many 'advisors', and said the State exchequer was being squandered. There were no norms for the guarantee schemes, and they were being implemented without any yardstick, he said. More than ₹90,000 crore had been spent but there was nothing to show by way of development in the State, he added.

Congress has become 'fake news factory', alleges BJP
Hitting back at the Congress, the BJP on Saturday (June 14, 2025) said the opposition party has become a "fake news factory" after it attacked the Modi government for India abstaining from voting on the UN General Assembly resolution for a ceasefire in Gaza. BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari accused the Congress of spreading "half-truths" on the issue, saying India's abstention was not a deviation but a continuation of "past votes", based on "unwavering belief" in dialogue and diplomacy as the only sustainable path forward. "Congress, before unleashing theatrical outrage, should take a moment to read India's official Explanation of Vote at the UN on June 12," he wrote on X, posting a screenshot of the purported document. "The Congress and its intellectually dishonest ecosystem has become nothing but a fake news factory," he charged. The 193-member UN General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to adopt the resolution introduced by Spain that demanded an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire. India was among the 19 nations that abstained, while 12 countries voted against the resolution, which got 149 votes in favour. Reacting to the development, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said in a post on X, "It is now increasingly evident that our Foreign Policy is in shambles. Perhaps, PM Modi must now take a call on his EAM's repeated blunders and set some accountability." "Have we abandoned India's consistent stand advocating for a ceasefire, peace, and dialogue in the Middle East and West Asia?" he asked. Echoing similar sentiments, AICC general secretary, organisation K.C. Venugopal said India always stood for peace, justice, and human dignity and called on the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to explain what had changed in the last six months that led India from supporting a ceasefire to abstaining from the vote. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed her disappointment at India's stance at the UN, calling it a "tragic reversal" of the country's anti-colonial legacy. Mr. Bhandari accused the Congress of spreading "half-truths" and wrote on X, "Our abstention is not a deviation, but a continuation of past votes (A/RES/77/247 & A/RES/79/232), based on our unwavering belief in dialogue and diplomacy as the only sustainable path forward." India unequivocally condemned the loss of civilian lives and the deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and called for the protection of civilians, humanitarian access and the release of remaining hostages, he said. Mr. Bhandari said India also reaffirmed support for a negotiated "Two-State Solution'", with Palestine and Israel coexisting peacefully within secure, recognised borders". "India has consistently provided humanitarian assistance to Gaza, both bilaterally and via the UN," he added.

Congress protests ED action in Chhattisgarh's Sukma, burns effigies
RAIPUR: The Congress party on Saturday staged protests across all district headquarters in Chhattisgarh, burning effigies of the BJP government and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The protests were held to condemn the ED's attachment of the Congress office in Sukma district. Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee President Deepak Baij criticised the ED's action, stating the agency is acting as an "associate organisation" of the BJP. He made these remarks while addressing media persons on Saturday. Baij said the ED's move was taken at the behest of the central government and the BJP, despite the Congress providing all financial details for the construction of the Sukma office. He termed the action an "attack on democracy". The City District Congress Committee in Raipur also staged a protest at Rajiv Gandhi Chowk. Congress workers gathered, raising slogans against the BJP government and the ED. A brief scuffle occurred between party workers and the police during the effigy burning.
