New Jersey man exacts gruesome revenge on seagull who stole his kid's snack

New York Post19-07-2025
That's just not gonna fly.
A New Jersey man who decapitated a seagull that dared to steal a French fry from his daughter has been indicted on animal cruelty charges by a grand jury.
Franklin Ziegler and his daughter were on Surfside Pier at Morey's Piers & Beachfront Waterparks in North Wildwood during Independence Day week 2024 when the pesky seagull swiped some of the child's snack.

After taking revenge, Ziegler, 30, then carried the dead seabird around the amusement park before asking the staff if they could provide him with a trash bag.

Ziegler, of Cape May, allegedly became hostile with police and was charged with animal cruelty and resisting arrest.
'During the investigation, Zeigler was irate and uncooperative with officers on an unrelated investigation, which resulted in his arrest for Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest, both Disorderly Persons offenses,' the North Wildwood Police Department said in a Facebook post. LINK?
The Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918 makes it illegal to 'pursue, hunt, take, capture, kill, or sell' seagulls and other migratory birds.

Barry Fast, who has run Seagull Control Systems in New Rochelle for more than 20 years, says the seabirds can be fearless if they associate people with food.
'We deal with seagulls eating people's food all the time at outdoor dining restaurants,' Fast said.
'Seagulls even attack restaurant workers bringing trash bags to dumpsters.'

According to Fast, Seagull Control Systems receives two or three legitimate calls for help with seagull trouble a day. He says controlling seagull activity on boardwalks is a difficult job.
'The solutions that we have must mitigate seagull infestation without disrupting people on the boardwalk,' Fast said. 'Seagulls are flocking birds; they tend to colonize locations where they have a constant food source.'

French Authorities Investigate Streamer's Death After Months of Abuse

French authorities are investigating the death of Raphaël Graven, an internet personality who died on Monday during a broadcast on the livestreaming platform Kick, where he was routinely subjected to humiliation and abuse. The death of Mr. Graven, known online as Jean Pormanove, revived a debate about the role governments should play in regulating parts of the internet where harassment and violence can go unchecked. Clara Chappaz, a junior minister in France for artificial intelligence, on Wednesday described the violence that Mr. Graven endured as 'horrific.' She said a probe into the actions of the other streamers toward Mr. Graven was underway. 'Justice will carry out its work to advance this investigation and to clarify the tragic circumstances of Jean Pormanove's death,' she wrote. She added that platforms were legally required to remove illegal content and take action to protect users' safety. An autopsy took place on Thursday, French officials said. French police have interviewed the people present at the time of death and have seized equipment and videos from the address in Contes, a village north of Nice, where Mr. Graven was found dead, officials said. Mr. Graven had more than 500,000 followers on Kick, an Australian streaming platform that launched in 2022. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Drake & Adin Ross To Pay For French Streamer's Funeral After His 'Absolutely Horrific' Death

Source: Carmen Mandato / Getty Drake and controversial streamer Adin Ross are linking up once again to give back. This time, they're offering to pay for the funeral costs for Jean Pormanove, a French streamer whose real name is Raphaël Graven. The 46-year-old was found dead on Monday, August 18, while he was in the middle of a 10-day stream. Once Ross found out, he took to social media with a vengeance and promised to aid Pormanove's family. 'This is horrible and disgusting. Whoever was apart of this deserves to face severe consequences,' Ross wrote. 'I just spoke with Drake. Drake and I will be covering the funeral costs, this won't bring his life back, it's the least we can do. Prayers go out to Jean's family.' Ross' tweet implied that Pormanove's death was due to wrongdoing, but French newspaper Le Parisien has shut down the rumor and will conduct an investigation. We care about your data. See our privacy policy. 'At this stage, there is nothing suspicious, interviews are underway, and an autopsy will be performed,' the prosecutor's office in Nice wrote in a statement to the outlet. Le Parisien also said that hours before his death, a video of a lifeless man resembling him made the rounds on social media. According to People , his brother asked people not to share the video. 'I ask you all to respect his memory and not share the video of his last breath in his sleep,' wrote Graven in a translated post to his Instagram Stories. 'My brother, my sidekick, my partner, six years side by side, without ever letting go, I love you, my brother, and we will miss you terribly.' Pormanove racked up over 500,000 subscribers across all his platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, Twitch, and Kick. He was known for his extreme pranks and sleep deprivation videos, where other streamers would concoct wild ideas to keep him awake, like oil being poured on him and shot at with a paintball gun. According to France's junior minister for AI and digital technology, Clara Chappaz, authorities are aware of the humiliating skits he did for content and wrote on X that 'The death of Jean Pormanove and the violence he suffered are absolutely horrific.' Streaming platform Kick also released a statement regarding his death. 'Our priority is to protect creators and ensure a safer environment on Kick,' the company wrote on X. 'All co-streamers who participated in this live broadcast have been banned pending the ongoing investigation.' See social media's reaction to the death in the streaming community below. Outcry over French streamer's death on air as authorities probe allegations of abuse

