Vaishali museum with relic casket of Lord Buddha to be inaugurated by month-end
"Buddhist monks from 15 countries — China, Japan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal, Tibet, Myanmar, Malaysia, Bhutan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Mongolia, Laos, Bangladesh and Indonesia — will gather in Vaishali on the occasion," he said.
Constructed at a cost of Rs 550.48 crore on 72 acres, this stupa complex is being developed near the sacred Pushkarini (pond) and mud 'stupa'. The main attraction of this monument will be a relic casket of Lord Buddha, discovered during excavations from 1958-62, which will be placed on the first floor of the museum.
A statue of Lord Buddha crafted by artists from Odisha will be a distinctive feature.
"The Memorial Stupa is entirely made of stone, with 42,373 sandstone pieces from Bansi Paharpur in Rajasthan interlinked using tongue and groove technique. It is built with modern earthquake-resistant technologies to ensure its safety for thousands of years. Surrounding the stupa are lily ponds, attractive sculptures and beautiful landscaping," the official said.

The complex also includes a meditation and visitor centre, library, museum block, amphitheatre, cafeteria, solar power plant (500 kilowatts), parking and other facilities.
"This stupa will serve as a centre of reverence for Buddhist followers and place Vaishali prominently on the global tourism map. Along with promoting local employment, this monument will add a new chapter to the cultural and tourism development of Bihar," another official from building construction department said.
Earlier on April 4, CM Nitish Kumar inspected the construction of the Buddha Samyak Darshan-cum-Memorial Stupa, and instructed the officials to ensure swift completion of the project.
"Among all the relics of Lord Buddha found, the one discovered in Vaishali is the most authentic. Visitors will gain more insights into Lord Buddha's life. Pilgrims visiting Bodh Gaya and Rajgir will also visit Vaishaligarh. The museum will depict events from Buddha's life and aspects of Buddhism," Nitish had said on April 4 after inspecting the site.

'They live everywhere together': Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift reportedly share homes across the country as their love deepens
Despite their demanding careers, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce prioritized staying close (Getty Images) In late 2024, as Taylor Swift's Eras Tour wound down and NFL season ramped up, insiders revealed a surprising detail about her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce—despite both leading fast-paced, nomadic lives, the couple made it a point to stay physically close whenever possible. Nashville became the unofficial home for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce during NFL season A Page Six source at the time described their unusual setup: 'Taylor and Travis live fairly nomadic lives, and Taylor has home bases everywhere, but they live everywhere together.' While that may sound like a poetic way to describe celebrity romance, it actually offered rare insight into how the power couple navigated fame, distance, and constant travel. Though Swift owns multiple properties across the country—from New York penthouses to Beverly Hills estates—sources in 2024 suggested that Nashville quietly emerged as their central hub. 'It also looks like Taylor is going to make Nashville more of a home base than LA or NY since it's closer to Kansas City, and her mom, Andrea, loves [Nashville] too,' the insider shared. Given Swift's early ties to Music City and her mother's preference, it made sense both strategically and personally. Their long-distance workaround reportedly included bouncing between Kelce's Kansas City mansion, hotels, and Taylor's various homes—especially as her tour took her across continents. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 15 most beautiful women in the world Undo Swift's private jet, often criticized online, became their bridge between arenas and stadiums, stage lights and sidelines. Taylor Swift embraced her role as a WAG with team spirit—and teamwork By the end of 2024, observers noted how seamlessly Swift adapted to the high-profile world of NFL partnerships. One insider put it succinctly: 'I think she's adapted so well to WAG life because she truly understands what it's like to be part of a team—especially coming off Eras where she formed such a close connection with her band, dancers, singers and crew.' Their shared understanding of what it takes to support a team—on stage or on the field—seemed to fuel the relationship's success. Whether at Arrowhead or in the VIP tent at a stadium concert, Kelce and Swift weren't just showing up for each other—they were living life together, literally everywhere. Not many kanwariyas, cops reopen DME within an hour
Ghaziabad: Traffic cops in the city reopened the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME) on Monday, barely an hour after shutting down its entry and exit points. The closure, initially planned to facilitate kanwar pilgrims, particularly 'Dak Kanwariyas ', was lifted after authorities observed minimal pilgrim movement and emerging traffic bottlenecks. It was around 11.30am that the traffic cops blocked all entry and exit points of DME — Khoda, ABES College, Crossings Republik, Dasna, and Bhojpur, deploying two constables at each location. However, the expressway was reopened by 12.30pm after an assessment of the situation. "We observed very few kanwariyas on their vehicles in the DME section, while minor traffic congestion began developing at some entry and exit points. After analysing the situation, we decided to reopen the expressway," said Ziauddin Ahmad, ACP (traffic). "We wanted to ensure a safe passage for 'Dak Kanwariyas', who primarily use the DME while returning from Haridwar. Our priority was to prevent any law and order situation," Ahmad said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Top 15 Most Beautiful Women in the World Undo The ACP, however, didn't rule out future closures. "We will continue monitoring the presence of pilgrims on the DME. The entry and exit points might be closed again by tonight or Tuesday, with only essential services like ambulances being permitted on the Ghaziabad stretch," he added. The closure, which followed several changes in plans and missed deadlines of July 17 and 19, comes amid expectations of increased pilgrim movement ahead of Shivratri on July 23. Currently, light vehicles from Meerut are being diverted to Ghaziabad via the Hapur route and NH-9, while heavy vehicles, restricted since July 11, are being redirected from Ghazipur to NH-9 up to Dasna and then to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway towards Meerut. The annual kanwar yatra sees pilgrims utilising three main routes through Ghaziabad to reach Haridwar for collecting Ganga water. While traditional pilgrims mainly use the Pipeline Road from Loni Border to Niwari, 'Dak Kanwariyas' prefer the DME. A significant number also travel via NH-34 through GT Road, with these routes collectively covering 150km within Ghaziabad.

