Gordon aiming to end career on high with Hearts and Scotland at World Cup
Craig Gordon is aiming to end his illustrious career on a high by having a good season with Hearts and helping Scotland to the World Cup. The veteran goalkeeper, who will turn 43 in December, has signed on for another year at Tynecastle in a bid to help his boyhood club improve on a disappointing campaign. He also has his sights set on a swansong in North America where the World Cup will be held next summer and believes the current squad have enough to reach the biggest stage of all. The national team haven't qualified for the tournament since 1998, and Gordon believes it would mark the perfect end to a storied career. Hearts will take on newly promoted English Premier League side Sunderland to mark his testimonial year on July 26. Speaking about his decision to keep playing for another year, he said: 'As last season wore on, towards the end, when things started to calm down a bit and we were down to one game a week, the workload was still manageable. 'For most of the first part of the season, I thought that would be my last season, but as the season progressed I still felt good and decided I still had another year left in me. 'So, it was a good decision, I think. I am excited again to get back to pre-season and ready to go again. 'It wasn't a great season for anybody at the club, so there was always that in the background, but personally for me I didn't think it was too bad, I had some good moments throughout the season and I think not having that good last moment, to be able to go out on a high, I am still really motivated to get out there and do as best as I can and be the best goalkeeper I can be. 'So there was that, and with Scotland as well the World Cup is going to be decided over the next six games within four or five months of the season starting, so it's not that far away. 'That was all the reasons I needed to keep going and keep giving it my very best.' Gordon first signed for the Jambos in 1999 and made his professional debut while out on loan at Cowdenbeath as a teenager in 2001. In a career that has spanned 24 years, he has also played for Sunderland and Celtic, winning three Scottish Cups, five Premiership titles and five League Cups while helping the Hoops to a historic quadruple treble between 2017 and 2020. He has also earned 81 Scotland caps and insists he is motivated as ever for further success domestically and at international level. He said: 'I am motivated on both fronts. There have been a lot of changes at Hearts, and there's a new management team coming in. Also, we have six games with Scotland, and I believe in that squad. 'I think we can beat anybody on any given day, so we have got great ability there and the chance to get ourselves to a World Cup. 'It will be difficult, there are other good teams in the group, but I still think we have that opportunity and it's an exciting time at Hearts with the new manager and a host of new players. 'So there is a lot to be positive about on both fronts.' Report: Rangers' Chris Kreider signs off on trade to Ducks
June 12 - Chris Kreider agreed to waive his no-trade clause in a deal that, once finalized, will send the longest-tenured member of the Rangers to the Anaheim Ducks, the New York Post reported. Kreider, who first suited up for the Rangers in the 2012 NHL playoffs, gave the OK on the reported deal Thursday morning. The Ducks were on the forward's 15-team no-trade list. Multiple media reports said the Rangers will receive forward Carey Terrance and a mid-round draft pick from the Ducks for Kreider and another mid-round pick. Anaheim also will take on all of Kreider's $6.5 million cap hit over each of the next two seasons. Kreider, 34, is entering the sixth season of a seven-year, $45.5 million contract. The Massachusetts native is slated to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2027. Kreider and then-Rangers captain Jacob Trouba were made available on the trade market earlier this season following a league-wide memo from New York general manager Chris Drury. The Ducks then acquired Trouba on Dec. 6 for defenseman Urho Vaakanainen and a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. Kreider recorded just 30 points (22 goals, eight assists) in 68 games this season while nursing both back spasms and an illness. Earlier, he discussed his desire to stay in New York. "I mean, this is home for me," Kreider said in late April, per the New York Post. "This is the organization that gave me an opportunity to live out my dream. I've developed so many incredible relationships and grown up and spent so much time in this area. So, obviously, this is where I want to be and this is the group I want to help in whatever fashion and win hockey games." The franchise's third all-time leading goal scorer (326), Kreider also has 256 assists for 582 points in 883 career games since the Rangers selected him with the 19th overall pick of the 2009 NHL Draft. Terrance, 20, was selected by the Ducks in the second round of the 2023 NHL Draft. He recorded 39 points (20 goals, 19 assists) in 45 games this past season with the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League. --Field Level Media

Andy Robertson reveals talks over future but welcomes competition at Liverpool
Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson has held talks about his future but insists he welcomes the competition which looks set to arrive this summer in the shape of Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez. The 31-year-old Scotland captain is entering the final year of his contract and last season was something of a mixed bag in terms of his form. Advertisement Having seen long-time team-mate Trent Alexander-Arnold run down his deal in order to join Real Madrid, Robertson may face reduced playing time should the club's chase for the £45million-rated Cherries full-back be successful, as expected. Andy Robertson is entering the final year of his contract (John Walton/PA) But the Scot remains positive about his future and the challenge ahead. 'We have discussed it, of course we have. We've had good discussions with me and the club but what the future holds I am not sure,' Robertson told Sky Sports News about his contract. 'I need a rest after a long season and then I look forward to pre-season, that's all my focus is, I can't look too far ahead. I never have done that so I am not going to start doing that now. Advertisement 'I know the position I am in and I have only got a year left and a lot is getting spoken about and getting said but my full focus is on being a dad for the next couple of weeks and enjoying that time with the kids. 'Then I will try to come back in the best possible shape for pre-season and then we'll see what the future holds when these decisions come.' On the potential arrival of Kerkez, a 21-year-old Hungary international, he added: 'The club have identified certain positions where they want to get new blood in, it looks like players we're linked to are all younger players and they are all exciting players as well. 'When you play for a big club like Liverpool you expect challenges, you expect competition and I have always faced that, everyone here has faced that in their own positions and I expect nothing less. Advertisement 'I want the club to be ambitious, they are doing that and wherever we fit into that, if we're happy with our role, we stay and we do it and if not then I am sure there will be a few out the door as well but that's the nature of football.'