PARIS (AP) — The death of a French streamer during an extended broadcast prompted soul-searching and controversy, as a government minister said he had been 'humiliated and mistreated for months' on air and a judicial investigation delves into alleged abuse. Raphaël Graven, 46, known as Jean Pormanove on social media, died Monday in southern France during a broadcast on the Kick livestreaming platform that had been running for more than 298 hours. French media reported the broadcast was interrupted soon after Pormanove's co-streamers found him unconscious and lying on a bed. The prosecutor in the southern French city of Nice, Damien Martinelli, said an autopsy was being carried out on Thursday to determine the causes of the death. A judicial investigation underway Pormanove's death came as a judicial investigation was already underway into alleged violence and humiliations committed against him, prompted by reports from French investigative website Mediapart about what it described as the 'online abuse business.' Mediapart said co-streamers were allegedly mistreating Pormanove in live broadcasts, sometimes encouraged by payments from viewers, to generate more subscriptions and money. The investigation opened in December is looking into 'deliberate violence against vulnerable persons' and 'spreading recordings of images related to offenses involving deliberate violations of physical integrity,' the Nice prosecutor's statement said. It did not specify why Pormanove could be considered vulnerable. The statement said two co-streamers allegedly involved in the case were briefly taken into custody in January but were released pending further investigation. In parallel, the Nice prosecutor said, investigators interviewed Pormanove and one of his co-streamers who both appeared to be victims of violence and humiliation. They 'strongly denied being victims of violence, stating that the events were staged in order to 'generate a buzz' and make money,' the statement said. Co-streamers banned from the platform Pormanove's death prompted strong reactions on social media as many users questioned the authorities' failure to act. Clara Chappaz, Minister of Digital Affairs, said on X that Pormanove's death was 'absolutely horrific' and she had contacted the platform's managers for an explanation. 'Jean Pormanove was humiliated and mistreated for months live on the Kick platform,' she said. Kick said all Pormanove's co-streamers who participated in the broadcast have been banned pending the outcome of the investigation. 'We are deeply saddened by the passing of Jean Pormanove and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and community,' Kick said in a statement released on X. 'We are committed to cooperating fully with the authorities in this process,' the statement said. 'We are undertaking a comprehensive review of our French-language content.' Over one million followers According to French media reports, Pormanove was used to take part to so-called 'marathon' events on air for an extended period of time, with incentives for viewers to subscribe or make donations. He accumulated over one million followers on several video platforms, including over 192,000 on Kick. An Australian company, Kick is a video streaming platform similar to Amazon's Twitch, but with a much more permissive moderation policy that allows gambling activities, sexually suggestive content or content involving humiliation or violence to be broadcast without automatic sanctions — attracting influencers banned from other platforms. 'All platforms have a legal responsibility to remove obvious illegal content of which they are aware,' Chappaz said. Mediapart reported that a few hours before he died, Pormanove was the victim of abuse as some co-streamers slapped him and punched him several times. Martinelli, the prosecutor, said investigators conducted several interviews with people who were present at the time of death and a large amount of material and video footage have also been seized.