Commuters throng underground as surface transport goes haywire
1 2 3 4 Kolkata: Commuters on Monday preferred the underground route as transport above the ground went missing since morning, forcing many office-goers to take unsanctioned leave. The Metro was a saviour when buses, mostly hired for rallyists, were unavailable and app-cab services were erratic. Till 3 pm, the Blue Line, which is the city's transportation lifeline operating along the North-South axis, recorded a sharp spike with 386,033 commuters. Green Line 2, or East-West Metro's Esplanade-Howrah Maidan section, ferried 39,528 people till 3 pm. Howrah was the Green Line's most crowded station, earning Rs 3.1 lakh (cash) till 5.30 pm. "Compiling revenue generated from other means like smart card, UPI, and the Metro app, Howrah station earned around Rs 5 lakh till 5.30 pm," an official said. The passenger count for Green Line 1, or East-West Metro's Sector V-Sealdah section, was 29,501 till 3 pm. The less-used metro lines were more crowded than usual. Till 3 pm, the Orange (New Garia-Ruby) and Purple (Joka-Majerhat) lines recorded 3,276 and 3,430 passengers, respectively. Separate accesses were opened for smart card users for faster movement. As passengers were trying to squeeze in, a few trains were briefly held up at Esplanade and Chandni Chowk stations because the compartment doors could not be closed. RPF personnel were seen rushing in to help commuters board the trains. Escalators were turned off to prevent accidents. "It was like a local train journey. The compartments were packed with rally participants. I had to get down at Esplanade but could not. I went to Park Street instead and walked back," said Pritam Saha, a Lake Town resident who boarded a train at Belgachhia. Above the ground, the dearth of buses or any other means of commute gave daily travellers a harrowing time. "I waited for 20 minutes for a bus to Park Street, then decided to take the metro from Thakurpukur station to Majerhat where I waited for another 30 minutes for a bus. Joined three others around 10 am for a shared cab ride to Park Street that cost us Rs 600," rued Goutam Maji, a private firm employee. App cabs were cancelling at random. "At 8.30 am, at least four cab drivers cancelled rides to Esplanade," said Tanima Mondal, who was forced to opt for an app bike for twice the normal fare. Very few auto rickshaws were seen in the morning. Buses from both the northern fringes (Barasat, Rajarhat, New Town) and the south (Behala, Budge Budge, Amtala, Sonarpur, and Baruipur) weren't available since Sunday evening. According to Titu Saha of the City Suburban Bus Service and Tapan Banerjee of the Joint Council of Bus Syndicate, it was the highest rally requisition in recent years.
